BEAN -- DELORES "DEE" TAFOYA Age 71, a resident of Albuquerque and formerly of Belen, NM died July 15, 2011. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, the Rev. David V. Bean on April 9, 1996. Also by her parents, Joe and Mary Cleotilde Tafoya; her sister, Irene Padilla; and her brothers, Raymond, Louis, Jose, and Orlando, who died at infancy. She is survived by a son, Gary Sanchez of Tome; a daughter, Annette of Albuquerque; her stepchildren, Steve Bean and wife, Anita of Albuquerque, Kevin Bean and wife, Susan of Albuquerque, and Bryan Bean of Placitas; grandchildren, Sharada and Anjali Bean, Benjamin and Rachael Bean, and Rebecca Rich, all of Albuquerque; one sister, Rose Andrews and husband, Kenneth of Belen; one brother, Danny and wife, Angie of Belen; her best friend, Barbara Spess and husband, Rick of Cleveland, OK. Also surviving are many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends. She was a 1959 graduate of Belen High School and enjoyed serving on the committee for class reunions. She moved to Albuquerque in 1965 and worked as a waitress and bartender, and also managed some of Albuquerque's finest restaurants. She married David Bean on June 17, 1974 in Las Vegas, NV. They moved to Cleveland, OK where he served as Pastor of Cleveland's First Presbyterian Church for 17 years. While in Cleveland, Delores was employed as manager of the Cleveland Area Chamber of Commerce for six years and was vital to the community's growth and beautification until health problems forced her resignation in 1986. She was honored with Citizen of the Year award for her many contributions to the community that included, President of the Hospital Auxiliary and Cleveland Newcomers Club, and Vice President of the Cleveland Community Theatre. She was also involved in many organizations including: Oklahoma Chamber of Commerce Executives, a Board Member of Oklahoma Green Country, East Central Private Industry Council, and Pawnee County Workshop. She was a member of The Triangle Heritage Museum, Business and Professional Women, and the Lake Keytone Association. She also coordinated the Portable Meals Program and implemented the exercise program at the Cleveland Nursing Home. She loved doing volunteer work but most of all she loved being a minister's wife and the work and the rewards that came with it. Delores was an active member of the La Mesa Presbyterian Church, the Alliance for the Mentally Ill, was a spokes person for the Organ Donor Program, and Persons with Disabilities. She also taught Spanish classes and loved teaching Spanish bible classes. She was an author and writer of two books. She loved having tea parties and celebrations for her neighbors at La Vida Buena where she lived for 18 years. A service celebrating her joyful union with her Lord will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2011, at La Mesa Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Trey Hammond officiating. Interment will be at The Belen Catholic Cemetery in Belen, NM. Delores's organs were donated and cremation has taken place. BRANDT -- WILLIAM E. Age 50, died Sunday, July 17, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Karen Lofgren Brandt; children, Lauren and Erica Brandt; parents, Maralynn and Jerry Lorenc; sister, Juliann Brandt; grandmother, Mary June Matz; and uncle, Wayne Brandt and wife, Myra. Mr. Brandt was a graduate of Jupiter High School, Jupiter, FL, and received his Bachelor's degree from Cornell College, Mt. Vernon, IA. Mr. Brandt and his family have lived in Albuquerque for the past 20 years. Bill was a devoted and loving husband, father, son, and brother and will be deeply missed. CONNELLEY -- JACK B. "SKIP" Age 87, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Mari Jo Connelley; children, Priscilla M. Romer and husband, Rich, Paul E. Connelley and Kelly Lee Freeman and husband, John, Karla Gutierrez and husband, Mike, daughter-in-law, Virginia Sena, Maria Johnson and partner, Heather, Edward Johnson; grandchildren, Kevin, Tim, Katie, Shannon, Cindy, Michael, Jack, Thomas, Christopher, David, Mannie and Jamie; great-grandchildren, Gracie, Tucker, Marcelo, Miana, Emilio, Jasmine, Renee, and Devon and Quinton; and sister, Darlene Rose and husband, Dwight. COPELAND -- BARBARA EDWARDS Age 76, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 17, 2011. Barbara was raised in Chicago and moved to Albuquerque in 1957. She raised her two daughters and one son and worked in banking for almost 30 years. She is survived by husband, A.E. (Al) Copeland, who remains in the family home where he receives his care. Also surviving her are daughters, Barbara Baker (John) and Carol Edwards; brother, Larry Winters (Eileen); sister, Florence Winters; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; step-daughter, Debbie Chambless (Jim); step-son, Gary Copeland; one step-grandson; and two daughters-in-law. She was preceded in death by her son, William Edwards III, on November 4, 2010 at age 49 and most of his organs were suitable for transplant. We would encourage people to signup to be organ donors. Barbara had been receiving care since Mother's Day in the Presbyterian Hospice Respite Unit and in her daughter Barbara's home. CUNEO -- ALAN Age 79, a resident of Albuquerque since 1967, passed away on Friday, July 15, 2011. Alan is a U.S. Army veteran having served in Germany. He was an avid golfer, 4H leader and part-time farmer. He retired from PNM in 1997 and volunteered for Meals on Wheels, the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center and the Family Advocacy Department of the ABQ Police Department. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Geraldine Creaghe Cuneo; his parents, Andrew and Margaret Cuneo; brother, Ryan Cuneo; nephew, John Schroeder and niece Patricia Cuneo. FORTENBURY -- JAMES EDWARD Passed away July 14, 2011 at the age of 82. He was born in 1928 to Olosis Fortenbury and Florence Mott Fortenbury, in Neosho Missouri. He was a World War II Veteran who faithfully served our Nation from October 25,1946 to April 7, 1948. He will be laid to rest on Wednesday July 20, 2011 at 3:00 pm (Mountain time), at the Santa Fe National Cemetery, just north of Santa Fe, NM. He was preceded in death by his father and mother; brothers Lenard, Charles, and Lee; and sisters Louise, Dolly, and Deloris. GARCIA -- TOM C. Age 78, of Albuquerque joined our Lord on July 16, 2011 surrounded by close family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Jean, and his children; Michael (Helen), Tom (Molly) Jim, John (Monica), Steve, Sally (John) and Cyndi (David). Tom was blessed with ten grandchildren: Jennifer, Lisa, Brandon, Jessy,0 Tarah, Jacob, Sterling, Thomas, Paris, and David, and two great-grandchildren: McKenna and Alex. MELILLO -- EMMA LOUELLA Age 56, departed this earth on the wings of angels on July 16, 2011. She was born in Tucson, AZ on February 5, 1955. She was the youngest child of Margaret and Peter Melillo, deceased. She is survived by her loving husband, Terry Strope, and her step-daughter, Theresa (Emery) Walker. Emma loved canning, cooking, gardening, and her cats, Ted & Leo. Most of all, she loved her sister, Marci (Greg) of Lakewood CO; and her brothers, Peter of Jackson Heights, NY, and David (Jean) of Tucson, AZ. She was very fond of two nieces, Annie of Oakton, VA, and Julie of New York City, NY. Emma was recently employed by the Social Security Administration and she had worked for MASH, an advocacy organization for the homeless and under-insured. She was a member of the Riverside Church of Christ in Albuquerque. She touched so many lives with her smile, love, advocacy and kindness. MERRITT -- EDWARD BRUCE Age 81, of Moriarty, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2011. He was preceded in death by his parents, Verda and Roman Merritt; daughter, Glenda Sue Merritt; sister, Ronna Lee Apodaca and husband Max. Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, LaVon Merritt; one sister, Carolyn Belanus; sons, Mark and wife Rosalie, and Glenn; granddaughter, Michelle Knudsen and husband Alan; twin great-granddaughters, Miya and Kira; grandson Phillip Merritt and wife Becky, two great-grandsons Iden and Gage, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a licensed embalmer, working for French Fitzgerald Funeral Home. Bruce was an electronic tech, retiring from IBM in 1986. He was also an avid ham radio operator for 60 years. Bruce was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will truly be missed. RIOS -- KATHRYN M. (WILKINS) Age 22, of Amherst, NH and Albuquerque, NM, died Saturday, July 9th of complications of Lupus while studying Sustainable Development in Nicaragua. She was the daughter of Tom and Sally Wilkins of Amherst, and the wife of Luis A. Rios, an Iraq War Veteran from Texas. Kathy, who had played field hockey and lacrosse at Souhegan High School, was a determined and passionate young woman who refused to let her health prevent her from living her life to the fullest. She was a Latin American Studies and Economics major at the University of New Mexico. Kathy loved the Red Sox and the Celtics. She enjoyed going out with friends and long walks with her dog. She was proud of her Scottish heritage and her Catholic faith, and passionate about social justice and development in Latin America. Kathy always loved to travel. She went to Australia as a Student Ambassador with People to People in 2004. After several visits to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, she spent a summer there working at the Centro Bilingue. She and Luis kept an ever-growing list of the places they planned to visit. In addition to her husband and her parents, Kathy leaves two sisters and their husbands, Rachel and Steve Martus of Milford, Becky and Neil Herrick of Waterville, VT; two brothers, Isaac Wilkins of Amherst and Aaron Wilkins of Charleston, SC; her mother-in-law, Maria Antonieta Torres of Anthony, TX and sister-in-law, Erinna Rios of Albuquerque; Grandparents, Barbara and Gerry Wilkins of Amherst; numerous cousins, aunts, uncles and friends, and a beloved dog, Sancho. Waiting to greet her in Heaven were her maternal grandparents, Mac and Nancy Dunbar of Hollis. There are no calling hours. ROMERO -- JOSIE MARIA ESTELLA SANCHEZ 1927-2011 On February 5, 1927 Josie Maria Estella Sanchez Romero entered this world, a beautiful daughter, born unto Juan P. Sanchez and Lucinda Chavez Sanchez. Mrs. Romero was called to join them in eternal rest today, July 16, 2011, as her entire family prayed by her side. Josie also joins her husband of 55 years, Jose' Baltazar Romero; her son, Floyd Wilfred Romero; brothers, sisters, and their spouse, Carlota Romero and husband, Trinidad, Delfido Sanchez and wife, Agnes, Priscilla Romero and husband, Boleslo, Lucy Jaramillo and husband, Menard, Melvin Sanchez, Arsenio Sanchez, Lorraine Chavez and husband, Sylverio, Jenny Chavira, Evangeline Aragon and husband, Antonio; several brothers and sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins and special friends. Mrs. Romero was a kind and gentle spirit that was not afraid of any task, including working the farm with her husband. She was a devoted mother that took an active role in raising her grandchildren, and she loved and cherished her great-grandchildren. She worked for the Los Lunas School District, cooking wonderful meals for the staff and students, while her son, Floyd, was in school, and later in life, was a care provider for special needs individuals at Los Lunas Hospital and Training school. She touched the lives of many and was an inspiration with her ambition and ability to make anything look easy. It was often joked among her family that she would have been a great attorney, because of the wonderful advice she always had readily-available! She will be greatly missed by those of us that were fortunate enough to be in her midst. Her final care on earth is entrusted to Romero Funeral Home and services will be held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Tome, beginning with a Viewing on Wednesday, July 20, at 10:00 a.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 10:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. with Father Jose Hernandez, presiding. ROYBAL -- JUAN T. (JOHNNY) January 20, 1922 - July 9, 2011 Born in Ribera, NM, served in the US Army during WWII. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cresencio and Beatrice Roybal; his loving sister and brother-in-law, Amelia and Sammy Rodriguez. SANCHEZ -- ALBERT Age 87, born and lived in Albuquerque's "Martineztown", known to most as "Picon", eased into God's embrace on Saturday, July 16, 2011. He fought the good fight and he finished the race. He was preceded in death by his mother, Aurelia B. Sanchez and his beloved wife of 49 years, Lena D. Sanchez. He began his service to the country with the Civilian Conservation Corps, then, as a Sergeant in the US Army, he proudly fought in the South Pacific with the 356th Anti-Aircraft Battery Company. After WWII he joined Protective Force of the Atomic Energy Commission where he retired in 1979. He then began working for the City of Albuquerque's Meals on Wheels program serving the elderly until his retirement in 1993. He was a loving father and grandpa and is survived by his sister, Francis Scheuring; son, Al U. Sanchez; wife, Debbie and grandsons, Daniel, Mark and Matthew; daughter, Geri Montano, husband, Ed and grandchildren, Rick, Michelle and Kellie; granddaughters, daughter Elaine Lovato, husband, Larry, and grandsons, Anthony, Luke and Shane; daughter, Roseann Saavedra, husband, Roy and granddaughters, Jamie and Amanda; daughter, Katherine Hernandez and grandsons, Ricky and Albert. He is also survived by 20 great-grandchildren. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and hunting. He was a generous man who devoted his time to serving his country and community. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. A special thank you to Kitty, Ricky, Albert and Sana for the loving care they provided my dad. May he be at peace in heaven. WEBER -- LORRAINE M. Age 84, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2011. She worked in an armory during WWII making ammunition; she was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church and a former member of the Albuquerque Garden Club. She enjoyed fishing, floral and vegetable gardening, gaming at the local casinos. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Gary P. Weber; her first husband of 10 years, Tom Clark; two sons, Thomas Raymond Clark and Thomas Mark Clark. WILLIAMS -- GRACE W. Died July 4, 2011 at her home in Albuquerque, NM. She was the former Executive Director of the American Civil Liberties Union of New Mexico from 1975-1993. Grace was born in 1921 in Oklahoma. She moved to Albuquerque, NM in 1952 with her husband Charles and soon became an active member in various community and political organizations including The League of Woman Voters, The Democratic Party of New Mexico, The American Red Cross and the New Mexico Civil Liberties Union. In 1972 Grace went back to finish her education and received a bachelor degree of Arts in Urban Studies from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. Her many friends and relatives will always remember Grace for her strength, courage and optimism. A Memorial Service will be announced to friends and family.
