DERRY -- Vivien Derry passed away peacefully on the evening of July 24, 2009 at the Woodmark Assisted Living facility in Albuquerque. Vivien came to Silver City, New Mexico in 1946 from Arkansas where she was born on Ozone Mountain in 1916. She made the entire journey by train to be with her first husband, Bill Wagner who, among many others, had found Silver City as a place to recover from tuberculosis. Years later as a single mother, she was office manager for E. Cosgrove's Hardware Store on Bullard Street. She also worked briefly for an abstract and title insurance company, where she taught herself to be an abstractor. Later, she and her husband, Clyne Derry, opened Derry Abstract and Title Company which she operated for 19 years until her retirement. She was known by everyone as a friendly, hardworking business woman and mother with a great sense of humor. She and Clyne enjoyed traveling and after retirement they toured every state in the contiguous US in their RV. In 2005 she moved to Albuquerque with her husband for health reasons. She lived her last three years at The Woodmark Assisted Living facility. She is preceded in death by all of her brothers and sisters; her husband Clyne; and her son-in-law, Dave Gerritson. She is survived by her daughter Linda Pace Gerritson of Silver City, Ken Wagner and his wife Margo of Albuquerque, and Bill Cobb and his partner Sam Mayer, also of Albuquerque. She has two grandchildren Clarissa Wagner and Chet Wagner. At her request no memorial services are planned. Her family wishes to extend gratitude to the entire staff of The Woodmark who filled her last years with attention and tender-loving care and to her wonderful doctor, Elizabeth Morgan who was always available and went way beyond to give Vivien tremendous medical care. Their deep appreciation also extends to the Hospice of the Sandias and the individual caregivers who gently cared for her at the end. A Favorite Poem of Vivien: God hath not promised skies always blue- Flower strewn pathways all our lives through. God hath not promised sun without rain- Joy without sorrow, peace without pain. But, God hath promised strength for the day. Rest for the labor; light for the way. Grace for the trials, help from above, Unfailing sympathy and undying love.
