APODACA -- Celina Apodaca, 86, died peacefully at home, September 1, 2007. She is survived by her husband, Esequiel Apodaca; children, Luis Richard Apodaca, and wife, Lois, Tomas Apodaca and wife, Christine; Mary Archuleta and husband, Bobby, Frank Apodaca and wife, Pam, Rita Perea and husband, Felipe, Steve Apodaca and wife, Bernice, Laura Hake and husband, Lew, Ramona Apodaca and husband, John Owen, Joe Apodaca and wife, Lissa, and Phillip Apodaca and wife, Yvette; 37 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; and brother Louis Mora. Celina lived a full life, celebrating it with her large family. Celina was known for her great love of children and her kind acts towards others. She grew up in Escobosa, NM where she met and married her loving husband of 66 years. They moved to Albuquerque to raise their family. She was greatly loved and admired by her children and will be greatly missed. She was a strong presence in the lives of those she touched. A Rosary for Celina will be recited Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at San Jose de Los Duranes Church. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at San Jose de Los Duranes. Interment will follow at The Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Daniel Apodaca, Leonard Apodaca, Philippe Perea, Ryan Apodaca, Nick Apodaca, and Dominic Cordova. ARMIJO -- Santiago Armijo (Jimmy), 91. Our beloved father and grandfather, Santiago Armijo, died on September 1, 2007. He was born on July 16, 1916, to Pedro and Magdalena Armijo in Bosquecito, New Mexico, one of eleven children. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Sally Vigil Armijo, in 2001, and nine of his siblings. He is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Alvie and Tommy Torres, Stella and Ernie Lujan, and Michelle and Paul Lucero. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and their families, James and Deanna Torres and their daughter, Donielle; Tim and Michelle Torres and their daughters, Brittani, Ciera and Sivana; Paul and Sally Torres Pena and their children, Joshua, Cambria and Jerick; Charles and Tonette Torres Martinez and their children, Briana, Nicholas, Dominic and Joseph, James and Tammy Torres Cox and their son Zane, Elicia Lujan, Lucas and Stacey Lujan and their son, Aiden, Christopher Lucero and his sons, Aeneas and Matias, Marisa Lucero, and Adam Lucero. He is also survived by sister, Lucy Silva (Los Angeles); sisters-in-law, Rose Vigil Baca (Las Vegas, NV) and Margie Vigil Herrera; and brother-in-law, Lawrence Vigil; and numerous nephews and nieces. Santiago was retired from the U.S. Post Office. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church where he ushered at the 9:00 a.m. Mass every Sunday for over 40 years. After Sally's death, he moved to Encino Terrace where he enjoyed many new friendships and served on the Resident Council. We were blessed to have him as our father and grandfather. He was loving, kind, and devoted; he will be greatly missed. A Rosary for Santiago will be recited, Tuesday, September 4, 2007, at 7:00 p.m. at Salazar & Sons Mortuary. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, September 5, 2007, at 10:45 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his five grandsons: James Torres, Tim Torres, Lucas Lujan, Chris Lucero and Adam Lucero and great grandson Josh Pena. BROPHY -- Edward Joseph Brophy Jr., 71, a resident of Albuquerque since 1989 passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2007. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Frances Kay Brophy; children, Marta Schindel, Laurie Roan and Edie Baley; grandchildren, Krissa Schindel, Cassie Roan, Johnathan Roan, and Jason Davis; and brother, James "Jay" Brophy-Ellison. Mr. Brophy had a passion for tennis, serving as the Assistant Director for the Lobo Tennis Club. After retiring from the US Army, Ed worked for the Social Security Administration in Albuquerque. CHAVEZ -- Cleotilde S. Mrs. Cleotilde (Tillie) S. Chavez, 65, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on August 31, 2007 and is now in Heaven with our Lord. Mrs. Chavez is the beloved wife to Mr. Asencion (Johnnie) P. Chavez , married for 47 years. Mrs. Chavez is also survived by five children, David Chavez and wife, Maryellan, Clara Gomez and husband, David, Lorie Leyba and husband, Steven, John Chavez and Rozanne Perea, Sandra Casaus and Jim Perez; four sisters, Sally Sena, Dorothy Cannon, Viola Sena, Lucy Ortiz and husband, Gilbert; three brothers, Ernest Sena Jr. and wife, Rita, Ted Sena and wife, Gloria, Henry Sena and wife, Vickie; nine grandchildren, Angel, Miguel, Delilah, Chanel, John Jr., Stephanie, Ozzy, Joseph, and Rocky; one great grandson, Angel and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Chavez was preceded in death by her parents, Ernesto and Elena Sena and a granddaughter, Samantha. Mrs. Chavez was a member of the Catholic Church. Visitation for Mrs. Chavez will be Tuesday evening in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. by Father Bill Sanchez. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning at 9:00 a.m. at St. Edwin Catholic Church, 2105 Barcelona SW , by Father Bill Sanchez. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary. Pallbearers will be David Montoya, Joseph Chavez, Miguel Leyba, Ted Sena, David Gomez, Steven Leyba, John Chavez Jr., and Ozzy Chavez. Honorary pallbearer will be Andrew Marquez. DUMAS -- H.M. "Brick" died Saturday, September 1, 2007 of kidney cancer. He is survived by his wife, Pat of 54 years and by his son, H. Scott, a professor and research mathematician at the University of Cincinnati and at research institutes in Europe. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Marjorie Buckley-Hucke of Fayetteville, AR, and by his nephews, Steven Buckley of Huntsville, AL, David Buckley of Fayetteville, AR, and Carie Buckley of Staunton, VA, all three of whom are medical doctors. Brick was born December 16, 1927 in El Dorado, AR, the only child of Emma and Herbert Monroe Dumas. After graduating from El Dorado High School, where he was Senior Class President, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served three years at sea. He then enrolled at the University of Arkansas, where he earned two degrees and belonged to Sigma Xi and Phi Beta Kappa scholastic fraternities and Kappa Sigma social fraternity. Following their marriage, Pat and Brick moved to Albuquerque in 1956 so that Brick could begin work at Sandia National Labs. He continued his career there until he retired in 1992, and always described his work managing Sandia's satellite programs as "the best job in the world." Memorial Services with Rev. Clyde Stanfield officiating will be held at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd., NE, on Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to St. John's United Methodist Church, 2626 Arizona St., NE 87110. EVANGEL -- Effie Evangel, 85, died Wednesday, August 29, 2007. She was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, her parents, Angelo and Isodia Leonidas who emigrated from Triglia, a town on the Sea of Mamara, in Turkey. Effie graduated from the University of Alberta. She and her mother moved to Vancouver after Angelo's death. She later moved to Los Angeles. Effie re-met Chris Evangel at an Order of Ahepa convention. Chris had previously met her during WWII when he was working on the Alcan Highway for the U.S. Army. He proposed and they were married. They moved to his home in Albuquerque. Chris passed away in 1982. Effie was active in the Daughters of Penelope and St. George Greek Orthodox Church. She served in many capacities as officer, president and festival chairwoman. During these years she made many close friendships in the Albuquerque Greek community. Effie will be remembered for her force of character, hard work, the care she gave to family and friends, her ability with crafts and painting. The Trisagion will be Monday, September 3, 2007, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. NE. The Funeral will be held Tuesday, September 4, 2007, 11:00 a.m., at St George Greek Orthodox Church, 308 High St SE. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery. HOWELL -- W. Michael (Mike) of Albuquerque, passed away on August 31, 2007 at the age of 67 from cancer followed by a stroke. He was born in Clovis, NM, and grew up in Carlsbad, NM, the son of Wymon and May Howell. Upon graduation from Carlsbad High School, he entered the Air Force and was stationed at Walker Base in Roswell, NM. Just out of basic training, he married Janeene Flowers of Carlsbad, his high school sweetheart and ultimate companion of 49 years. Mike was a graduate of Texas Tech University. He was an accountant/office manager for Continental Divide Electric Coop. in Grants, NM, and later for Stewart Brothers Drilling Company in Milan, NM. He became interested in real estate appraising and moved to Albuquerque in 1982 to pursue that career. After working for various banks, he began a career with the U.S. Dept. of Fish and Wildlife and retired from the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers in 2005. He is survived by his wife Jan; daughter Shari Lambson and husband, Dane of Ramah, NM; son Scott Howell and wife, Susan of Albuquerque; twelve grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. He was actively involved with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 12701 Indian School Road, NE, where funeral services will be held on Monday, Sep. 3, 2007, at 1:00 p.m.. Viewing will be at 12:00 p.m.. Burial will be held at the Ramah Cemetery in Ramah, NM. The family expresses thanks to nurses at Kaseman Hospital Hospice Unit for their tender care.
