BRAUGHT -- J.L. Braught, 91, resident of Albuquerque since 1931, died on Tuesday, February 22, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Opal of the family home; children, Florence Higgins and husband, Michael of Raton, NM, L.J. Braught and wife, Renee of Belen, R.J. Mr. Braught was preceded in death by his parents, Cloid and Florence Braught, brothers, R.D. Braught and Donald L Braught. J.L. was a member of Riverside Baptist Church and a veteran of World War II. He was a long standing member of the International Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF), including the canton and encampment branches. Among the many positions he has held in the IOOF are Grand Treasurer, past grandmaster and sovereign representative. He was a past chaplain of the Sovereign Grand lodge. J.L. served on the Lovelace Clinic advisory board and was a Lovelace volunteer for more than 17 years. J.L. was one of the founder of the IOOF and Rebekahs Recreation Area near Mountainaire. He served on the camp board of governors and enjoyed working on improvements at the camp each year. He had the privilege of being the sovereign IOOF escort for the wreath placed at the tomb of the unknown soldier in Washington D.C. He retired from Lovelace Medical center as director of maintenance and continued to be active in construction estimating for National H and V. J.L. and Opal traveled more than 60,000 miles throughout the United States visiting scenic sites, friends and family. CHAVEZ -- Ernestine E. Chavez - born October 7, 1915; died February 23, 2011 After a short illness, mom passed away peacefully with her family by her side. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carpio Chavez; her mother and father and stepfather; daughters Vivian Trout and Joyce Aragon; and grandson, Roger E. Aragon, Jr. She met her husband Carpio M. Chavez and married in 1934. They had their first daughter, Joyce Marie in 1935 and five years later had twin daughters, Vivian Anita and Viola Eleanor. She is survived by her twin daughter Viola and husband Raymond Aragon; grandson Jesse Aragon and wife Tammy; granddaughter Sonya Atencio and husband John; and her three great-grandchildren, who loved her very, very much, Tiffany, Brittany and Johnny Jr. Mom and Dad owned and operated CMC Printers for over 50 years. Mom was a faithful Witness of her God Jehovah for over 60 years, giving people the hope of a resurrection back to a paradise earth. This was her hope as it is ours. (John 5:28,29). CORDOVA -- Bernard C. Cordova AKA "The Barber" age 47, passed away on Sunday, February 20, 2011. He is preceded in death by his parents, David and Connie Cordova. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Vaughn; his four daughters, Tausha Moseley and husband, Neil, Shealynn, D'aundra and Kendra Cordova and partner, Richard Padilla and five grandchildren; sisters, Rosemarie Cordova, Margaret Allen and husband, Stan; brothers, Eugene, Joseph and wife, Theresa; and many nieces and nephews. Bernard was a barber at Campus Barber Shop for 30 years and considered it his love and passion. Cremation has taken place. FERENZ -- Peter Eujin Ferenz, age 30, a resident of Albuquerque was born March 7, 1980 and passed away on February 16, 2011. He is survived by his wife Angelic; son Eujin; daughter Malika; step-sons; Richard and Nathan; mother Uhui Starcher and step-father Yugi Starcher; father Steve Ferenz; sister Angela Cardona and husband Joey; and nieces Chon-sa and LeiLani. Peter was a loving husband, father, son and friend. He attended Highland High School and was on the Highland High football team. Peter loved football and his favorite team was the Seattle Seahawks. Peter attended Scottsdale Culinary Institute in Scottsdale, Arizona. His chosen profession was being a Chef. Peter loved to cook and loved to teach others how to cook. Peter was a strong inspiration and had a strong faith in God. He will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. GREEN -- Herbert. On July 4, 1930 a baby boy was born to the late Rev. Phillip and Mary Walton Green. He departed this life on February 14, 2011. He was the sixth child of 12 children born into this family of which eight preceded him in death. Upon confession of his faith in Jesus Christ Herbert joined the First Missionary Baptist Church of Uniontown, Alabama. He received his formal education from Perry County Training School. After graduating from high school he joined the United States Army where he served his country proudly in the Korean War. After completing a tour of duty in Korea he relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico where he established his resident to advance his education he enrolled at the University of Albuquerque. While attending the University he met and fell in love with Gregory Boone and soon after was united in marriage. His career as a communication specialist for Mountain Bell Telephone Co. expanded over a period of some 28 plus years. His love for God and his strong Christian background eventually led him to unite himself with the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church where he was a dedicated member and served on various auxiliaries and boards including that of a Deacon he served faithfully until his passing. Herbert is a 33 Mason and was a member of Cyrene Lodge #844. Herbert was a man of Commitment very proud and loved his family above all else, often stood in as a father to his many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gregory Boone; one daughter, Lynn Cherry Green; five brothers, Johnnie, Phillip, Clearence, Bernard Green; three sisters, Laurelia Thompson, Regina Green and Julia Hunter. Those left to cherish his treasured memories, one son, Herbert Pierce Green of Germany; one grandson, Herbert Daniell Green of Berlin Germany; one granddaughter, Lessalena Johnson of Arizona; two brothers, Robert (Ethel) Green of Birmingham, Alabama, Donald (Janic) Green of Uniontown, Alabama; one sister, Bertha (Simmie) Williams, of Falls burg, NY; 13nieces; seven nephews and a host of cousins relatives and dear friends. GRIGGS -- Edward Allen Griggs was born on May 5, 1927, in Wildorado, Texas to Ann Birdie and Arthur Griggs, a ranching family. He was the youngest of seven children, and grew up in the depression and dust bowl era. Allen went to work as a driver for Navajo Freight Lines in 1946 until he was called upon to serve his country in Korea. In 1964 he left Navajo and went to work for Teamsters Local 492 as a business agent. He spent three years in Phoenix as an Organizer and returned to Albuquerque where he spent the last three years of his career as Secretary-Treasurer for Local 492. His Irish eyes sparkled with humor, and he had many good friends. He was a warm, generous man who enjoyed life. Allen used his GI Bill to take flying lessons and eventually became an instructor. He had five daughters, Shirley, Nina, Eleanor, Julia and Marilyn. He met and married Mickie Herbert in 1967. They enjoyed a good marriage for 43 years until his death. He loved horses and was a team roper earlier in life. He trained and showed dogs in obedience, field and breed ring. He graduated from American Technical Institute with a degree in electrical engineering. He was deeply loved by friends and family and will very much be missed. Sleep well, Allen dearest. HEPLER -- Gary Elry Hepler, age 64, a resident of Los Lunas, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 20. He was the vice president of the Shadow Riders Motorcycle Club and a member of NNMRO, COC and the U.S. Defenders. Gary was a loving grandfather,step-father, great-grandfather, brother, son and friend. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1964 to 1970 and received the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Gary was very proud of his service to our country. Gary loved to fish and hunt and was a very devoted grandfather. He taught all his grandchildren how to fish, how to hunt, how to plant gardens, how to cook, how to drive, how to be honest and responsible, and how important charity work is to our community. In short, Gary taught us all how to be the best possible versions of ourselves. He was a very devoted man to his charity work in Valencia County. Gary loved to ride his Harley and helped many ladies learn to ride. He was known to the biker community as Candyman and he always had candy for the girls and kids. Gary was a true hero and fighter. He fought his cancer until the time he peacefully passed away. Gary was preceded in death by his father, Ersal Elry Hepler. He is survived by his mother, Rachel Hepler; grandchildren, Elizabeth Gaska, Joshua Martinez, Andrew Martinez and his wife Jessica, Richard Martinez and his wife Amanda, Nic Mora and his wife Miranda, Joey Mora, and Eric Mora; great-grandchildren, Izabelle Martinez, Alenna Martinez, Gabriel Martinez, Eden Mora and Rio Mora; step-children, Donna Martinez and Fred Martinez; sister, Nancy Curtis and her husband, Bill; four uncles; two nephews, Cary Curtis and his wife, Yvonne, and Scott Curtis; one niece, Lucaya; one great-nephew, Greg; two great-nieces, Shelby and Brittney; the Shadow Riders, M.C., Jennifer Padilla and many friends. A viewing and celebration of Gary's life will be held at noon on Friday, Feb. 25, at the Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel. HOWE -- Gary L. Howe, a resident of Sandia Park, NM passed away unexpectedly February 19, 2011. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Cathy. Two sons he loved and respected, a daughter-in-law he loved as a daughter, Brian, Robyn and Jeff Howe. His two grandchildren, Malia and Aidan Howe who were the light of his life. He was born and raised in Rochester, WI; to all in WI he was known as "George." He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth J. and Eloise Albright Howe. He is survived by his sisters, Judy (Jim) Oestrich, Betty (Jerry) Heberling, Bonnie (Fermin) Garcia, and Patti (Rick) Thole. He had a special place in his heart for all of Cathy's family; and many loved nieces and nephews. Gary came to NM to attend UNM graduating in 1970 with an EE degree. He went to work for Motorola Communications in 1974, then transferred and lived in HI for five years. He was deeply committed and loyal to the company and to his many "Motorolans" and customers he was privileged to know. Retiring from Motorola after 32 years he spent the next five years with Pro2Serve enjoying his colleagues and customers there. Gary was an accomplished musician singing and also playing instruments including keyboards and the accordion. Throughout the years he has been in numerous local bands, his most recent being 8Track and Bad Katz Blues. Gary so much enjoyed each band member. He loved playing and singing hymns, especially at "The Barn" church. He had numerous hobbies including riding his Harley with his buddies, Ham Radio, being out in nature with his gun by his side, video games, taking his grandchildren on four-wheeler rides and of course keeping up with the latest gadgets. Many will remember his special passion - setting up his trains at Christmas. Gary was a man of faith. He lived out his faith humbly sometimes with words, always with deed and always with a melody and joy for Our Lord in his heart. We all will miss him, his smile and his love for life. He was special to many people - no one will miss him more than his family. A service will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 2:00 p.m., at French - Lomas. HYDE -- Christina Maria Hyde, a former resident of Nambe, NM, Irving, TX and Santa Fe, NM., passed away at Rio Rancho Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, on Monday, February 21, 2011 at the age of 65. Christina was born November 29, 1945 in Espanola, NM to Lorenzo and Cordelia Rivera. She attended Pojoaque High School, New Mexico State University and worked for the State of New Mexico Health and Environment Department, as Auditor, for 28 years. Christina loved the Dallas Cowboys, enjoyed fishing and traveling. She was a longtime active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Pojoaque and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nambe, where she also played organ for the church for many years. Christina was preceded in death by her parents, Cordelia and Lorenzo Rivera; grandparents, Vitalia and Juan Rivera, Eloisa and Canuto Ortiz; and brother-in-law, Manuel Sedillo. She is survived by her siblings, Lourdes Sedillo of Albuquerque, Larry Rivera of Denver, Veronica Schroer and husband Phil of Rio Rancho; nephews and nieces, Shonn Schroer and wife Michelle of Rio Rancho, NM, Mandee Schroer of Portland, OR, Michelle Rivera of Denver, Justin Schroer of Fresno, CA and Nicholas Schroer of Denver, CO; special friend, Marty Davenport; godmother, Mela Romero; her cats, Nadia and Taies; as well as many cousins, other family members and friends who loved and will miss her. LOPEZ -- Victor J. Lopez, 82, a resident of Albuquerque, went home to be with our Lord on Wednesday, February 23, 2011. He was surrounded by those who loved him. Victor was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Victor was born April 8, 1928 in Magdalena, NM. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lilly; grandson Derek Lopez; great-granddaughter Celeste Holjencin; three brothers; and four sisters. He is survived by his children, Rosie Baca, Irene Abeyta and husband, Alfred, Vickie Sanchez and husband, Chris, Marty Lopez and wife, Marie, Bobby Lopez and wife, Patty, and David Lopez and wife, Yvette; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends. Victor retired from Sandia National Laboratories. PHELPS -- Florence Phelps will be laid to rest February 25, 2011 at 1:00 p.m., at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe NM. She had lived in Albuquerque since 1952 when her husband Joe was assigned to Kirkland AFB. She worked in the Albuquerque Public School system over 20 years and is survived by two children, Joe and Loretta. Florence had many friends in the area and all are welcome to attend the short ceremony at the National Cemetery. She was a great lover of animals and in lieu of flowers please give a small donation to an animal shelter of your choice.

SIMMONS -- Audrey Casey Simmons, 89, long time resident of Albuquerque, born May 25, 1921 in Yantis, TX, died on February 20, 2011 at her home with family by her side. She is survived by her children, Eileen Casey Cook, Janet Stoumbos, Craig Harrison Casey and wife Pamela, and Keith Wayne Casey and wife Dorothy; step-children, Joyce Aker and husband Marlin, Malissa Golf and husband Gary, Neil Simmons and wife Christie, and daughter in spirit, Angie Sanchez Carder; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and numerous extended family members. Audrey was preceded in death by two husbands Kenneth Craig Casey and Henry C. Simmons, and by grandson, Sean Cordova. Audrey was born the youngest of 6 daughters to C.H. and Callie Slatten. She always talked of her fond memories of growing up on the family farm in East Texas. She attended East Texas State in Commerce, TX and earned a Bachelor of Science degree. Audrey started her teaching career in Winsboro, TX. She married Kenneth in 1944 and they later moved to Albuquerque where he was stationed at KAFB. Audrey retired from Albuquerque Public Schools in 1978 after many years of service including her time teaching at both Madison and McKinley Junior High Schools. In her "golden years" she married long time family friend Henry Simmons. They resided in Estancia, NM until his death in 1993. Audrey was very active in Netherwood Park Church of Christ and she considered her fellow church members to be family. She was known for her gentle and caring demeanor, and her beautiful smile was her trademark - a smile that will be missed by all. TORRES -- Dora Mae Torres, age 76, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Sunday, February 20, 2011 surrounded by her family after a valiant battle with cancer. Well known for her strong work ethic, she checked groceries for Safeway/Furrs for more than 25 years and threw a paper route for the Albuquerque Journal for 12 years and was Carrier of the Year in 1995. After retiring, she was caretaker to her in-laws Don and Alvina Dalton. She cherished church, family, friends, beloved pets and her community. She never knew a stranger and had a smile for everyone. She is survived by her soul mate and beloved husband of 43 years, Hugo Torres; daughters, Mary Beth and husband Don Tidwell, Debbie and husband Ted Junkes, Rebecca and husband Dan Gomez; granddaughters, Malynda and husband Ian Cappelle, Andrea and husband Glen White, Sara Junkes, Jillian Junkes, and Jessica Gomez; great-grandsons, Isaiah Barela and Nathan White; sister, June and husband Jim Thompson; brother, Henry and wife Sandie Powell. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Velma Powell and granddaughter, Cristiana Gomez. YOUNGBLOOD -- Ruby L Youngblood, 90, died February 21, 2011. Ruby was born in Bald Knob, Arkansas, September 12, 1920. She is survived by her son Kenneth Duane Raught and wife, Rutha; daughters, Norma Lynn Visage and Linda Lou Hart; daughter-in-law, Elsie Eve "Penny" Raught; sister, Alline Menasco; 24 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and many family, friends and special neighbors. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband Artie A. Youngblood; son, Winfred Dean Raught; her parents Ollie and Nora Kilman; and five of her siblings. Ruby was a member of the Baptist Church. Artie and Ruby were active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars for many years. She was a soft spoken woman with great strength and loyalty. One of her great joys in her life was to tend her garden and orchard. Ruby was a faithful and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend and will be dearly missed.
