PULLEN, RICHARD LEE ALBUQUERQUE. Richard Lee Pullen, Sr., 76, of Albuquerque died September 20, 2013. Richard was born April 13, 1937, in Los Angeles, California to B.W. Pullen and Helen Marie Pullen. He attended schools in Los Angeles and was well-known for his talented athletic abilities. He decided that he wanted to serve his country and entered the United States Army in 1954. He received a Good Conduct Medal of Honor in 1955 and a National Defense Service Medal in 1956. Two of the fondest memories he had of his early life was the time he served in the military and the close relationship that he and his mother shared. He married Marie Theresa Mulholland, his first wife, in 1957 while they both were in the Army. They had two children, Richard Jr. in 1958 and Ronald in 1962. He married his second wife, Joyce Marie Briggs in 1964. They had two children, Ryan in 1968 and Renee in 1972. He enjoyed being a long-haul truck driver and was proud that he logged more than 3 million miles in his career. He loved sports, especially football, baseball and basketball. He never met a stranger and was kind to everyone. He would often say, "Do the right thing". He grew in knowledge and wisdom through the trials and tribulations that life brings. Richard's application of the principles in Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) was a shining example of how much he cared for people. He served as a mentor to many people in AA. Richard surrendered his life to the Lord Jesus Christ as a small boy. God revealed to his mind how much He loved him and that being "saved" was (is) about the finished work of the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross. He had a profound revelation one night as he was driving across the country in his "big rig" truck: "I'm saved because I have faith in what Jesus is doing for me from the cross. It's not about being good or bad". This revelation from God brought Richard a brand new sense of freedom and joy. He would often say that "church" is everyday and frequently shared his testimony and close relationship that he and the Lord Jesus Christ shared with others. He would say, "It's about Jesus" and lovingly share the scripture: "For it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith, and this is not of yourselves. It is the gift of God, not of works should anyone boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9). He was at peace with his mortality. He knew that his next conscious awareness after he closed his eyes and took his last breath would be in the eternal light of Jesus Christ. He was an active member of the Bob George ministry, "People to People". He is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Helen and granddaughter, Julia. He loved his family dearly and had a special place in his heart for each "one" of them. He is survived by his brother, Bill; children, Richard, Jr., Ronald, Ryan and Renee; step-children Robert, Scott and Denise; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A Memorial service will be held on September 30, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Daniels Family Funeral Service Carlisle Chapel, Albuquerque. Richard's family welcomes his friends to celebrate his life. Honorary pallbearers are David Ortega of Albuquerque, Shari Pullen of San Angelo, Mark Rowh of Amarillo, Candida Pullen of Albuquerque and Bill (William) Pullen of Lompoc, California.
