BERNAY -- Lynn Bernay, dancer, actor, artist, film costumer, and raconteur, died December 9, 2008 after a brief struggle with brain cancer. Lynn led a rich and colorful life full of professional achievements and the personal rewards of developing and nurturing numerous friends. Lynn was born in the Bronx, New York on August 18, 1931. In 1947, at the age of 16, she began a professional dance career as a Radio City Rockette, and went on to dance in Can Can and other musical hits on Broadway, as well as the movie adaptations of Guys and Dolls, The Pajama Game, and many more. She danced throughout the 50s and 60s in films such as Singing in the Rain, and the Alan Freed series of four movies, including Don't Knock the Rock, among others. Lynn also danced at the Copa Cabana, and in most well known TV variety shows of the period including the Ed Sullivan Show, the Milton Berle Show, and the Jackie Gleason Show. During this period Lynn acted in movies and on TV. Looking to re-invent herself, at the suggestion of Jack Nicholson on Drive, He Said, she shifted from performing to costume supervising and design. Lynn designed feature films including Untamed Heart, Home Alone, and Hearts of the West. As a member of the Local 480 (Film Union), she costumed TV movies in New Mexico. All who had the opportunity to work with her will remember Lynn as a bold, decisive, innovative and imaginative force. Her creativity, energy and zest for life made her seem, at times, larger than life. Many will also pay tribute to Lynn for her artwork. She was an accomplished painter, printmaker and mixed media artist. Her work often addressed social and political issues, and is included in collections at several Hilton Hotels, Mobil Oil Corporation, Cincinnati Airport, and Quail Run Development, in Santa Fe. Galleries in Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico represented her. Lynn served as a volunteer teaching art to children in South Africa; she brought solace to patients at the cancer center at St. Vincent's Hospital; and was a Big Sister. Lynn was an original. She had the mouth of a sailor, the soul of an artist, the face of an angel, the compassion of a saint, the courage of a lion, and a heart as big as the world. Milton Berle described her as, "one of the funniest woman I know,"-something her friends can attest to, as they recall rolling on the floor and convulsing with laughter at her humor. Lynn is survived by her sister, Carol Schwirck her brother-in-law Steve; niece Jessica Letson and husband Ben; grand-nieces Hope and Kelly Letson; and friends too numerous to mention. A Memorial Ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, December 21, 2008, at Santa Fe Center for Spiritual Living, 505 Camino de Los Marquez. An Open House will follow at Lynn's home. In lieu of flowers, kindly make donations to the non-profit, volunteer hospice organization: Coming Home Connection, Inc., 418 Cerrillos Road, Santa Fe, NM 87501

My hand is empty without your touch, but my heart is filled with the memories of us and how I love you so much. My Harley misses you so and not knowing one day we would have to let you go. It was like yesterday that we laughed and cried, but my Viv, I'll never forget you. I'll always have you deep inside. Your smile, your sweetness will live within me forever. After Richard retired from the military after 32 years of service, Doris and Dick joined the Mobile Missionary Assistance Program and traveled across the United States numerous times in their various motor homes building orphanages, churches and volunteering time and resources to help those in need. Doris was a member of The Zia Romers and The Good Sam Club, DAV 32, and she was a volunteer at the VA Hospital for years. To Doris, it mattered not what language you spoke, what color you were, or where you were from, you were always met coming and going with a vibrant hug, a big smile, a kind word and a plate of food and treats for others. She so loved people and had a propensity for helping others especially those in need, and children. Our precious mother, wife, and friend passed away December 18, 2008 peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by love and admiration for the woman she is and the exemplary life she lived. In lieu of flowers, please send any remembrance of Doris Saylor to Presbyterian Hospice Foundation, 8300 Constitution NE, 87110 for those in need without insurance. WRIGHT -- Meredith A. Wright passed away on December 14, 2008 in Austin, Texas at the age of 74. A long-time Albuquerque resident, Meredith passed away due to complications from a prolonged illness. Meredith was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1934. In 1960, she married Edward Wright and started a family in Naperville, Illinois. Meredith and her family moved to Albuquerque in 1960 to start a new business and a new life. She loved everything about New Mexico, the towering summer thunder clouds and intensely blue skies, the huevos at the Frontier Restaurant, the smell of pinon smoke in her fireplace, her church fellowship, and the rugged mountains. At any time of the year Meredith could be found actively enjoying her beloved Sandias or Sangre de Cristos. An avid skier, hiker, and devoted mother, Meredith was at the height of her happiness when she was out in the fresh air with her much loved sons. Son Brian Wright and his wife Laurie and children Morgan and Kyle live in Austin, Texas. Barry Wright and his wife Kathryn live in Seattle, Washington. She is also survived by Ed Wright, to whom she was married from 1960 to 1989 and maintained a caring relationship. A deeply spiritual person, her family is relieved that Meredith has been released from her earthly body and has moved on to a better place. She is certainly off doing something that she loves; swimming along a Florida shore while her father Lambert walks the beach beside her, playing tennis on a crisp New Mexico spring morning with Brian, pushing off down a powdery mogul filled slope with her friend Tina, or sleeping in on a cold morning with a young Barry nuzzled up to her back. Meredith will be deeply missed. A family memorial will take place somewhere in the mountains of New Mexico this summer. The family requests that donations be made in Meredith's memory to the Society for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (psp.org).
