ARGUELLES -- Joaquin Arguelles, 83, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed peacefully on March 10, 2008. Joaquin was born on May 3, 1924 to Edmundo and Emma (Calderon) Arguelles of El Paso, TX. He graduated from the Texas College of Mines and was retired from the government as a civil engineer. He worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Army Corps of Engineers, and the Fish and Wildlife Department. Joaquin is survived by his loving wife, Maria Luisa (Loweree) Arguelles; their children, and spouses, Jake and Lisa, Maria and Miguel Mirabal, Rose and Dave White, Robert and Pat, Patrick and Angie, and John and Leslie; his grandchildren, Carlos, Juan, Joseph, Carmela, Heather, Robert, Heidi, Ryan, Holly, Francie, Becky, Stephen, Annalyse, Nico, Debbie, Michelle, Andre, and Dallas; his great-grandchildren, Travis, Jason Dean, Cody, Josh, Alex, Dennis, Erin, Rachel, Jake, Ashley, Mikayla, and Isaac; and will be remembered by numerous family and friends. Joaquin is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Edmundo Arguelles, Eduardo Arguelles, Emma Casterona, Aurora Villasenor and Fernando Arguelles. Joaquin relocated from El Paso to Albuquerque in 1961, and became a founding member of Holy Ghost Catholic Parish, and enjoyed long standing service with the Knights of Columbus and the Elks Lodge. He was actively involved with Boy Scout Troop #282, as well as organized a youth "Pee Wee" baseball league. He later became president of Zia Little League and was an athletic booster at St. Pius X High School. He was always very involved in the athletic endeavors of his children and grandchildren. A Visitation and Viewing will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2008 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with the Rosary to begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Daniels Family Funeral Services, 1100 Coal Ave. SE. Deacon Rene Greivel will lead the recitation of the Rosary. The celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 14, 2008 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 833 Arizona St. SE. Father Virgil Furfaro will preside over the mass. Pallbearers are Juan Mirabal, Bobby Arguelles, Ryan Arguelles, Stephen Arguelles, Nick Arguelles, Andre Arguelles, Jason Dean Richards, and Cody Cummings. (Honorary Pallbearers are all of Joaquin's grandchildren). Inurnment with full military honors will be held on Monday, March 17, 2008, 12:00 noon, at Fairview Memorial Cemetery. BAGWELL -- Betty Jean Bagwell, 70, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on March 8, 2008. Ms. Bagwell was born on September 19, 1937 to Percy Cope and Mae Isa (Craig) Bagwell of Albuquerque. Her career included serving as a school bus contractor for Albuquerque Public Schools. She is survived by her sisters, Gloria Mae Bagwell, June Lovitt, and Maxine Foil; her brothers, John Bagwell and Lee Rhodes; many nieces and nephews, including a very special niece, Robin Garcia and her husband, Andy; and dear friend, Millie Huff. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Pamela Dell Irish, and brothers, Robert G. Rhoades and Percy Craig Bagwell. CHAVEZ -- Adam Chavez, age 26, beloved son, father, and brother, went to be with the Lord, Sunday, March 9, 2008. He was resident of Albuquerque. Adam enjoyed being with his boys, riding his Harley and going to Red River on Bike Runs, and grilling during the Summer. He was preceded in death by a brother Angelo Chavez; maternal grandfather, Manuel Montano; and paternal grandfather, Willie Chavez. Adam is survived by his loving parents, Anna and William Chavez; his brother, Willie Chavez; his precious sons, Angelo, Andres and little Adam Chavez; special nieces, Mercedes Chavez; his maternal grandmother, Sophie Montano; paternal grandmother, Rose Chavez; and numerous other beloved family members and a host of friends. Adam will be greatly missed by all. A Rosary will be recited Friday at 8:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 1860 Griegos Rd., NW. GREEN -- Leona Mabel Green, 76, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2008, after a short illness. She was born in Standish, Michigan, and was married to Gardner "Bo" on October 18, 1952. In 1964 the family moved to Albuquerque, and in 2002, Leona and Bo moved to Bosque Farms. They enjoyed traveling in their motor home until his death in 2004. She worked in the Medical Library at UNM and retired in 1993. She enjoyed doing things with her family and friends and taking care of her home, flowers, and animals. Leona is survived by her children, Pam Dellinger, Doug Green and his wife, Pam, and Susan Coatney and her husband, Richard; her grandchildren, Jenny and Nicole Dellinger, Trisha Kacer and her husband, Rian, and Kristin Green; her brother, Charlie Demerau and his wife, Judy; her half-sister, Cheryl Badley and her husband, Richard; numerous nieces and nephews; and several other extended family and friends; and her devoted dog, Josie. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gardner Green, in 2004 and by her daughter, Sharon Green, in 2001. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at Bosque Farms Church of Christ on Saturday, March 15, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. with Bill Clark officiating. GUTIERREZ -- Antonio J. Gutierrez, 85, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2008. He is survived by his stepson, Patrick M. Drozda; grandson, Jason P. Drozda; great-granddaughter, Hayleigh Jo Drozda; niece, Patricia Moya (Cox) and family Melissa Cox, Christopher Cox; niece, Maria Moya-Keller; and nephews, Lorenzo Gutierrez III and Ricky Gutierrez. Tony was born in Santa Fe on May 10, 1922 to Lorenzo Gutierrez and Maria Alderete Gutierrez. His bothers were Lorenzo Gutierrez Jr., Marcelino Gutierrez, and his sisters were Rose G. Moya and Consuelo Moya. He graduated Santa Fe High School and then joined the Air Force as a photographer during both WWII and Korea. Tony retired from the Air Force in 1961. He returned to Albuquerque where he worked as a civilian photographer for the military. He was married to Jose who passed away in 1980. He loved to travel and has close friends around the world. He was also a member of AA with over 30 years to his credit. He led an active life and will be missed by many. Cremation has taken place and a Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, March 11, 2008 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Interment will be Wednesday, March 12, 2008 1:30 p.m., at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. The family wishes in lieu of flowers to please make donations to the Diabetes Association in his name.

GUTIERREZ -- NATHAN LOUIS PATRICK A Father's Dream- Nathan Louis Patrick Gutierrez (NATE DAWG), went on to be with the Lord, March 10, 2008, at age 23. Survived by girlfriend, Roxxanne Smith, and daughters, Kayla Ann Nate Gutierrez and Julianna Gutierrez; parents, Ronnie and Linda Gutierrez; sisters, Melissa and Tanya Gutierrez; brother-in-law, Gil Avila; nieces, Briannalysia and Alexandria Avila; grandparents, JosephineValdez and Rosalie Gutierrez. LUTIN -- Sallie Lutin passed away on March 6, 2008. Her parents, Gerald and Lula Lutin, precede her in death. She was born and raised in Colorado, graduating from Sterling High School. Ms. Lutin attended the University of New Mexico, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, and was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She worked at the Aquinas Newman Center for six years, taught school for a brief period of time, and then was employed at UNM for over thirty years. She enjoyed playing tennis, reading mystery novels, and spoiling her cat. Her cousins, Lee Ann Cook of Renton, WA, and Mary Lynn Wilson of Albuquerque, and their families survive her, as do many cherished friends. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2008, at 10:00 a.m., at the UNM Alumni Chapel, with the Reverend Marc Wilson, STM, officiating. Inurnment will be at the City of Sterling Riverside Cemetery at a later date. Contributions in Ms. Lutin's memory may be made to the Rio Grande Zoo, for the care and feeding of the large cats.

MOUNTAIN -- BEATRICE Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 15, 2008 for Bea Mountain, an almost 60 year resident of Belen. Mrs. Mountain, as many people called her, passed away March 11, 2008 at a Belen nursing home after an extended illness. Born January 21, 1912, in Kinsley, Kansas, Bea Lengel worked as a seamstress before her marriage to Samuel Fiske Mountain in 1936. Fiske and Bea met when Bea accompanied Fiske who was an accomplished violist. Bea was also an accomplished musician who played the pipe organ at Saint Paul's Lutheran Church in Wichita, Kansas, starting at the age of 16. Following their marriage, Bea and Fiske lived in Kansas until moving to the Raton and Springer area in the early 1940s. Bea and Fiske arrived in Belen in 1949 where he was the orchestra and bandleader for the Belen schools. Fiske passed away in 1969. Bea taught private piano lesson in her home for years, teaching hundreds of students who fondly remember her. In addition, Bea played at most of the churches in Belen as well as for the Belen Eastern Star, Masonic Lodge and Rainbow Girls. She was the Grand Organist for the State of New Mexico and also served as Worthy Matron for the Magdalena Eastern Star. She is survived by her children, Patricia Bullard and husband, Phil; Susan Myers and husband, Bruce; John Mountain and wife, Joy; Jeanne Abbott and husband, Jim; Samuel Mountain and wife, Sherri; and Nancy Huning and husband, Louis; 19 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Carolyn Pitts of Wichita; and one brother, Herbert Lengel of Glen Carbon, Illinois. A viewing will be held at the First Baptist Church of Los Chavez, on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Boyd Morerod officiating. Interment will follow at the Terrace Grove Cemetery in Belen Pallbearers will be Mike Buxton, Brian Lengel, Jason Mountain, Louie Huning, Jr., Adam Gonzalez and Clayton Stallings. PARRA -- Atenogenes (Teno) Estrada Parra, 88 years old, passed away on March 9, 2008 surrounded by his family. Born on April 18, 1919 in Morenci, AZ, Teno was a longtime resident of El Paso, TX. A loving husband and father, he spent the last 13 years with his wife and family in Albuquerque, NM. He was preceded in death by his parents, Castulo Parra and Petra Estrada de Parra; and his only brother, Antonio Estrada Parra. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Carmen Cardenas de Parra; and his six sons: Mario Atenogenes Parra and wife, Dora, Raul Parra and wife, Patricia, Ruben Armando Parra and wife, Cynthia, Rick Parra and wife, Nidia, Benjamin Parra and wife, Caroline, and Rene Parra and wife, Melinda; grandchildren, Monica and husband, Billy Strickland, Mario Parra Jr., Georgina and husband, Juan Cordova, Denise Parra and Brian Arnold, Gabrielle Parra, and Tosha Walter; Adrian Parra, Diana and husband, Brandon Awtrey, Alexandria Parra, and Robert Parra, Cristina Parra and Aaron Parra, Gabriel Parra, Marissa Parra, Ryan Parra, and Madison Parra; great-grandchildren, Juan Cordova Jr. and Marcus Altamirano. Teno retired from Southern Pacific Railroad after 39 years. He was a decorated war hero who served his country honorably during WWII in the battles of Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, and North Appennines. As a result of his courageous service, he was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon and three Bronze Stars. As the family patriarch, he was a strong and supportive father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who encouraged his sons in their successes in life. He will be dearly missed, but his legacy of strength and family values will live on through his sons. POYNTER -- Herbert M. Poynter, Lt. Col. U.S.A.F (Ret.), age 79, of Albuquerque passed away peacefully on Friday, March 7, 2008, at a local hospital. He was born on January 16, 1929, in Clarksburg, WV, to Henson and Nellie Poynter. He married Retha Savage on September 23, 1950, in Clarksburg, WV. She preceded him in death on March 9, 1996, after 45 years of marriage. Mr. Poynter was a pilot and instructor during the Korean Conflict and The Vietnam War. He was stationed with Strategic Air Command Headquarters, Omaha, NE, where he retired after 23 years of devoted service to his country then located to Albuquerque in 1977 as the franchisee of Godfather's Pizza in New Mexico and West Texas. During his retirement, he returned to his passion of flight and founded the Lobo Squadron of the Commemorative Air Force Albuquerque. Surviving is his second wife, Ann Bazan Poynter, of Albuquerque whom he married on August 2, 1997. Also surviving are his daughters, Teresa A. Vierregger and her husband, Roger, of Springfield, NE, Susan A. Meline and her husband, Mike, of Albuquerque; sons, Steven G. Poynter and his wife, Kim, of Albuquerque, Gregory A. Poynter and his wife, Vicky, of Livingston, TX; grandchildren, Mikayla Vierregger and Alyssa Vierregger, Madeline Settle and Cameron Settle, Grant Meline, Jason Poynter, Chrissy Poynter, Angie Poynter, Cede Lindley and Ryne Lindley; brother, Robert Poynter and his wife, Ellen, of Pensacola, FL; as well a numerous friends and family. He was preceded in death by his sister, Madeline Poynter; brothers, Noel and Drexel Poynter. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 15, 2008, at John XXIII Catholic Community, 4831 Tramway Ridge Dr. NE. A Scripture Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 14, 2008, at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. Interment will take place on Monday, March 17, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery with Full Military Honors. REED -- Patrick Donovan Reed, was born October 2, 1959, and died March 8, 2008 in his sleep. He lived in Corrales throughout his life. Patrick was a kind and gentle person. He suffered from Paranoid Schizophrenia for 30 years. He had a Framer Contractors License in the early 1980s, and also worked for Sal and Dave Fresquez at the Farmers Feed Store for 15 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles J. Reed. He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth; and siblings Tim, Dan, Tom, Margaret and Joe. A viewing will take place in the family home on Thursday, March 13, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary at family home to follow at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 14, 2008 at San Ysidro Church in Corrales, with interment to follow at San Ysidro Parrish Cemetery. ROBERTS -- John Roberts, 88, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2008. John was born in Osceola, Missouri on January 16, 1920 to John H. Roberts and deceased Mother. He served his county proudly in the U.S. Navy. John was preceded in death by his son, Melvin Roberts of Albuquerque. He is survived by his loving wife, Helen; his children, Gary Roberts of Arlington, TX and Roger Roberts of Bosque Farms, NM. John is also survived by nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He will be greatly missed by his loving family. SANCHEZ -- Filomena (Phyllis) Sanchez, 59, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on March 11, 2008. Mrs. Sanchez is survived by her beloved husband of thirty-four years, Valente; four children, Teresa McCurry and husband, Chris, Isabel Sanchez and Christian Smith, Victoria Gonzales, Vanessa Armijo; her mother, Adela Armijo; her brothers, Joe Armijo and Rick Armijo; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Phyllis was preceded in death by her father, Florencio Armijo; her brother Gilbert Armijo; and grandfather, Damacio Saiz. Phyllis was a member of the Catholic Church and a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. She worked for the State of NM and retired in 2000 and was a graduate of Rio Grande High, Class of 1966. Visitation will be Thursday, March 13, 2008, from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Rick Narro, at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna NW. WHITING -- Warren G. "Fritz" Whiting, 85, passed away at his home in Las Cruces, NM, on March 8, 2008. Warren was born in St. Johns, Arizona, as was his wife. During the Second World War, he served with the Navy in the Pacific on the submarine U.S.S. Pogy as a Radar Technician. He graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from the California Institute of Technology in 1950. Warren joined the Reynolds Metals Company as a plant engineer, working in Richmond, Va., for 34 years, building and operating extrusion plants there and throughout the country. After retirement, he relocated to Albuquerque, N.M. for 18 years, and then moved to Las Cruces one year ago. He was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team, an avid carpenter, an amateur brewer of root beer, and a frequent patron of Chuck E. Cheese with his grandchildren. Warren was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served his church in many capacities, including twice as a Bishop in Virginia, and then as a sealer for six years in the Albuquerque, New Mexico Temple. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Eloise Udall Whiting; children, Bruce (Linda) Whiting of St Louis, MO, Colleen McCall (Chand) Bhasker of Amarillo, TX, Marilyn (Russ, deceased) Parker of Ogden, UT, Douglas (Dee) Whiting of Carlsbad, CA, and Karen (David) Heiner of Las Cruces NM; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; and one surviving sister, Verna Mae Bean of Lindon, UT. A Memorial Service will be held at the LDS Chapel, 2915 E. Idaho Ave, Las Cruces, on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Bishop John Call of the Mesilla Valley Ward will conduct.
