Obituary for WHITING

Warren G. "Fritz" Whiting, 85, passed away at his home in Las Cruces, NM, on March 8, 2008. Warren was born in St. Johns, Arizona, as was his wife. During the Second World War, he served with the Navy in the Pacific on the submarine U.S.S. Pogy as a Radar Technician. He graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from the California Institute of Technology in 1950. Warren joined the Reynolds Metals Company as a plant engineer, working in Richmond, Va., for 34 years, building and operating extrusion plants there and throughout the country. After retirement, he relocated to Albuquerque, N.M. for 18 years, and then moved to Las Cruces one year ago. He was a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team, an avid carpenter, an amateur brewer of root beer, and a frequent patron of Chuck E. Cheese with his grandchildren. Warren was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served his church in many capacities, including twice as a Bishop in Virginia, and then as a sealer for six years in the Albuquerque, New Mexico Temple. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Eloise Udall Whiting; children, Bruce (Linda) Whiting of St Louis, MO, Colleen McCall (Chand) Bhasker of Amarillo, TX, Marilyn (Russ, deceased) Parker of Ogden, UT, Douglas (Dee) Whiting of Carlsbad, CA, and Karen (David) Heiner of Las Cruces NM; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; and one surviving sister, Verna Mae Bean of Lindon, UT. A Memorial Service will be held at the LDS Chapel, 2915 E. Idaho Ave, Las Cruces, on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Bishop John Call of the Mesilla Valley Ward will conduct. Friends may visit one hour prior to the Service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Mesilla Valley Hospice, Inc., 299 E.
