HARROD -- Ira E. Harrod, Jr., (Joe) 87, a resident of Albuquerque, NM for the past year, died on Tuesday, September 21, 2004. Harrod was born in Kansas City, MO but soon moved to Burlington, VT where he lived through high school. In 1935, he began his over 30-year association with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, NY with his enrollment in industrial engineering. He received his B.S. in 1939 and later an M.S. and worked as an engineer in Albany, NY until 1941. Joe joined the Marines in 1941 and was a veteran of World War II. He served in the Pacific theater seeing action in Bougainville, Guam, and Iwo Jima. He retired from the Marines with the rank of major in 1945. After the war, he returned to engineering, this time in Philadelphia. This was short lived in that two years later he was back at his alma mater joining the staff of the management engineering department in 1947. He remained at RPI until his retirement in 1979. From teaching, he was appointed Assistant Dean of Students in 1952, and Dean of Students in 1957. He was the first Director of Academic Advising in 1976. He received many awards for his work including the Albert Fox Demers Medal, Dean Emeritus of Students in 1984. He was honored for his contribution to the high standards of RPI and his devotion to the improvement of the quality of life at the Institute. Upon retirement, he and his wife Betty moved to Maine where they remained until 2003. During his retirement in Maine, Joe was active in his church, St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Falmouth, as well as in his community. He earned the admiration of his peers by exemplifying the Yankee virtues of his Vermont upbringing. He was an avid hockey enthusiast, loved swimming and sailing and enjoyed other hobbies such as woodworking, history and antiques. He was married for 64 years and devoted to his wife, Betty. Joe is survived by his son, Peter E. Harrod and wife, Anna; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Harrod Clark, James G. Harrod, Rachael Conti, Daniel E. Harrod, and Gabriela Rose Harrod; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty B. Harrod; and eldest son, James C. Harrod. Services will take place on Friday, September 24, 2004, 10:00 a.m., at Gate of Heaven Chapel, 7999 Wyoming Blvd., NE, with the Very Reverend Alan Dennis, officiating. MCGEHEE (GONZALEZ-VALDEZ) -- Victoria Sue McGehee Born May 14, 1968 Will be laid to rest September 25, 2004 A memorial service for Victoria will be held at San Pedro Cemetery (HWY 344 N. of Edgewood) on September 25 at 11:00 a.m. Victoria was born in Albuquerque, NM; she moved with her family to Carlsbad, NM in 1974 where she participated in choir throughout her school years. Victoria was preceded in death by her father, Jessie James McGehee; uncles, David and Gerald Chavez; grandfather, Victor Chavez; grandfather and grandmother, Jessie and Margaret McGehee; aunt, Lorene Pennington; uncle, Carl McGehee; and brother, Terry James McGehee. Victoria is survived by her mother, Susan A. McGehee; grandmother, Stella Chavez; sisters, Jessica Satter and husband, Jared, Sandra Whobrey and husband, Wayne; nieces, Julia and Mackenzie Satter, Ellie McGehee; nephews, Bryan and Christopher Juarez; great-nephew, Rory Juarez; aunts, Nadine Chavez, Patsy Garcia, Janice Chavez, and Gweneth Rogers; uncles, Lenny Chavez, Luis Chavez, Felipe Garcia, and Fidencio Francia; entire loving family of great-aunts, -uncles, and cousins.

MCKINNEY -- Oliver James McKinney Sr. was born on June 15, 1910 in Huberton, West Virginia, the only child to the late Oscar James and Grace McKinney. His early education was received in Columbus and Mt. Vernon, Ohio where he extinguished himself as an outstanding minority student. He was the first Adventist Afro-American to be inducted into Sigma Kappa Psi. Oliver was given a four year scholarship to Howard University in Washington, D.C. His education was shortened when he met and married Lucy Jeannette Howard on September 7, 1935 in the home of Dr. Eva B. Dykes. Lucy preceded him in death on September 2, 2002. Their marriage continued for 66 years, 11 months, 26 days. He believed in the educational system of the Adventist church. He sent his children to such schools as Washington Union, South Lancaster and Sandia View Academies, as well as, Oakwood, Atlantic, and Southwestern Union Colleges. Oliver moved his family to Albuquerque, NM, in 1957 to seek a better life for them. During the past 48 years he has seen the city grow, a church established from his home, his 10 children grow up and get married, enjoyed 17 grandchildren, and enjoyed 11 great-grandchildren. Oliver has served the Bethesda SDA Church as Sabbath School teacher, head Elder and church Treasurer. Oliver was a very devoted, loving, supporting husband and a caring father who instructed his children to develop qualities that Christ wants His children to have-faith, love virtue, self-control, brotherly kindness, piety, and fortitude. He may have been short in stature, but he was a giant in doing the Lord's bidding, and nurturing his family. He leaves nine to cherish his memory: Oscar (Bertha), Charles Sr. (Jaquelyn), Oliver Jr. (Bonnie), Lucy Parlor, John (Gloria), Elizabeth, Samuel (Brenda), Daniel (deceased), Lavinia Young (Thomas "Chico"), Jerome; two brothers-in-law Warrick Hill (Christine), Willis Hill (Joyce); one sister-in-law, S. Margaret Hill; 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and a host of church friends and family. Services will be Sunday, September 26, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethesda S. D. A. Church, 1800 Arno SE.

WATSON -- Jessie Aliene Watson, 82, a long time resident of Albuquerque, died Tuesday, September 21, 2004. She is survived by her daughters, Bessie Lee Wyatt and husband, Albert of Gibsonville, NC; Jenny Lynne Morton and husband, Paul of Rio Rancho, NM; son, James Nelson Watson and wife, Sara Nell of Ozark, AL; daughter, Teri Aliene Helton and husband, Tim of Camarillo, CA; sisters, Mary E. Ullock of Bremerton, WA and Bessie E. Burris of Twenty Nine Palms, CA; 14 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren. She was married 56 years when her husband, James L. Watson, passed away in May 2004. Mrs. Watson was active in the North Hills Mobile Home Park and in Sombra de Monte Christian Church. She loved life and particularly enjoyed music, dancing, and cards. Mrs. Watson especially loved corresponding with her friends. She maintained many longtime friendships. Service will be held Saturday, September 25, 2004, 10:00 a.m. at French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. ZAMORA -- Mr. Ignacio (Nash) Zamora, 61, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on September 22, 2004. Mr. Zamora is the beloved husband of Mrs. Nell New-Zamora. Mr. Zamora is also survived by his two sons, Stephen Zamora and James Zamora; two stepsons, Bill New and Tom New; one brother, Rudy Zamora and Rosie; one sister, Anna Zamora; two grandchildren, Stepanie and Andrew; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mr. Zamora was a Veteran of the Unites States Army and served in Vietnam. A Committal Service with full Military Honors by the Army National Guard will be Friday morning at 9:30 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM. CUNNINGHAM -- Alice M. Cunningham, 85, was born September 2, 1919 and reborn to eternal life on September 21, 2004. She is survived by her children, Kathleen Barker and husband, Daniel of Panama City, FL, Patricia Smith and her husband, Morris of Ontario, OR, James Cunningham and wife, Kathy, Ann Foreman and husband, Jack and Jean Barr all of Albuquerque; 24 loving grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren who will miss her dearly; and sister, Florence and husband Jack of Athens, TX. Alice was born in Ellingson, SD, daughter of Louise Arpan and Aloysius Johnson. One of seven children, she attended St. Johns School of Nursing in Rapid City, SD and joined the Army Nurse Corps serving through WWII. She was a nurse in Albuquerque for many years, working at St. Joseph Hospital, VA Hospital, Girl's Welfare and Turquoise Lodge when she retired. Alice was a member of Holy Child Parish in Tijeras, NM for many years and most recently was ministered to by members of Risen Savior Catholic Community. Rosary will be recited Thursday, September 23, 2004, 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Mass will be celebrated Friday, September 24, 2004, 10:00 a.m. at Risen Savior Catholic Community with Fr. Richard Olona, Celebrant. Friends may visit at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, from 6:00 p.m. until time of the Rosary. Interment will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. BONNER -- Michael Allen Bonner, 50, died Saturday, September 18, 2004 in Raton, NM. He is survived by his wife, Crystal Leigh Bonner of Maxwell, NM; daughter, Victoria Nikole Lambert and husband, Tony and grandchildren, Autumn Jade Lambert and Jesse Morgan Lambert, all of Aurora, CO; brother, Chris Bonner and sister-in-law, Chan Roark of Dothan, AL; sister, Kathryn Bonner of Albuquerque, NM; father and mother-in-law, Norman and Frances Hummon of DeSoto, TX; brother-in-law, Alan Hummon of Austin, TX; niece, Leigh Bonner of New York, NY; nephews, Max Bonner of Tuscaloosa, AL and Matthew Hummon of Avon, CO; and special cousins, Martha Hill of Corrales, NM and Elizabeth McIntosh of Albuquerque, NM. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Bonner and Marie Faith Bonner; and brother, Randy Bonner. Mike was born September 3, 1954 in Albuquerque. He lived much of his life in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. Mike retired as Assistant Chief of Police, Irving, TX in 2001 and moved to Maxwell, NM where he enjoyed the farm and ranch lifestyle. He earned a degree in Ranch Management from Texas Christian University prior to his retirement.
