NAVARRE -- Harry Navarre, D.M.D. Dr. Harry Navarre passed away a "boy of the Golden West," he was born in Alhambra, CA, on November 9, 1916, and was preceded in death by his mother, Rita Navarre and sister, Doris Gorka. Dr. Navarre was a child actor in the silent Our Gang comedies and Kid Kahn productions. A profound dislike for the acting profession, however, spawned his vow and childhood dream, "to become a doctor". Dr. Navarre attended the University of Southern California. He then continued his dental education at the University of Louisville (Kentucky) where he specialized in oral and maxillofacial surgery and later interned at Louisville General Hospital. To our community's credit, Dr. Navarre chose to reside and practice his profession under the clear, blue Albuquerque sky which was conducive to another passion, flying. After retirement from a long and successful career in 1984, he continued and enjoyed many hobbies including the love of flying his plane, Bellanca #8847 Romeo, one of several throughout his lifetime. An aficionado of the antique American automobile, Dr. Navarre was an active participant and venerated member of the Model T Ford Club of America and the Veteran Motor Car Club of America. Dr Navarre's professional associations include the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the International Association of Anesthesiologists, Delta Sigma Delta Fraternity, and a life member of both the American Dental Association and the New Mexico Dental Association. In addition, Dr. Navarre has served as Editor, Secretary and President of the Albuquerque District Dental Society. A man of principle and courage, Dr. Navarre contributed much to the health, well being and support of our community. He donated generously to the Presbyterian Health Care Foundation, the Albuquerque Museum of Art and History, the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra and to the Norwegian American Museum in Decorah, Iowa. Dr. Navarre is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Irene O'Connor Navarre. Together they enjoyed traveling to many parts of the world and especially in their private plane from Canada to Mexico and to all states throughout the USA. Dr. Navarre will be greatly missed by his loving wife, his nephews, Richard Jones and James Jones and their families in Minnesota, as well as his many friends and former patients. He will be especially missed by his long-time, exceptional care-giver, Clara Camp, whose attention and skill provided comfort and reassurance in his final days. Respecting Dr. Navarre's request, there will be a private interment in Granite Falls, MN. The family suggests memorial donations be made to the Presbyterian Health Care Foundation, PO Box 26666, Albuquerque, NM 87125.
