PAAK -- Elizabeth Paak A resident of Albuquerque since 1956, Elizabeth was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Lucy Mueller Brueggemann and Joseph Brueggemann. She was married for forty years to Carl E. Paak, professor of art at the University of New Mexico who died in 1991. She was married to Arnold Ronnebeck for ten years until his death in 2007. She is survived by her daughter Lissa Ellen Paak; son-in-law Gordon Henrik Henriksen; son Erick Joseph Paak; daughter-in-law JoAnn Spafford Paak; grandsons, Shane Paak Houston and Kai Ingolf Paak Henriksen; granddaughter Lia Elizabeth Paak Henriksen; stepdaughter Amy Ronnebeck Hall; stepson-in-law Alan Hall; and many friends. Elizabeth was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee and, the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. Elizabeth (or Beth) was a special education teacher for the Albuquerque Public Schools, a special education coordinator, and, for fourteen years was an elementary school principal, first at John Baker School and then at Zuni Elementary Magnet School. She was president of the Albuquerque Public School Principals Association and was a member of many education organizations. She was active in the field of gifted education and was a founder of the Albuquerque Association for Gifted and Talented Students. She became a strong advocate for magnet schools, computer learning and year-round education. Along with the faculty and parents at Zuni school, and IBM business leaders, Elizabeth developed the first elementary curriculum in Albuquerque to be designated as a district magnet program with computers. Elizabeth was a member of the Rotary Club of Albuquerque and was a docent at the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History. She was a supporter of the New Mexico Symphony and a member of the First Unitarian Church of Albuquerque. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Unitarian Church, the Albuquerque Museum Foundation, or, the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra. A memorial service will be held at the First Unitarian Church of Albuquerque on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 4:00 p.m.

PATTERSON -- Ryan Gabriel Patterson was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico on April 25, 1986 and left this earth on December 22, 2010. Ryan was preceded in death by his grandfather, Jose J. Sanchez; grandmother, Elizabeth Patterson; and grandfather, Wardell H. Patterson Sr. He is survived by his mother, Jolyn Sanchez; father, Clifford Michael Patterson; brother, C. Michael Patterson II; nephews, Mikey Patterson, Jalen Patterson, Deonte Griffin; and niece, Amaiah Patterson; his treasured grandmother, Celine Pacheco Sanchez; beloved cousins, Anthony, Angelo (Kiko) and Adrienne Armijo; many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as his brothers in spirit and in sport. Ryan attended Santa Fe schools graduating from St. Michael's High School in 2004. He attended Lamar Community College in Colorado and Highlands University on a baseball scholarship. Ryan lived in Albuquerque and worked for Children, Youth and Families as a Child Care Specialist. He loved his work with the young men at CYFD. Much of Ryan's life was played out on the playing fields of sport. He was an accomplished and natural athlete, his competitive nature always present, his intensity often misunderstood. He did not understand how exceptional his successes...he always strove for more. A rosary will be recited on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at 7:00 p.m., at Santa Maria De La Paz. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at 10:00 a.m., at Santa Maria De La Paz. Interment to follow at Rosario Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Anthony Armijo, Angelo (Kiko) Armijo, Aaron Rodriguez, Jason Barela, Julio Gomez, Crespin Perez, Ted Sanchez, Michael Sandoval, Gilbert Patterson, and Joseph Cole. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Mikey Patterson, Jalen Patterson, Santiago Sandoval, Isaiah Duty, Sebastian Duty, and Tommy Sanchez. PIMENTEL -- Lorenzo Pimentel, age 82, passed away December 27, 2010 at a local hospital. . He is survived by his wife Josefina Pimentel Garnica; eight sons: Carlos, Hector, Agustin, Rick, Robert, Victor, Lawrence, and Gustavo Pimentel; three daughters: Zoyla Munoz, Maricela Pimentel, and Aida Pimentel; one brother Agustin Pimentel; 22 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was the founder of Pimentel and Sons Guitar Makers established in 1951. Visitation will be Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010 from noon to 9:00 p.m., at the Salazar and Sons Mortuary, 400 Third St. SW. RAMIREZ -- John (Johnny) Ramirez, age 61, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque passed away on December 23, 2010. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Patricio and Ventura; brother, Julian, and nephews, Anthony and Lawrence. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Tillie; children, Denise and Mark, wife, Jessica; grandchildren, Arianna, Adrian, Marissa, and Shelyse; brothers, Martin, wife, Virginia, Lorenzo, wife, Phyllis, Patricio, Jessie, wife, Erlinda; sisters, Mercy Portillo, husband, George, and Rosemary Rodarte; sister-in-law, Priscilla Ramirez; and many nieces and nephews. Johnny was a very proud union member of the plumbers and pipefitters local union 412, and a huge Lobo and Los Angeles Dodger fan. He was also proud to be a member of the New Mexico Air National Guard. Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, December 28, 2010, 7:00 p.m., at San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church, 2005 Plaza NW. RIVERA -- Bertha Barela Rivera, resident of Albuquerque for many years, passed away Wednesday evening, December 22, 2010. She was born in Santa Fe, NM on July 7, 1930. Her parents, now deceased, are Lorenzo Barela and Josefa Silva, who had 13 children: five girls and eight boys. Preceding her in death are siblings Socorro Gage, Eluterio Barela, Lorenzo Barela, Raymond Barela, George Barela; and daughter-in-law Karen Dunbar Rivera. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Raul A. Rivera; four children, Maria L. Brandon of Albuquerque, NM, Dr. Louis R. Rivera and wife Julia of Albuquerque, NM, Robert Rivera and wife Ginny of San Antonio. TX and Richard Rivera and partner Brady Lanier of Houston, TX; eight grandchildren, Dr. Louis C. Rivera, Theresa Neely, Angela Rivera, Alexander Rivera and wife Jennifer, Rachel Rivera, Natalie Rivera, Benjamin Rivera, and Dominic Rivera; and three great-grandchildren, Jasmine, Dillon, and Nathaniel; She is also survived by her sisters Margie Martinez and husband Leandro, Mary Ann Martinez, and Dolores Heimerich; and her brothers Cayetano Barela and wife Lydia, Manuel Barela, Diego Barela and wife Carmen, and Antonio Barela and wife Angie. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Bertha attended schools in Santa Fe, and graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1948. She then began working as a stenographer for the Santa Fe Welfare Department. She worked in several positions for the Welfare Department, and was promoted to secretary by the time she retired from the Department in 1955. She married Raul in January 1956 and the couple moved to Espanola, NM where their four children were born. In 1963, Bertha and Raul moved to Albuquerque, where they lived for two years. Then they moved to Santa Fe. There Bertha volunteered for the public schools, primarily at Nava Elementary School. In December 1972, the family moved back to Albuquerque, and have lived there since. Around 1975, Bertha began working as an educational assistant for Albuquerque Public Schools at Sandia High School, John Baker Elementary, Matheson Park Elementary, and others. She retired from APS in April, 1992. Bertha was also a stay-at-home mom for many years. Bertha was a devout Catholic and was a member of Queen of Heaven Church. At Queen of Heaven, she was an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. Bertha was also a member of the Catholic Daughters, the Altar Rosary Society, and Saint Vincent de Paul. She had many interests including reading, crossword puzzles, computer games, bowling, going to casinos, traveling, and watching game shows on television. After retiring, she traveled to many places including Spain, the Canadian Rockies in the Vancouver area, and Hawaii. She also went on several cruises to such locations as Alaska, the Panama Canal, the Caribbean, and the Mexican Riviera. She was a great wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be missed very much by everyone who knew her. A Rosary Memorial Service will be recited on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary ~ University Chapel, 1111 University Boulevard NE. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 5310 Claremont NE. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. SALAS -- Evangeline (Eva) Salas, 59, a resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 with her loving family by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mary Mora; sister, Virginia Mora; brother, Frank Mora Jr.; and nephew, Mark Mora. Eva is survived by her daughter, Michelle Salas; son, Eric Salas and Tina; special grandchildren, Vanessa Griego and Eric Salas, Jr.; sisters, Velma Benavidez and Herman, and Betty Garcia and Steve; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and other beloved family members. SCHWERDEL -- June. In loving memory of June Schwerdel, 85, a resident of Albuquerque, who died December 26, 2010. June was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. SPROUL -- Francine Sproul, 68, left us to be with her Lord on Sunday, December 26, 2010 at home surrounded by her loving family and friends.
