APODACA, JENNIE Age 89, born on 5/19/23 and passed away peacefully on 5/12/13 with her daughters and grandchildren by her side. She was preceded in death by her first husband Frank G Armijo, son Frank Armijo Jr and grandson Francisco Rael. She is survived by her husband Tomas Apodaca; two daughters Josephine Armijo, Virginia Velasquez and husband Frank; step-daughter Linda Salazar; six grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren; nine great-great- grandchildren; and two close cousins Adela and Florella of Colorado Springs. We would like to thank the staff at Skies Healthcare for the care of our mother for the last year and a half. CHAVEZ, DOMINGO Age 84, passed away on May 11, 2013 after a short illness. He was raised in Bosque, NM but lived in Albuquerque since 1949. He was preceded in death by his first wife Victoriana Chavez, daughter Diane LaJeunesse and step-daughter Veronica Vigil. He is survived by his wife Lucy; sons Mark Chavez and Greg Chavez; daughters Jane Chavez and Denise Garcia; and step-son Larry Vigil. A Catholic Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at 9.00am at St. Joseph's on the Rio Grande. Burial to follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 3.00pm.

COOK, DEVIN TOMAS Age 19, of Corrales, NM, died at home on Thursday, May 9, 2013. He was born February 15, 1994 in Fairbanks, Alaska and was the son of Joseph and Nella Cook. He attended schools in Fairbanks, Pocatello (Idaho), Corrales, and Albuquerque. He graduated from Cibola High School in 2012. Tomas was a loving, compassionate young man with an engaging smile, mischievous humor, warm hug, and powerful sense of social justice that led him to always look out for the underdog. He loved the outdoors, animals, muscle cars, fireworks, sci-fi and adventure books, gaming, and was an accomplished snowboarder, hunter, cook, tinker, and especially fisherman. Tomas is survived by his parents; his sister Lucia of Baltimore; brother Felipe of Corrales; brother Chris Nelson of Fairbanks; and brother Matthew Schroeder of Oklahoma. He also leaves his biological grandparents, Dan and Deb Nelson and great-grandmother Betty Hartley of Fairbanks; maternal grandparents, Nell and Phillip Sanchez of Santa Fe; paternal grandmother, Judy Cook of Silver City; biological mother Brandy Wallen of Mesa, Arizona; biological father Anthony Nelson of Arizona; and many, many caring aunts, uncles, cousins and loving friends from Uruguay to Finland to Fairbanks. A celebration of Tomas' life will be held on Friday (17 May) at 6:00 pm at the east side of Elena Gallegos Open Space. COOPER, CONNIE Age 69, passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2013 following a three year battle with ALS. She is survived by her children, Michael J, Stephen D Cooper, family and friends. Connie was a kind, compassionate person and will be terribly missed by everyone that loved and knew her. DALTON, DAKOTA JAMES age 25, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, born May 3, 1988, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2013. Dakota was a graduate of Rio Grande High School, Class of 2006 and graduated cum laude from the University of New Mexico in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences with a concentration in Nuclear Medicine. He worked in both Presbyterian and Lovelace hospitals. He enjoyed skateboarding and often rode his bicycle to school or work. A photography class in high school may well be what led to his work in nuclear medicine imaging. DODGE, BEVERLY A (BAUER) Born August 12, 1929 in Salida, Colorado, relocated to Albuquerque in 1943 where she was active in Job's Daughters (passed Honored queen), AAUW and Soroptimist. The family relocated to San Diego in 1972 where she continued her activities with AAUW. She passed away on April 8, 2013 in Chula Vista, California. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert G. Dodge and her son Kenneth A. Dodge. She is survived by her daughters, Sandra (Lance) Trask of Mesquite, Texas and Eileen Buchan of Chula Vista, California; stepmother Pauline Bauer (Albuquerque); brothers, Richard Bauer (Albuquerque) and William Bauer (Albuquerque); sister, Rozanne (Alan) Tuffnell (Albuquerque); grandson, Ivan (Mary) Elsa (Chula Vista, California); great- grandchildren, Faust and Lilith Elsa; and several nieces and nephews. FAJARDO, ERMA Age 75, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 10, 2013 in Socorro, NM. She was born in La Joya, NM on July 6, 1937, to Juan T. and Cecilia (Armijo) Peralta. Erma grew up in La Joya and graduated from La Joya High School in 1956. She moved to Socorro in the late 1950's and has been a resident for over 50 years. Erma enjoyed taking care of her cats and her chickens. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers, Florentino Peralta, and Fidel Peralta. Erma is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Eugene Fajardo of Socorro, NM; beloved brothers, Pete Peralta and his wife, Mary, and Procopio Peralta; beloved sister, Maria Vigil; and numerous nieces and nephews. The Holy Rosary will be recited on Friday, May 17, 2013 at 8:30 am at San Miguel Catholic Church, 403 El Camino Real, Socorro, NM 87801. GROFF, WENDELL H. Too soon you have left us, but earthly pains and sorrows no longer trouble you. Friday, May 10, 2013, Wendell succumbed to a very short illness at the age of 72. His memory will be on his loved ones minds and in their hearts until we depart to join him. A resident of Albuquerque, Wendell and his brother, Richard, were second generation lumber yard owners, inheriting, and expanding Groff Lumber Co. from their parents. Surviving Wendell are his brother; his life partner, Alice; a dear Uncle in Albuquerque and an Aunt in Kentucky; sisters-in law; nieces; nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; cousins and their families; and close dear friends. GUZMAN, LUIS E. Age 62, a resident of Albuquerque since 1995, previously of El Paso, TX went home to The Lord on Wednesday, May 8, 2013. HEITZLER, CHARLES F. Age 97, a resident of New Mexico since 1949, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2013. He was born in Danville, Virginia, son of Ernest and Emma Heitzler. Charles was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army Medical Corps as M/Sgt. He was retired from Butler Paper Company and a member of St. Joseph's on the Rio Grande Catholic Church. Charles will be remembered in mass at St. Joseph's and interred at the National Cemetery. He is survived by his loving wife, Gretchen Knott Heitzler of Albuquerque; daughters, Marianne Wright and husband Ivan of Albuquerque, Barbara Schwartz and husband Ed of Wyndham, ME; grandchildren, Meredith Parks of San Antonio, TX, Betsy Schwartz of Seattle, WA, Ben Schwartz of West Newton, MA; and great- grandchildren, Chase, Emily and Bea. JOHNSON, GARY A. A resident of Moriarty, NM, passed away on January 4, 2013 at the age of 69. He is survived by his mother, Lauretta Dickey; son Roland Johnson; sister, Laurel Boutwell (Tom) & family; brother Craig M. JONES, ARTHUR E. Arthur passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2013, after a yearlong fight with cancer. At 94 years old, he was far too young to leave us. Arthur was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Margaret. He is survived by his children, Randi Walker, Priscilla Jones, Barbara Ranville, Philip Jones, and Suzanne Jones; two grandchildren, Max and Mara Aussendorf; sons-in-law, Jerry Walker, Paul Aussendorf, Matt Ranville and Timothy Malone; brother, Clifton Jones; and sister, Veda Brock. Arthur was born in Wild Cherry, Arkansas, but lived most of his life in New Mexico. As a member of the NM National Guard, his unit was ordered to active duty after Pearl Harbor. He served throughout WWII with the 804th Tank Destroyer Battalion in North Africa and Italy. After the war, he earned a B.A. degree from the University of New Mexico and went to work for the newly formed Sandia National Labs. After 35 years, he retired to take many road trips throughout the western US, writing simple stories about what he observed. He loved his family, the mountains, and apple pie. The family wishes to thank the Presbyterian Hospice staff and the Kaseman Oncology Group for their exemplary care over the last several months. KING, DAVID W. David passed away on May 12, 2013. Mr. King was an attorney who practiced for over thirty years in Albuquerque with Threet and King Law firm. He was very involved in politics and helped Pete Domenici run for office. Mr. King was born in Minden, Nebraska and grew up in Mexico, Missouri and Medicine Lodge, Kansas, where he was known as "Ward". He attended law school at the University of Texas in Austin. Mr. King was a kind and loving man who adored his wife of 54 years, Carol King (who is deceased). He enjoyed his family and loved playing with his children and grandchildren. He had a terrific sense of humor and relished telling stories and jokes. He enjoyed gardening, politics, reading, history and sports. David is survived by his eldest daughter, Liz Cavin; his other daughter, Caroline Cossin; his son-in-law, Chris Cossin, his two grandchildren Christopher and Cate Cossin; his son David H. King, his daughter-in-law, Angel King and his four grandsons, William, Andrew, Sam and Harrison King; his brother Lyle King and family; his brother John King and family; and his sister-in-law Georgeanne King and her family. He is also survived by numerous friends and colleagues. LEWIS, SAMUEL R. AND VIOLA R. Samuel Robert Lewis, age 87, and Viola Rosalie Lewis, age 82, passed peacefully on May 11, 2013 in Cedar Crest/Albuquerque, NM. They are now eternally joined in the sight of God. Samuel and Viola were married 65 years ago on February 8, 1948, in Huntington Sta., NY. Samuel served in the US Navy Submarine Service during WWII. He was a lifetime member of V.F.W. Nathan Hale Post #1469, and served as Post Commander and County Commander. Samuel was a well-known and successful general contractor on Long Island, NY. Viola served in the Ladies Auxiliary of the same post. She was a wonderful homemaker and loving mother raising their seven children. After she raised her children, she went on to have a successful business career. They are survived by Madeline Glenn, (Viola's sister); Samuel, Jr. and wife, Dot, Lorelei Blake and husband, Ben, Valerie Fickes and husband, Gary, Nicky and wife, Dixie, Stephen and wife, Lynda, Neil and wife, Laurel (deceased), and Kevin and wife, Donna; thirteen grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren. MARTIN, JOSEPH READ Loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, age 88, passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2013. Mr. Martin had lived the past 26 years in Corrales, NM, having moved from Fairfax, VA after living there 30 years. He was born on November 23, 1924 to Irvin and Josephine (Read) Martin of Washington. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from Georgetown University and his Master's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland. Mr. Martin married the love of his life, Marcella Mickiewicz, in 1960, whom he met while they both served in the US Navy. He retired after 23 years of service from the US Navy as a Lieutenant Commander in 1964. He then began a new career with Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) in Washington, D.C. His hobbies included antique gun collecting; making, buying and trading military figurines; collecting books and antique cars. Mr. Martin is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Marcella M. Martin, of Corrales, NM; daughters, Jacqueline "Jackie" Lackmeyer and husband, Gregory, of Thousand Oaks, CA, and Wendy Wiley and husband, James, of Houston, TX; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Cecelia McGotty. MONTOYA, GLORIA M. A lifelong resident of Bernalillo, NM; beloved mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and niece, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2013 to unite with her family in heaven. She was 66. Gloria enjoyed working on her yard, embroidering, walking around the Bosque and spending time with her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Filia Gutierrez; and brother, Pete Gutierrez. She leaves behind her only daughter, Tammy Tsabetsaye and husband Erick; her pride and joy, her granddaughters, Taylor and Olivia, all whom lived with her; her only sister, Angie Mora and husband David; sister-in-law, Dolores Gutierrez; nieces and nephews, Katherine (Matthew), Elizabeth (Albert), Anthony (Mandi), Kristina (David); three great-nephews; four great-nieces; and one great-great-nephew. SANCHEZ, BARBARA JEAN (TAFOYA) December 11, 1954 - May 13, 2013 A lady of many talents and a devoted mother and wife. Among her many accomplishments, during her life Barbara was a guitar teacher, a disc jockey, and a worship leader. She was highly involved in many school productions for her daughters, Melissa and Vanessa. Of great importance to her was her valuable association with Olive Tree Fellowship and the many women's ministries there in which she participated, as well as orchestrating each year's Sukkot Festival. Barbara also enjoyed camping, the ocean, and attending her husband's ball games. Barbara is missed & mourned by her husband of 32 years, Fred Sanchez; her two daughters, Vanessa Sanchez and Melissa Sanchez; her sisters, Pearline (Tafoya) MacKaron and Yvonne Tafoya; her brother, Harry Tafoya; and countless family members and friends whose lives she touched. Barbara will be buried on May 15, 2013, at Sunset Memorial Park on Menaul and Edith at 3:00pm. Her interment will be followed by a memorial dinner and gathering at Olive Tree Fellowship, located at 2621 Cagua Dr. NE, at 4:00pm.

SCOTT, BRUCE ERWIN was born September 11, 1941 in Washington, D.C. to George Erwin and Dorothy (Webb) Scott. He passed away May 9, 2013 in Yukon, OK. Bruce received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Management from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, IL. He furthered his education with a Master's Degree in Accounting from the University of Albuquerque in Albuquerque, NM. While serving in the U.S. Army, Bruce received two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star, and a Silver Star which was awarded for saving a Vietnam village with an orphanage from the N. Vietnamese attack. He was an advisor to a General due to his ability to speak fluent Vietnamese. He served three tours with the Special Forces in Vietnam and received a ribbon for Heroism awarded by S. Vietnam. Bruce is survived by his wife, Betty J. Smith; children, Paul Lee Scott and Shane Len Scott; grandchildren, Jerrica Baker, Sydney Baker, Lucas Baker and Makenzie Scott and Christopher, Colin and Logan Smith, and Steven and Nicole Smith; and great-granddaughter, Olivia Jaymes Owens. He was preceded in death by his parents; and infant son, Kevin Bruce Scott. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 15, 2013 in the Yanda & Son Funeral Home chapel.
