KULA -- Lt. Col. Loren W. Kula, USAF Retired, passed away on September 16, 2010. He was born on September 23, 1932 in Oxford Junction, Iowa to Louis and Florence (Yale) Kula and graduated from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. He married Betty Golden in 1957, and they enjoyed a happy marriage for forty-four years until her death in 2001. A long-time resident of Albuquerque, he entered the Air Force as an aviation cadet in 1953 and retired in 1973. He flew reconnaissance, strategic, and tactical air missions in the United States and internationally, and combat missions in Vietnam. His many medals and commendations reflect his outstanding performance as a pilot and officer. Upon retiring from the military, he was a corporate pilot for Muller Construction and Rust Tractors. He also flew for the Air Ambulance service. He was an enthusiastic member of two barbershop singing groups: the New Mexichords and Duke City Technical Chorus. Loren is survived by his children, Mary Lea (married to Roy Lea) of Arizona, Connie Nowak of Ohio, Greg Kula of Albuquerque, and Lori Mehl (married to Ian Mehl) of Albuquerque; He is also survived by ten grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. His wife Betty; son Steve; and great-grandson Alex predeceased him. A funeral mass will be held at Church of the Risen Savior, 7701 Wyoming Blvd NE, at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, September 21, 2010. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven cemetery. KYLE -- Willa Dene Kyle was born June 27, 1926, in Detroit, Michigan. She departed this life to be with her Lord on September 17, 2010. She is survived by her husband, Ross, to whom she was married 64 years; She is also survived by two daughters, Rhonda Lovato (Dr. Richard G. Lovato), Albuquerque, New Mexico and Beverly K. Higgason (Max E. Higgason), Corbin, Kentucky; three grandchildren, Kyle E. Higgason and wife Caroll, Cincinnati, Ohio, Erika Lovato, Denver, Colorado, Michael R. Higgason, Corbin Kentucky; She was the proud great-grandmother of great-grandchildren, Abby, Jackson, Caroline and Weston. She was a life long member of the Methodist Church, where she played the violin and sang. She also served her country during WWII by being a riveter and welder in the shipyards in Evansville, Indiana and Chicago, Illinois. She will be missed by all, her love for her family will be enduring. Services will be held on Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at 12:00 p.m., with visitation from 11:00 a.m., to service time, at French ~ Wyoming Chapel. ROONEY -- Patrick Joseph Rooney, 82, born of Albuquerque, New Mexico, died September 17, 2010, at St. John's Rehabilitation Facility in Albuquerque, with his daughters Anne and Sheila, and his long time friend and former wife, Mara Rooney at his side, after battling a long illness. Patrick, the oldest of five children, was born November 24, 1927, to John and Elizabeth Rooney at Kiltyclogher, County Leitrim, Ireland. He immigrated to the United States in 1948 and joined the US Army in September 1950, where he served his chosen country with distinction during the Korean Conflict. He moved to Albuquerque in 1953. He worked for many years for the Public Service Company of New Mexico, as well as at Kirtland Air Force Base. He is survived by a sister, Margaret O'Hara, of Melbourne, Australia, a brother, Francis Rooney, of Yonkers, New York, preceded in death by his youngest son Pvt. Shawn Joseph Rooney, US Army serving in Desert Storm. He is also survived by his oldest son, Patrick Francis Rooney, of Broomfield, Colorado; daughters: Anne White and husband William, Sheila Rooney, and son, Michael R. Rooney (Micky), all of Albuquerque; and seven grandchildren. He enjoyed participating in Veterans of Foreign War as well as American Legion Activities, and was an avid hiker in the Sandia foothills. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that donations be made to the St. Johns Rehabilitation Center, or the St. Vincent De Paul Society. There will be a Rosary at 9:30 a.m., with the Mass of the Resurrection following at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at John XXIII Catholic Church, 4831 Tramway Ridge Dr NE in Albuquerque. TAPIA -- Augustine G. Tapia , 85, of Albuquerque, beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend, passed away on Friday, September 17, 2010, while surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in New Mexico, Mr. Tapia proudly served his country during WWII , in the 346th infantry company, United States Army. He was preceded in death by his loving wife , Antonia Tapia; and son-in-law Richard Lucero. Augustine is survived by his loving family, children, Tillie Lucero, Charlotte (Raymond) Thomen, Larry(Isabel) Tapia and Leonard (Norma) Tapia; grandchildren, Richard Lucero , Carmelita Lucero, Alicia Tapia, Abran Tapia( Margo Padilla) and Gabriela Tapia; great-grandchildren, Isabel Gurule and Scarlet Tapia; sisters, Eva (Raymond) Casias and Eleanor Barreras. WARRICK -- Ronald Dee Warrick Sr., 74, resident of Rio Rancho, passed away Friday, September 17, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Ellen Warrick; daughters, Meloney Sanchez and husband, Juan, Felicia Davis and husband, Mike, and Paula Corral and husband, Manuel; sons, Ronald "Randy" Warrick Jr. and partner, Chris, and Shawn Warrick and fiance, Annmarie Crispen; grandchildren, Cecilia Velarde and husband, Joe, April Maestas and husband, Mario, Manuel Corral Jr. and fiance, Danielle, Kevin Diegel, Christopher Warrick, and Marisa Davis; and great-grandchildren, Anna Marie, Selena, Jose, Alissa, Arianna, and Mario. He was preceded in death by grandson, Juan DeJesus Sanchez Jr.; A.D. and Grace Warrick; and aunt and uncle, T.W. and Noreen Warrick, Ronald retired from the US Navy. ALL RUNNER -- Phoebe F. All Runner, resident of Albuquerque for over 50 years, and a member of Choctaw Tribe of Oklahoma, passed away surrounded by family on Sunday, September 19, 2010. Phoebe was born on March 13, 1917 to George and Otis M. Fisher in Stigler, OK. She is survived by her son Cedric All Runner Jr.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Phoebe was preceded in death by her husband, Cedric All Runner, Sr., in 1984; sisters, Judy Fisher, Norma Ruth Bacon, and Susie Jane Morris; and brothers, Israel Fisher, David James Fisher, Job Fisher, and Robert Noah Fisher. Phoebe served her country during WWII as a member of the Woman's Army Corps. Following her Army service she became a Dorm Matron for the Bureau of Indian Affairs Schools at Ft. Defiance, AZ and then retired from the Albuquerque Indian School. She was a member of North American Indian Women's Association and WAC Veterans Unit 60. Phoebe was also a proud member of the Carlisle Community Baptist Church for many years. CHECKLEY -- Michael Anthony Checkley "Michael" was born April 24, 1986 in Albuquerque, NM. He returned to our Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 19, 2010. Michael is survived by his father, Rudolph "Rudy" C. Checkley and wife, Deborah; mother, Marlene Lindstrand and husband, Lyman; brothers, Rudolph C. "R.C." Checkley, II, Ralph Merrill and wife, Tiffany, and Jordan Walker; sisters, Tijh Kervin and husband, Jon, Stephanie Vancleave, and Jenifer Vancleave; grandmothers, Joyce Thomas and Rose Marie Checkley; aunts, Cindy Gonzalez and Kathleen Gitkin; uncle, Ralph Checkley; stepmother, Therresa Hampton; as well as numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews; dear friend, Nick Fuller; and family friend, Mary Merrill. Michael was a 2005 graduate of Rio Rancho High School where he lettered in swimming. Michael recently received his Realtors License and had started his new career with Coldwell Bankers. Michael was an avid swimmer and a certified lifeguard. He loved being a lifeguard and a swim coach. Michael was loved by all who knew him and had more friends in his 24 years than most people have in a lifetime. COLEMAN -- Karen Coleman, age 66, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother was called to her heavenly home by the Lord on September 20, 2010. Karen was born in Boulder, CO on January 8, 1944. A resident of Albuquerque, NM for 46 years, she was a dedicated member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where she was a catechism teacher. She worked as a unit secretary at Kaseman Hospital for 30 years. She was president of the Parent Teacher Association at MacArthur Elementary School and a dedicated Valley Viking fan. Karen was preceded in death by her parents: Charles and Edith Conway. She is survived by her husband of 46 years: Al Coleman; son, Joe Coleman and wife, Cathy of Albuquerque; daughter: Edy Smith and husband, Robert of Port Orange, Florida; son: Jim Coleman of Albuquerque; her precious grandchildren: Tiffany, Caitlyn and Luke Smith; and Shayla, Bo and Trey Colman; sister: Patricia Givens and husband, John of Albuquerque and uncle: Harold Conway; nieces and nephews: Richard Givens (Peggy), Lori Myers (Kip), John Givens (Cristina), and Kelli Lemken (Billy) and all those who knew her, loved her and felt like they were best friends with her.
