ABEYTA-BACA -- Enrique Benerito "squishy cheeks" Abeyta-Baca, infant son of Francina Baca and Roy Abeyta Jr., died Wednesday, February 25, 2009. He is also survived by his brother, Andres Abeyta-Baca; sister, Shaylee Abeyta-Baca; grandmothers, Tashia Baca, Selina Vigil and Valentina Marquez; grandfather, Roy Abeyta Sr.; and great-grandparents; many aunts, uncles, cousins and other family members. ARCHULETA -- Gregorita "Golla" G. Archuleta, 103, passed away February 26, 2009. She was born November 20, 1905, in Dominguez, NM to Reyes and Eutimia Gurule. Gregorita was a lifetime resident of New Mexico, living in Albuquerque, NM, since 1973, Cuba prior to that. She was a pioneer teacher; she was a great supporter of education encouraging all of her children and grandchildren to attend college. Gregorita was a Catholic Daughter, caregiver, loved to cook and garden, and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by 4 children, Dan (Martha) Archuleta, of Albuquerque, Robert (Juanita) Archuleta, of Horca, CO, Amadeo (Liva) Archuleta, and Jo Ella Archuleta, of Albuquerque; six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, Daniel III (Jennifer) and their two children, Gregory (Emilie) and their three children, Donna (Darin) and their three children, Cecelia (Luis) and their three children, Kris (Mike), and Aron; brothers and sisters, Ernest Gurule (Henrietta), Isabelle Torres, Marcia Gurule, all of Albuquerque, and LaLa (Don) Caruthers of Pleasanton, CA. Gregorita is preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, Daniel B. Archuleta, Sr., brothers, Merejildo, Roberto, Steve, and Aparcio Gurule, and sisters, Lucarita Martinez and Theresa Velarde. Pallbearers will be Aron Achuleta, Daniel Archuleta III, Gregory Archuleta, Kris Archuleta, Chris P. Aira, and Nicholas Archuleta. Honorary pallbearers are Fred Gurule, Louis Velarde, Arthur Martinez, Aryhur Gurule, Ernie Torrez, Gary Caruthers, Michael Gurule, Cecilla Archuleta, and Donna Archuleta. BAKER -- Jack E. Baker passed away on February 24, 2009 at his home in Truth or Consequences with his loving wife, Zenith Baker, at his side. Jack was born on May 12, 1936 in Canutillo, New Mexico the second of five children. Jack began his career as a lineman at the age of 18 with El Paso Power and Light and then worked for Reynolds Electric, PNM and Gardner Zemke. In 1975 he started Howard Electric in Gallup which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1995. He was very involved in many community projects including a lifetime Member of the Elk's Club, Sierra Vista Hospital, Rotary clubs of Gallup and T or C and was instrumental in the design and building of the T or C Rotary Park and was the construction coordinator for the city of T or C. His passions were fishing and hunting and traveling. He was very proud of his extensive collection of Indian artifacts and hunting trophies. Jack will always be remembered for his sense of humor, candid viewpoints and philosophical discussions. Jack was loved and respected and will be missed by all. Jack was preceded in death by his parents Marie and HE Baker, children Joey and Rhonda Baker. He is survived by his wife, Zenith; son, Randy Baker and his wife Denise; step-sons Kevin McTavish and wife, Amie, Sean McTavish and wife Regina; several grandchildren and one great-grandchild. A gathering of friends and family will be held Saturday, February 28, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the family home, 400 West Riverside Drive, in Truth or Consequences. BRACK -- Dolly Brack, 79, a resident of Albuquerque since 1981, passed away Monday, February 23, 2009. She is survived by her daughters Gloria Baratta and husband Ricardo of Rio Rancho, Liliana Graf and husband Norberto of Albuquerque; son Ricardo Brack and wife Nancy of Albuquerque; grandchildren Leonardo Baratta, Alexis Graf and wife Felicia, Ricardo Graf and wife Angela, Nadia Hinkle and husband Shea, Lissette Vancil and husband Craig, and Christopher Brack and wife Melissa; and great-grandchildren Caleb Hinkle, Chloe Graf, Addie Graf, Kyera Brack, and Gabriela Vancil. Mrs. Brack was preceded in death by her husband Manfred Brack. Along with her husband, Mrs. Brack owned and operated German Motorwerke. BRUNER -- Hilda Bruner passed away on February 23, 2009 in Albuquerque, NM. Hilda was born in a log cabin in Pickens County, AL to Elvin & Ada Clemmons on August 18, 1934. As the wife of an Air Force officer and later on her own, Hilda traveled extensively, visiting 49 of the 50 states in the country. She had countless life long friends, was active in community service, and was a loving caregiver. She is survived by her children Rick Bruner and wife Lujuana of Prattville, AL, Ken Bruner and wife Karen of Kapolei, HI, and Becky Halvorsen and husband Gary of Albuquerque, NM; eight Grandchildren Stephan Halvorsen, Stephanie Fielder, Theran Harlan, Kristina Bruner, Stacia Bruner, Nicole Bruner, Nathan Bruner, and Wynne Bruner; and one greatgrandson Hayden Fielder. She is also survived by two sisters Gladys McGahey of Tuscaloosa, AL and Mavis Durden of Columbus, MS; as well as an aunt, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa, AL on March 7, 2009. C' DE BACA -- Paul A. C' De Baca, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Lou; daughter Sharon Hemenway of Copperas Cove, TX; grandchildren Melissa Wales of Raleigh NC, Bryan Wales of Raleigh NC, Ashley Lowery and husband Richard of Killeen, TX, Michael Wales of Raleigh NC, Brittany Hemenway of Copperas Cove TX; great-grandchild Presley Lowery of Killeen TX; brothers Anthony C' De Baca and Rocky C' De Baca; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and a large, extended family. Mr. C' De Baca was preceded in death by his daughter Deborah Wales. Mr. C' De Baca served in the US Army for over 20 years. Paul owned and operated MBA Carwash Equipment. He and Mary Lou have been parishioners at Sangre de Cristo Catholic Church for many years. CANDELARIA -- Juan de Dios Candelaria Sr., 81, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on February 25, 2009 with his family at his side. Mr. Candelaria is survived by his children Rebecca Candelaria Cooper and husband, Rick, Priscilla Romero, Theresa Chavez, Cathy Candelaria and husband, Tomas Gutierrez, Juan de Dios Candelaria Jr., Al Candelaria and wife, Adrienne; his companion, Cecilia Vigil; his sisters, Florela Gonzales, Ramona Martinez, Ignacia Candelaria, Mary Carlos and husband, Ruben, and Rosie Urban; his brother, Tito Candelaria and wife, Lilly; his brother in law, Nestor Herrera; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Candelaria was preceded in death by his wife, Julia ; his parents, Tito and Lita ; brothers, Richard and Justo; and his sister, Pasty Herrera. Mr. Candelaria was a member of the Catholic Church and a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in WWII. DEROCHIE -- Thomas McLennan DeRochie August 11, 1937 - February 23, 2009 Tom DeRochie died Monday, February 23, 2009 at home in Paso Robles, CA, after a prolonged illness. He is survived by his wife, Catherine M. DeRochie of Paso Robles, CA; her daughter, Rachel Zamora of Denver, CO; his sister Anne Burton of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada; daughter, Theresa E. Almaraz of Churchton, MD; son, Thomas A. DeRochie of Tijeras, NM; stepson, Monty Gariss of New Mexico; Elizabeth F. DeRochie of Albuquerque, NM and three precious grandchildren, Adam, Randy & Sarah. FERNANDEZ -- Patricia "Trish" Fernandez, 65, of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on February 25, 2009. "The kindest, sweetest person you'd ever meet" and a friend and educator to so many, Trish was born on May 28, 1943 to Edward and Mary (Chambers) Otten of Milledgeville, IL. She graduated from Clovis High School in 1961, and earned her B.A. in English from the University of New Mexico in 1966. Mrs. Fernandez, also known as Ms. Robison, taught English and Speech at Belen High School until her retirement in 2004. She was well liked by both her peers and students and inspired many students to achieve their greatest potential. Her greatest joy was spending time with her six much loved grandchildren. She loved to celebrate events and special occasions, such as the Oscars and other occasions by hosting parties. Mrs. Fernandez was an excellent cook and loved to entertain. In her spare time, she mastered the art of knitting and shared her creations with her family and friends. Her sister recalls Trish's love of swimming beginning at a young age at the Y.M.C.A. Trish is preceded in death by her parents and her step-mother, Sara. She is survived by her husband, Roger Fernandez, of the family home in Albuquerque; her sons, Sam Robison, and his wife, Claudia, of Albuquerque, NM, George Robison and his wife, Christine, of Detroit, MI; stepchildren, Robin Fernandez and her partner, James Baca, and Elliott Fernandez, both of Albuquerque; her adored grandchildren, Savannah, Sammy, Sofia, Mia, James, Julian, and another who is on her way; her sister, Pam Burden and her husband, Ron, of Cottonwood, AZ; dear friends, Effie Murphy and Sara Maley; and numerous cousins and other friends who will miss her very much. FESSENDEN -- Delmore L. Fessenden, 85, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 26, 2009. Del is survived by his wife of 27 years, Sharon; his children Sue Schanze and her husband Bob, Sandy Andreessen and her husband Dean, and Richard Fessenden and his wife Cecilia; ten grandchildren Michelle, Michael, Mark, Jeff, Steven, Jon, Aaron, Allison, Kimberly and Kyle: seven great-grandchildren: Halley, Bryce, Madison, Bradley, Colby, Gunnar and Riley; siblings Duane and his wife Gloria, Darlene and her husband Chuck, Dorothy and her husband Keith; and numerous nieces and nephews. Del grew up on the farm that his grandfather homesteaded in South Dakota. His family moved to Miltonvale, Kansas where he finished high school. Subsequently, he enlisted in the Army Air Corp and became a pilot. After WWII he returned to Ball State University where he earned a Master's in Education. He never lost his love of flying and after teaching for three years, he reenlisted as a pilot in the Air Force. He retired as a full Colonel in 1980. He then moved to Albuquerque where he met and married Sharon. He was a commercial real estate agent for 15 years with The Vaughn Co. Del became a Christian at the age of 13 and served his Lord throughout his lifetime. He served as a choir director, Sunday school teacher, worked with youth, and served on several church boards. He taught a Bible study class at Hoffmantown through January 25 - two days before his recent illness. Del touched so many lives with his genuiness and kindness. JONES -- Hylan W. Jones, 81, loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2009. Hylan was born in Warren County, Kentucky to the union of Thomas and Myrtle Wilson. She has been a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico since 1956. Hylan is survived by her loving husband of 64 years James B. Jones; children Wayne Jones and his wife Judy, Mike Jones and his wife Michele, and Debbie Roth and her husband Pat, all of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren, Ron Jones and wife Darlene, Chris Jones and wife Susan, Matt Jones and wife Belinda, Colin Jones, Evan Jones, Kaylyn Roth, and Amy Roth; great-grandchildren, Rachel Jones, Ryan Jones, Kyle Jones, Kendall Jones, Keira Jones, Savannah Jones, and Rio Jones; brother, Oather Wilson and wife Shirley, of Bowling Green, KY, and her sister, Doris Holland and husband Howard, of Moses Lake, WA. LUJAN -- MaryJane Lujan April 24, 1952 - February 23, 2009 MaryJane was born in Albuquerque. She was raised in the North Valley. She graduated from Valley High School in 1970. MaryJane was very special and was loved by all who knew her. She leaves behind a grieving husband of 36 years Richard Lujan; their two sons Andres and Fabian; two brothers, Gregory and Arthur McCoy; and six very precious grandchildren. Also many family members. She was preceded in death by her brother Robert McCoy; her parents Andy and Jessie McCoy; and her sister Vangie Trujillo. Cremation has taken place. MAHLER -- Annelise Mahler, born May 2, 1920 passed away on February 21, 2009 after a brief illness. Ms. Mahler was born in Berend, a small village near Schleswig in northern Germany. She immigrated to the United States in 1953 and became a U. S. citizen in 1958. She resided in southern California for many years and moved to Albuquerque in the late 1990s. For the last 2 years, she lived at Princeton Place Nursing Center. She was preceded in death by her only daughter, Renate Mahler, who passed away in 2003. She is survived by her cousin, Frauke Holtorf of Flensburg, Germany; and her close friends in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, NM, Mark Parshall, Diane Lujan, and Mary Lou Sorenson. Visitation will be Sunday, March 1, 2009 from 2:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 3:00 p.m., Charlie Gallegos, reciter. Final visitation will be Monday, March 2, 2009 from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church, 5712 Paradise Blvd. NW, with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Father John Daniels, presider. SHELTON -- Bill J. Shelton, 83, a resident of Albuquerque and most recently of Los Ranchos De Albuquerque died at his home Wednesday, February 25, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Marian Shelton; daughter, Patricia Moxon (Trish), and husband, Bruce Moxon; grandsons, Blair Moxon and Drew Moxon; daughters Carla Decker and husband, Wayne Decker, daughter, Elizabeth Becker, and husband, John Becker; grandsons, Gregory Stewart, Robert Shouse, son, John Works and wife, Julie Works; grandsons, Preston Works, Tyler Works, son, Rob Works and wife, Stacy Works, and grandson, Calvin Works. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Love Shelton and Douglas Shelton; and his son, Douglas Lee Shelton. Bill was a charter member of the Four Hills Country Club and the Albuquerque Petroleum Club. He was an avid classic car enthusiast; he enjoyed boating, flying, and working on intricate projects with his hands. Bill strived for perfection in every project he faced, whether as a professional or hobbyist. He studied architecture with Lloyd Wright at the University of Southern California and received his Architectural Registration on November 11, 1963, from the State of New Mexico. Bill was a registered Architect in New Mexico, Texas and Colorado. He was known for his unique contemporary/Southwest design in both the residential and commercial sectors. His work throughout the Albuquerque area included multiple apartment complexes, office buildings and many custom homes. Bill started his own firm in Albuquerque and continued to operate that business until illness forced him to retire in 1993. Bill was a member of the First Congregational Church, 2801 Lomas Blvd. NE (Lomas and Girard). A Memorial Service will be held at the First Congregational, 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2009. Bill was afflicted with polio as a child and the March of Dimes was instrumental in assisting those impacted by this disease. VARGAS -- Refugio Vargas passed away Thursday, February 26, 2009 in Albuquerque at the age of 93. Mr. Vargas was a proud Army veteran and served during World War II. He is preceded in death by his wife, Francis "Kika" and is survived by his sons, Refugio Vargas Jr. and Frances, and Julian Vargas; daughters, Mary Lou Sandoval and Tom Sandoval, Yvette Vargas and Jose Aguilar, Rayette Vargas, and Lugardita Rhodes; brother, Alejandro Vargas; sister, Reina Jimenez and Santiago; and many many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A Rosary for Mr. Vargas will be recited on Sunday evening, March 1, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 2, 2009 also at St. Francis Xavier Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
