BRUNSON -- Charlsie Faye Brunson, age 87 peacefully passed away on April 16, 2010 in Albuquerque, NM. She was born to James and Bernice Tinsley in McKinney, TX. Faye was a loving, caring wife and mother who always put her family's needs first. She was involved with the PWOC, The Roadrunner Waves, and was very involved in the church as a Sunday school teacher, Girl Scout leader and graduated from Stevens Ministries in Albuquerque and took time into her busy schedule as a Red Cross volunteer. Faye served her country proudly during WWII in the United States Navy. Faye is survived by her daughter, Melanie Brunson; and one grandson, Colton Troop and his wife, Kylie. Faye was preceded in death by her husband, George S. Brunson, Jr. in 2003. Her parents; three sisters, Marie Hensley, Amelia Chaffin and Eleanor Hensley; and four brothers, Robert Tinsley, James Tinsley, Charles Tinsley and Harold Tinsley. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at French Mortuary ~ Lomas Chapel. A visitation will take place one hour prior to services. CHU -- Lai Yue Chu, age 61 passed away in Albuquerque, NM on April 16, 2010. She was born to Ying and Shui Wong in Guangzhou, China. Lai was the owner and operator of Ho Lo Ma Chinese Restaurant since 1972. She was a life member of the Chinese-American Citizens Alliance. Lai is survived by her sister, Linda Louie and husband, Li Lee Louie; two brothers, Tai Wong and wife, Fu Wong and Wayne Wong; four sisters, Kathy Mar and husband, John, Nancy Chu, Karen Kamtz and husband, Gary and Mary Wong. CORRIE -- Oneta R. Corrie, age 86, passed on peacefully to our Lord on April 15 at Belen Meadows in Belen New Mexico. Born 4-28-23 in Lafayette Tennessee to Virginia Alexander and John Cothron. Oneta lived a life full of travel as she was the wife of Max, who is retired Air Force. They lived in Okinawa and Japan while raising their two children eventually making their home in Albuquerque. Oneta was a wonderful, loving and dedicated wife and mother. She will be greatly missed by all who love her. Oneta is survived by her loving husband of 64 wonderful years, Max Corrie; son Charles Corrie and wife Barbara; daughter Allyne Cox and husband William; brother Jessee Cothron; grandchildren, Sean, Shannon, Clint, Charlie and Colleen; great-grandchildren, Kirsten and Haley. EDEN -- Gorden Edward Eden Sr., 87, passed away in his home on Thursday, April 15, 2010. Gorden was the son of Ben and Bernice Eden, whose family 'homesteaded' in Stanley, NM, where he attended school. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Ft. McDowell CA, which became the staging area for replacements in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. Gorden married Charlotte Marie Lewis on September 27, 1947, and together they had three children. Gorden and Charlotte lived on a ranch in the South Valley of Albuquerque for many years, where they raised race-horses. Gorden enjoyed a long and successful career in automobile sales and management working many years for Galles Motor Co. and Ed Black's Chevrolet, before co-owning an auto sales business with Charlotte. Gorden and Charlotte were long time members of Central United Methodist Church and Gorden was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Gorden is survived by his sons, U.S. Marshal Gorden E. Eden Jr. and wife, Mary; John Eden and Jeanne of AZ; daughter-in-law, Susan Eden; grandchildren, Tiffany, Ryan and wife Katie, Renee, Kyle and fiance Katie, Josh and Cory; great-grandchildren Chandler and Elliott, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte; daughter Sherry; and son, Travis. At his request, a private service for his immediate family will be held. FISHER -- Martin Dean Fisher, 88, a resident of Albuquerque since 1951, passed away Friday, April 16, 2010. He is survived by his son, Martin Dale Fisher of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Audrey Rivers and husband, Glenn of Stuart, FL, and Justin Fisher and wife, Breanna of Los Lunas; great-grandchildren, Avery Rivers and Tyler and Alexandria Fisher; sisters, Dora Fisher of Albuquerque and Juanell Thompson of Paragould, AR; brothers, Bill Fisher of Rio Rancho, Jerold Fisher and wife, Joyce of Albuquerque and Tom Fisher and wife, Donita of Alamogordo; sister-in-law, Betty Fisher of Midland, TX; and large extended family. Mr. Fisher was preceded in death by his wife, Sigal Fisher. Martin served in the US Army Air Corp during WWII. He was a welding shop foreman for W.W. Steel and Mega Corp, retiring in 1991. HAKENSON -- Dorothy Jane Hakenson, 82, passed away peacefully after years of fighting a terminal illness. She was a joy and an inspiration to her family and friends and a loving grandmother to her two grandchildren. Dorothy was born in Iowa City, IA, raised on a farm, and taught eight grades in a one-room country schoolhouse. Her and her husband Carl, of 52 years, lived in several states before finally settling in Albuquerque in 1965 where Dorothy fell in love with the NM skies. She was a teacher, homemaker, gourmet cook, seamstress, and later in life, a proud college graduate. She was involved in AAUW Cuisine, Square Dancing, Newcomers, and AFS. Her love of travel took her and her husband all over the U.S. visiting friends and family. Dorothy was passionate about the Sandia Mountain Campgrounds and spent many summers as the head cook for church camps. She was also a member and very involved with St. Andrew Presbyterian Church. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Carl Goy; and son, Dean Harry. Dorothy is survived by her children Jane Kelly and her husband Michael of Randolph, NJ; Gary Hakenson, wife Edna and daughter Sydney of Las Cruces, NM; Carla Haynes, husband Tad and son, Casey of Sandia Park, NM; sister Lida Mary Sigg of Iowa City, IA. The family is very grateful for the loving care provided by the staff of both NMCC & Andrew House. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Andrew Presbyterian. LEUTZINGER -- Sheldon Lloyd "Shel" Leutzinger of Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, New Mexico, died April 16, 2010 at age 89. Sheldon was born December 17, 1920 in Harlan, Shelby County, Iowa to parents Edward Dutch Leutzinger and Ruth Inscho. He was a graduate of Harlan High School in 1939, and relocated to Albuquerque in the early 1950's. He married Margaret Lucille McBride on April 28, 1955 in Bosque Farms, NM. During World War II Sheldon was recognized with an Army-Navy Production Award for his work in the manufacture of the B-26 and B-29 aircraft. From May 30, 1952 to his retirement on December 31, 1985, he worked for Pound Brothers and Genuine Parts, which both became part of Napa Auto Parts. Sheldon was a member of the International Association of Lions Clubs, as well as a volunteer with the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. In retirement, he was a member of Poco Quatros Model A Ford Club, having owned many Model A Fords dating back to his youth in Harlan and Council Bluffs, IA. He enjoyed the outdoors, and spent much of his free time camping, fishing, working in his garden, and tending his pet turtles. Sheldon is survived by his daughter Anita Harrison and spouse Jerry of Albuquerque; son John Leutzinger and spouse Barbara of Scottsdale, Arizona; his grandchildren, Richard Moya and spouse Seddah of Las Cruces, NM; Michael Moya and spouse Erin of Albuquerque; Hayley Leutzinger and Eric Leutzinger of Scottsdale, AZ; and great-granddaughter Avery Moya of Las Cruces; as well as several close friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret (daughter of Job Stewart McBride and Mary Gertrude Grosjean; born May 17, 1924 in Muscatine, Iowa; died December 19, 1989 in Albuquerque), his parents, and his siblings Paul "Buzz," Edward, June Rose, and Shirley. LEWIS -- Ruth E. Lewis, 97, long time resident of Albuquerque passed away April 13, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vilo G. Lewis, and her daughter, Linda L. Welton. Born in Parkville, MO August 8, 1912, she attended Park College for 3 years She received her B.S. degree in 1934 from Central State University in Warrensburg, MO. She then came to Albuquerque where she was employed as a Therapeutic Dietician at St. Joseph's Hospital and as an instructor in Chemistry and Nutrition in the St. Joseph School of Nursing. In 1940, she married Vilo and resigned from her job at the Hospital, only to return the next year when Vilo was drafted for duty during World War II. Upon his discharge in 1945, Ruth retired to become a homemaker. She spent many volunteer hours working for the American Red Cross, at First Presbyterian Church (where she and Vilo were long time members), and in the Albuquerque Meadows Senior Retirement Center. She is survived by two grandchildren: Anthony Opalka of Boise, ID and Kelly Shelton and husband, Jeremy, of Albuquerque; two nieces: Nancy Wallace of Milwaukee, WS and Sharon McNamee of Houston, TX; two nephews: Michael and Danny McNamee of El Paso, TX; four great-grandchildren: Diego Opalka, Marcus, Cameron, and Kaylee Shelton. Cremation has taken place. Services will be held on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust NE. ORTEGA -- Ricky Dean Ortega, Jr., age 28 a resident of Los Lunas, passed away on Thursday, April, 15, 2010. Ricky is survived by his loving parents, Rick and Veronica Ortega; sister, Erica Ortega and boyfriend, Conrad; brothers, Joseph Ortega and fiancee, Rebecca and Matthew Ortega and girlfriend, Cynthia; nephews, Gregory and Brandon Melton and Joseph Ortega, Jr.; grandpa, Frank Ortega and nina, Lorraine Armijo, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins who loved him and will miss him dearly. Ricky is also survived by his loving and beautiful daughter, Esperanza, who meant the world to him. Ricky was a loving father to Esperanza and would have done anything for her. The day she was born was a new beginning for Ricky and he was always so proud of her. She was "Daddy's girl." When asked about Esperanza, his face would light up with the big, beautiful smile that he had. Ricky was also a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan. All services will be held at Calvary New Harvest Church in Los Lunas on Tuesday, April 20, 2010, beginning with a viewing at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor David Maestas officiating. Interment will be private. PROSCIA -- Mamie Theresa Proscia, passed away peacefully, April 16, 2010 in Albuquerque. She was born March 12, 1923 to Charles and Anna Cimino in Sunol, California. She attended St. Mary's High School in Albuquerque, graduating in 1942. She later met Nicholas Proscia while he was stationed at Sandia Base serving in the United States Army. They married in Albuquerque at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in 1947. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Long Island, New York, and returned to Albuquerque in 1956. Mamie was an active member of The Italian Women's Club, Casa Angelica, and a faithful long time member of Our Lady of Assumption Parish. Mamie is survived by her children, daughters, Ann Atwood and husband Charles, Barbara Roesch and husband Joseph; son, Michael Proscia and wife Marylin; brother Father Michelangelo Cimino and his twin sister, Jennie Castro; grandchildren, Gregory Atwood, Christopher Atwood, and Dr. Justin Roesch, MD. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Nicholas Proscia; sisters, Mary Pascetti and Josephine Pascetti. SANDFORD -- Lavelle McCaughtry Sandford, 99, a resident of Albuquerque since 2003, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 17, 2010 just shy of her hundredth birthday. She is survived by her niece, Neva King, with whom she lived. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Sandford, in 1968; and five siblings. Lavelle began her life in Chickasha, OK. She married William and moved to Maryland where they owned and operated a dry-cleaning service providing services for the FDR Administration. They retired and returned to Chickasha. She came to Albuquerque in 1978 until 1986 to care for her sister, Atha. During that time she made many friends. After Atha's death, she returned to Chickasha. She later moved back to Albuquerque to live with her niece. A memorial service to celebrate and honor this loving and generous woman will take place, Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at French - Wyoming Chapel. Final services and interment will take place in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Mrs. Sandford's family would like to thank all the special people and friends that helped care for her.
