Ward -- Malcolm Ward, 88, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, passed away early Saturday morning, August 30, 2003. He is survived by Elaine Ward, his wife of 25 years; his sons, Ronald Ward and wife, Carmen of Albuquerque, Dwight Ward and wife, Chris of Georgia and Ralph"Babe" Ward and wife, Gina of California; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Wanda Celeste Ward, his first wife and the mother of his children; two of his sons, Larry and Jerry; and his two brothers, Charles and Ralph. His father was a carpenter, and he followed him into the trade. He worked at Sandia National Laboratories for 22 years as a carpenter until his retirement in 1973. After his retirement, he worked on a few projects including the VLA outside Magdalena and the new Albuquerque High School, but he retired for good in 1977. He enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting, and in the early years the family spent most of their summers in the mountains of New Mexico. In 1978, he had the good fortune to meet and marry Elaine Atwood. Elaine filled the void left by the loss of his first wife, and they were deeply committed to each other. Elaine also enjoyed camping and they spent many happy times traveling the country in their fifth wheel trailer, including three extended trips to Alaska. His lineage led him to the carpenter trade, but with his skills and abilities he could have been a machinist, tool and die maker, or any other skilled craftsman. He never hesitated to disassemble any malfunctioning"thing" so he could determine what was wrong and replace the defective components. Malcolm was a man of many talents and he will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He will be cremated and interred at Sunset Memorial Park. As per his wishes, no services will be held. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Alzheimers Association, 8100 Mountain Road NE, 87110 or the Blinded Veterans Association, 4715 Cedarbrook Court, 87111.
