HOOKER -- Toyoko Hooker, my wife and the love of my life, entered into fullness of joy in Christ Jesus to behold our God, face to face, on Wednesday, August 1, 2007. Born in Japan, Toyoko was the daughter of Tokuhei Oikawa and Sueyo Oikawa, both deceased. She was preceded in death by a brother Tomio Oikawa, but is survived by her beloved sister and brother-in-law, respectively, Shizue Iki and Bumpei Iki also of Japan, and Jane Brown, her sister-in-law, of North Carolina. We were married August 15, 1959. Toyoko came with me to the United States and soon fell in love with this country and its people. Ruth 1:16 Ruth said, "Entreat me not to leave you or to return from following you; for where you go I will go, and where you live I will live; your people shall be my people, and your God my God; where you die I will die, and there will I be buried. May the LORD do so to me and more also if even death parts me from you." Toyoko studied American History, and on her final exam for American citizenship 17 years ago she missed only one question-something about the United Nations! That day was one of the proudest days of her life. Scripture has always been the Good News of Jesus Christ to both Toyoko and to me. These words have long been precious to us and I pray they be Good News to you, dear reader: The First Letter of the Apostle Paul to the Thessalonians 5:9-11 "For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through Our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us so that whether we be awake or asleep we might live with Him. Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing." Cremation has taken place; Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 8:30 a.m., Friday, August 10, 2007 at Our Lady of the Annunciation Church, Claremont and Vermont Streets, with Rev. Bennett J. Voorhies, Pastor of Our Lady of Annunciation celebrating and Fr. Leo Padget, Pastor of St. Ann's Parish, Tucumcari, NM, con-celebrating. In lieu of flowers, Toyoko and I ask that any memorial gifts be a contribution to the Alzheimer's Association, New Mexico Chapter, 9500 Montgomery NE, Suite #209, Albuquerque, 87111 with a note "in Memory of Toyoko Hooker". I want to thank Betty Kuehne, Alzheimer's Assoc. Program Director, who gently advised, encouraged, and ministered to me. Finally, I thank my Lord and God for Toyoko and our 48 years together. To Toyoko, you are and have been the love of my life--thank you. I miss you beyond words. At the same time I rejoice that you are seeing Him face to face. With overwhelming love, Tom Hooker.
