ARRIOLA, REYNALDO NEVAREZ Age 57, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 26, 2013. He was born in Albuquerque, NM on June 16, 1956, to Guillermo "Willie" and Mary (Valdez) Arriola. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother who enjoyed spending time with his family. Ray was a softball coach for Bernalillo for 14 years. He also officiated basketball, volleyball, and softball under NMAA for 23 years. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Arriola, and a brother, Edward "Eddie" Arriola. Reynaldo is survived by wife of 33 years, Mary Lou (Madrid) Arriola of Placitas, NM; children, Reynaldo "Ray" Arriola and wife, Vicky, of Placitas, NM, Adrian Arriola and wife, Tarah, of Placitas, NM, and Alicia Arriola, of Placitas, NM; grandchildren, Julian Arriola, Andres Arriola, Autumn Gachupin, Estephan Arriola, and Jenasie Arriola; father, Willie Arriola, of Placitas, NM; siblings, Lorraine Chavez and husband, Richard, of Placitas, NM, Viola Jaramillo and husband, Floyd, of Bernalillo, NM, Enadine Barnes and husband, Randy, of Placitas, NM, Renee Arriola of Placitas, NM, and Guillermo Arriola of Placitas, NM; Mother-in-law, Helen Madrid; in-laws, Lucy and Phil Medina, Charlie and Alice Madrid, Margie and Tommy Sisneros, Ana and Stan Gabaldon, Maggie and Rick Chavez, Francis Madrid, Christine Madrid and Andrew Madrid; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends who mourn his passing. BOYD, LEELAND (LEE) Age 62, a resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2013. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Celia Boyd. He is survived by his sister, Louise Sutherland and husband, Kent; brothers, Lester Boyd and wife, Kathy; David Boyd and wife, Ruth; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Leeland was a proud veteran who served honorably in the U.S. Army with a tour in Vietnam. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Therese Catholic Church, 300 Mildred NW, on Wednesday, October 2, at 9:00 a.m., Father Vincent Chavez, presider. Interment of the cremains will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with a Committal Service and Military Honors at 12:45 p.m.

BROWN, THEODORE FAY (TED) age 72, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died on the morning of Saturday, September 21, 2013 to be with his family and friends gone before, after a long battle with Acute Leukemia and Multiple Myeloma. We will miss his spirit, sense of humor, intelligence and knack for finding interesting projects; he was happy in that challenge. He was a spiritual and loving man, who was generous and very giving. Ted was introduced to Highway Construction with his father's business, Brown Construction, as a young man. Ted received a Business Degree from Baylor College, and then off to service in the Army. Ted served as a First Lieutenant during the Vietnam War. Upon his return, he left his father's business to start his own. Ted ran his highway and bridge construction company for 44 years here in New Mexico. Ted built many of the roads and bridges you drive on in this state. Ted held Licenses in AZ, CA, CO, NM, NV, TX, UT, for Highway Construction and in NM he held Building, Mechanical, Electrical, Well-drilling, and every type of road or bridge construction license. Ted served as the President of Associated General Contractors just as his father had done. Ted Served on the Board of Directors for Mountain States Insurance for several years. Ted was a religious man, and was a deacon at Hoffmantown Church, which he considered to be one of the highlights of his life. Whenever Ted was asked "what do you do for a living?", he simply replied "I'm a ditch digger". Loving father, he is survived by his two sons, Alan Staehlin and Dave Staehlin; brother, James Brown; and cousin, Walter Brown. He had many cousins, nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He is preceded in death by his father, Theodore R. Brown; mother, Lucy R. Brown; brother, Charles F. Brown; and sister, Eleanor Rucker. A Memorial Service will be at held Friday, October 4, 2013, 10:00 a.m., at Hoffmantown Church, 8888 Harper Drive NE. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. CLARY, PATSIE "PAT" E. Age 76, Born in Mississippi, but a resident of Albuquerque for many years, died on Wednesday, September 25, 2013, surrounded by her family and friends, after a battle with lung cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents James and Verna Dansby, her daughter Elayne Rosaire, and a few grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her dog Princess, her companion-Best Friend of the last 8 years; two brothers; three sisters; four children and their spouses Shelly and Ron Armstrong; Ellen Seymore and Jackie Garner; Donnetta Woodard; Rocky and Linda Clary and Veronica and Eric Lovato, 16 Grandchildren; 27+ great-grandchildren and many other family and friends. Her day started and ended with a glass of Lipton Tea and a cigarette. She loved crosswords-word search; fishing; camping and watching Law and Order. Her hobbies were collecting brass, cookbooks, pictures of family and friends. Always a very compassionate, caring and loving woman who always had a smile on her face. She believed and taught us that you could do anything you put your mind to. We were never to give up and everyone deserves a second chance, sometimes three or four. For the Holidays her home was always open to anyone that didn't have a place to go, we will continued that tradition. She worked in several different fields and wasn't afraid to try anything and worked hard all her life.The viewing will be held Monday September 30, 2013 1:00-1:30pm at Direct Funeral Services, 2919 4th St NW Albuquerque, NM. CORDOVA, VALERIE ANN Valerie Ann Cordova moved on to eternal life in the Kingdom of Heaven with our Lord Jesus Christ on September 25, 2013. She was born in Albuquerque, NM on April 11, 1963 to Rosella Cordova and Manuel T. Cordova. She was preceded in death by her loving father, Manuel Teodoro (Ted) Cordova. She is survived by her mother; Rosella Cordova, brother; Tom Cordova and wife Cindi, sisters; Susan Lopez and husband Tim, Denise Mello and husband Spencer, nephews and nieces; Carlos Cordova, Ben Cordova and wife Caley, Victor Cordova and fiance Courtney Harmer, Seth Mello, Lillian Mello and Christopher Lopez, and her beloved cat Mikey. Pallbearers will be her nephews and niece, whom she loved dearly: Carlos Cordova, Ben Cordova, Victor Cordova, Seth Mello, Lillian Mello, and Christopher Lopez. Valerie was a graduate of Valley High School and went on to attend Mesa Community College and the Phoenix Institute of Technology. She was a loyal employee with Federal Express for 26 years. She was an active core member of the St. Therese Parish Life Teen group and a loved member of the parish. She was a kind, loving, compassionate, and generous, daughter, sister, Aunt, and friend. Valerie's life celebration will begin with a Rosary on Monday, September 30th at 7:00pm at The Shrine of the Little Flower St. Therese of the Infant Jesus Catholic Church (3424 Fourth St. NW) A service will be held at the same location on Tuesday, Oct 1st at 10:00am, followed by a committal service at Mt. DORATO, MADELEINE Madeleine, age 81, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Friday, September 27, 2013. She is survived by her son, Chris and wife, Karen; son, Alex and wife, Kathleen; daughters, Sylvia and Veronica; her beloved grandchildren, Amber, Jeff, Shannon, Brandon, Bryce, Zachary, Tatiana, Alessandra, Serena, Sophie, Lily, Gabrielle and Skye; and her brothers and sisters. Madeleine was preceded in death by her husband Peter. Madeleine was born in France and moved to New York in 1955 to work as an au pere. She met her husband, Peter, at a church dance in New York City, and the two were married three months later. Peter and Madeleine were married for 54 years. They lived in New York, Colorado, and eventually settled in New Mexico. Madeleine was a talented seamstress. She loved to sing, and was a member of the University Chorus for over 30 years. She also sang in the chorus at the Aquinas Newman Center, where she was an active parishioner since 1976. Madeleine loved children, and was a surrogate mother and grandmother to countless numbers of children. She worked and taught French to the children at Sweetheart daycare up until she passed away. Madeleine was best known for her kind and gentle spirit. She was a friend to all she met and was known by everyone in her neighborhood. Rosary will be recited Tuesday, October 1, 2013, 7:00 pm at FRENCH - University, with visitation one hour prior from 6:00-7:00 pm. Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 2, 2013, 10:00 am at Aquinas Newman Center, 1815 Las Lomas Rd NE with entombment to follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. KURLAND, PIERRE November 9, 1957 September 19, 2013 It is with great sorrow that we announce the loss of our beloved husband, father, brother and friend, Pierre Kurland. Born and raised in New York City, he met his wife Susan in Albuquerque, and raised his children Rebecca, Jonathan, and Jessica in Los Angeles. We cherish the memories of Pierre's reassuring demeanor, boundless generosity, quirky humor and contagious laughter. MANDEL, BARBARA OPAL Our Precious Mom, Grandma, Great Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend, quietly passed away on Monday evening, September 23, 2013. Opal was born to Adolphus Lewis Maedgen and Lily Belle Reynolds on November 22, 1919 in Voss, Texas and grew up in Valera, Texas and Ashland, Kansas. She graduated from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Oklahoma in 1943 and taught high school Home Economics in Ashland, Kansas before moving to Cleveland, Ohio. Opal married Fred P. Mandel on August 23, 1955. She is survived by four children, Barbara Bluhm, Cindy Speegle and husband Steve, Mark, Danny; two grandchildren Evan Speegle, Tracy Martin and husband Keith; and two great- granddaughters, Mackenzie and Jamie Martin. A heartfelt gratitude to Mesilla Valley Hospice and the wonderful staff of The Heritage Assisted Living Center in Las Cruces, where Barbara (the name she preferred after she married) lived for the last seven years. She will be honored, remembered, loved and cherished forever.
