Klein -- Virginia C. Klein, age 76, passed away at Anna Kaseman Hospital on Sunday, April 18, 1999. She was a 22 year resident of Albuquerque, where she worked for the Federal Government. She was preceded in death by her sister, Harriett Harris; and is survived by her brother-in-law, Byron Harris; her sisters-in-law, Emma Jean Klein and Myrtle Klein; as well as her loving nieces, Janice Cantello, Kristine Klein, Sally Klein, Joanne Schilling and Rita Myers; and her nephews, Byron Harris, Chris Harris and Tom Klein. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, April 21, 11:00 a.m., at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 9500 Constitution NE, with Pastor Gerald White officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to All Faiths Receiving Home, or to St. Paul United Methodist Church. Sunrise Society of New Mexico is serving the family of Miss Klein.

Martin -- Robert"Bob" L. Martin Sr., 76, died Sunday, April 18, 1999. He is survived by his wife, Velma McCabe Martin of the family home; daughters, Clara June Jacobson and husband, Richard of Billings, MT, Angela Rose Wrenn of Daytona Beach, FL, and Julie Bencoe and husband, Michael of Albuquerque; son, Robert L. Martin Jr. of Albuquerque; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sister-in-law, Genie Martin Sessum; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his parents, Amos E. and Sophia"Peggy" Mitchell Martin; and brother, Donald A. Martin. He graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1940 and from the University of New Mexico in 1948 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Mr. Martin served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1943-1946. He accepted employment with Texaco Oil Company and later became owner and manager of the Texaco Service Station at 2100 East Central Avenue until 1959. Mr. Martin worked as a wholesale distributor for Texaco in Mountainair, Tucumcari, and Pratt, KS, returning to Albuquerque in 1972. Services will be held Friday, 10:30 a.m., at Netherwood Park Church of Christ, I-40 and San Mateo NE, with Wayne Sharp officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Park. Abercrombie -- Anna Abercrombie, 95, a resident of Albuquerque since 1975, died Thursday, April 15, 1999. She is survived by daughter, Norma Almetta Sams Shiverdecker of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Connie Blair, Gary Shiverdecker and Pamela Rhiger; great-grandchildren, Kathleen Spencer Blair, Karen Blair, Jessica Lynn Rhiger, and John Rhiger. She married Fred W. Abercrombie December 15, 1982 at Academy Baptist Church. Services will be held Monday, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating. Coch -- Paul W. Coch, 74, passed away Saturday, April 17, 1999 after an extended battle with COPD. He was born in Claridge, PA on May 7, 1924. Mr. Coch served in the US Army from 1942 to 1963 and was employed in F&A at KAFB from 1963 to 1981. He was a member of Netherwood Park Church of Christ. Mr. Coch is survived by his wife, Emma Mae; three daughters, Shellie Brandon, Paula Coch, and Julia Holloman and husband, Roger; seven grandchildren, Tabitha, Jared and Lacee Brandon, Lindsay, Garrett, and Paul Andrew Holloman, and John William Coch. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Ginger. Services will be held Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Wayne Sharp and George Carman officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Otis Kelly, Kenneth Hinkle, Ralph Ardery, Fred Roberts, Wilburn Walker, James Adams, Carl Johnston, and Wayne Rorie. Gariss -- Ray C. Gariss, 67, a resident of Albuquerque for 42 years, died Saturday, April 17, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Vinita Gariss of the family home; daughters, Anita Gariss and Tom DeRochie of Albuquerque and Bonita Price and husband, Dan of El Paso, TX; sons, Gene Gariss and wife, Toni, R.C. Gariss and Scott Gariss and wife, Anne, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Smoky Gariss, Jennifer Gariss of Albuquerque, Monty and wife, Bobby Gariss, Shannon Gariss, Shawn Gariss of Belen, Heather Price and Zach Price of El Paso, TX; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Imojean Davis and Isabelle Sherron, both of Missouri; brother, Robert Gariss and wife, Fontella of Missouri. Shelden -- Alvah Elijah Shelden, 86, died Friday, April 16, 1999 in Albuquerque. Stevens -- Betty Stevens peacefully passed into the arms of the Lord at home on April 15,1999, surrounded by her loving family. Betty was born April 5, 1916 in Greeley, Colorado, the youngest of six children of Sarah Frances and William Carson Gilbert. She graduated from Stephens College, then continued her education at the University of Illinois, where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1938. She married her high school sweetheart, Don Stevens, in Greeley, Colorado on October 2, 1938. During the early years of her marriage, they resided in Denver, Colorado; Champaign-Urbana, Illinois; and Austin, Texas. In 1948, when Don left his teaching position at the University of Texas, they moved to Albuquerque, where Don joined in partnership with Gordon Ferguson in the architectural firm later to become Ferguson, Stevens, Mallory and Pearl. As a devoted mother, Betty spent countless years as a Scout leader, roommother, and in PTA. She served on the boards of AAUW, Visiting Nurses and Community Concert, and was active in Civic Symphony and Community Chest. She also held many offices and enjoyed special friendships through PEO, Collectors and Old Glass Clubs. She was a member of St. Mark's-on-the-Mesa Episcopal Church, where she served faithfully on the altar guild and as wedding coordinator for many years....taking great pride in the beautiful church designed by her husband. Betty was the most loving, devoted, thoughtful, kind and generous wife, mother, grandmother and friends. An inspiration to all in her valiant fight against pain and illness, she will always be remembered and greatly missed by all whose lives she touched and enriched. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Don, whose"privilege it was" to unselfishly and tenderly care for her during her lengthy health problems; by their five children, Nancy Comprelli and husband, Frank of Morage, CA, Mary Gadeken and husband, Arlan of Kennewick, WA, Phil Stevens and wife, Lynda of Albuquerque, Gail Turner and husband, Harry of Oak Harbor, WA, and Mark Stevens of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Karen Snook and husband, David, Cathy and Cindy Comprelli, Cheryl Cuillier and husband, David, Lisa Gadeken, Lynne Evans and husband, Shane, Tracy, Shelley and Stephanie Turner, Jennifer Sanford and husband, Jeff; and step-grandchildren, Jamie and Greg Stevens; great-grandchildren, Paul and Lauren Cuillier, Evan Sanford; and step-granddaughter, Alexa Stevens; brother, Bill Gilbert and wife, Marion; sister, Virginia Saale; in-laws, Rod and Nan Stevens, Becky Gilbert and Fran Gilbert; and a multitude of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at St. Mark's-on-the-Mesa Episcopal Church (431 Richmond NE, Albuquerque) on Saturday, April 24, at 2:00 p.m. Internment arrangements made by Sunrise Society. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Albuquerque Christian Children's Home (5700 Winter Haven NW, Albuquerque, NM 87120)...for which a special fund has been created in Betty's honor, for the purpose of providing cultural enrichment for the children. The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation and thanks to the many special friends, neighbors, and Rev. Jud Wagg who provided encouragement, prayers, and countless acts of kindness, and for the tender loving care and support provided by Lovelace Hospice and numerous other medical providers.

Towne -- Lt. Col. Maurice H. Towne Jr., (U.S.A.R.-Ret.), 81, a resident of Albuquerque since 1965, passed away Tuesday, April 13, 1999. He is survived by his sons, Maurice H. Towne III and Michael R. Towne, both of Albuquerque. He was an accomplished and distinguished CIC career officer. He served in a wide range of sensitive capacities, and on special assignments in the South Pacific during WWII. As a gifted linguist, he went on to serve with the Turkish Brigade in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He completed his military career with tours of duty in Alaska, at the Pentagon, and finally as Commanding Officer of the 901st Intelligence Detachment, then headquartered at what is now Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque. He retired from active duty in 1966. As a civilian, he worked with the E.G.&G. Corporation in Albuquerque as Chief of Security and Safety Officer before accepting a position as Senior Buyer and Chief of Security with Ross Aviation in 1976. He retired in 1992. He was an active and passionate outdoorsman, faithful friend, and cherished companion. As a man, he was a devoted father, teacher, and a distinguished officer and gentleman. For his friends, his passing leaves great emptiness, but his memory leaves us with profound respect and admiration. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, 6:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Chaplain First Lt. Henry D. McCain officiating. Aragon -- Erlinda M. Aragon, age 70, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, April 16, 1999. She is survived by her three sons, Dennis Aragon, Andrew Aragon, Anthony Aragon and wife, Loretta, all of Albuquerque; one granddaughter, Michelle Aragon; one sister, Emma Alderete of Albuquerque; one brother, Joe Mirabal and wife, Lena of Albuquerque. She is also survived by two aunts; six nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Aurelia Mirabal. She was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation will be held Sunday, April 18, 1999, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE. A Rosary will be recited Sunday, 7:00 p.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
