Brown -- Harriet Z. Brown, age 84, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 27, 2003. She was preceded in death by her husband, James B. Brown, grandson, Landon, and brothers, Jack and Tom Zalaha. Harriet is survived by her daughter, Susan Hixenbaugh; granddaughter, Alysia; grandson, James and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, their families, and other family and friends who loved and will miss her. Harriet loved to travel. She was a longtime travel agent at Globetrotters and Atlas Travel, and she was also an avid golfer. A memorial service will be held at St. Johns Cathedral, 4th and Silver SW. in Albuquerque, on Wednesday, September 3, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. A reception will follow. Fonte -- Mary Thelma Fonte, 79, passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2003 in Albuquerque after a lengthy illness. She is preceded in death and now rests with the angels in the company of her lifelong soul mate and true love, Alfred Michele Fonte, who passed away in 1979. Mary was born in Glimmer, TX on January 28, 1924 and was married to Alfred on October 19, 1946. The couple then set about raising a family in Hicksville, NY before relocating to Tampa, Florida in the early 1960s. After her husband's death, she relocated to Albuquerque. Mary is survived by sons, John William of Albuquerque, Thomas Austin of Littleton, MA and Peter James of San Diego, CA; daughters, Barbara Anne Flannery and Constance Theresa of Tampa, FL and Dolores Margaret of Jacksonville, NC; grandchildren, Rachael Marie Fonte of San Diego, CA, Heather Marie Crosster of Tampa, Thomas Alfred and Matthew Christopher Vorees of Cherryvile, NC, Christopher Lee and Daniel Scott Hillyer of Jacksonville, NC and Michella Marie Fonte of Moreno Valley, CA. Interment will be announced at a later date. A memorial fund will be entered in her name for Breast Cancer survivors.

Medley -- James Lawrence Medley, 87, a resident of Belen, NM, passed away on August 30, 2003 in UNM Hospital after an 8-month battle with Leukemia. Jim was born in Magdalena, NM on August 25, 1916, and grew up working on the family ranches. He was a member of the first graduating class of Grants High School. He worked for the Santa Fe Railroad for 40 years, retiring as a freight conductor. He lived in several towns along the Santa Fe line in New Mexico and Arizona. Jim is survived by his present wife, Vivian; and his previous wife, Josephine Smith Medley; five daughters, JoAnne Medley of Phoenix, AZ, Mary and her husband, David Beaumont of Albuquerque, NM, Theresa and her husband, Woody Hunter of Bosque Farms, NM, Helena and her husband, Michael Sanchez of Penrose, CO and Julie and her husband, Wally Seis of Colorado Springs, CO; four sons, James and his wife, Kathy of Bosque Farms, Tony and his wife, Kathy of Albuquerque, Billy of Belen, and Dan and his wife, Karen of Los Lunas; 12 grandchildren, Patricia and her husband, Michael Lamb, Michael Medley and his wife, Jolyn, Jennifer and her husbad, Cesar Rivera, Meghan Miller, Bodie James Medley, Steven Beaumont, Erin Beaumont, Brian Medley, Kristina, Medly, Erik Medley, Rozlyn and her husband, Johari Ginocchio; six great-grandchildren, Mikelle Medley, Jared Medley, Justin Medley, Matthew James Medley, Miqueas Rivera, and Braedon Ginocchio. The family would like to acknowledge Dr. Natalie Marshall for her caring treatment of our husband and father; Tina Bibiano of Presbyterian Home Care for her loving care at his home during his illness; the Doctors at UNMH; Nurse Veronica Amesquita for her loving care of him and support of the family during the stay at UNMH. Melvin -- James Shelby Melvin, 84, a resident of Albuquerque since 1964, died Tuesday, August 26, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jo Melvin of Albuquerque; son, Thomas L. Melvin and wife, Rochelle of Albuquerque, NM; daughter, Nancy Ulibarri and husband, Theodore of Loveland, CO; five grandchildren, Laura Harrington and husband, Kevin of Riverton WY; Joyce Jarman and husband, Lance of Springfield, MO; Mindy McIntyre and husband, James of Albuquerque; Michelle Dearholt and husband, Jimmy of Albuquerque; Cassandra Melvin of Albuquerque; and seven great-grandchildren. James was preceded in death by a son, Paul Melvin and daughter, Cecilia Melvin. He retired from the United States Air Force after 23 years of service, and worked 15 years for Sears. James was a member of St. Mark's on the Mesa Episcopal Church. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, 3:00 p.m., at St. Marks on the Mesa Episcopal Church, 431 Richmond Pl. Thomas -- James P. Thomas, 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 31, 2003. He was born in Indiana to Ross and Bertha Thomas. The family moved to Pagosa Springs, CO in 1920, then to Albuquerque in 1927. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty; his sons, Kenny and Ross; his daughters, Patty and Ann; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His son, Wayla, preceded him in death. "Mr. T" worked at Albuquerque National Bank for 49 years. He ran the UNM football stadium sellers for 60 years. He served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. Daddy was a "gentle" man who helped many people in his life. His kindness, compassion and positive outlook on life will live on in all of us.
