MILLER -- GEORGE JAMES It is my sad duty to report that George James Miller has passed away after a prolonged illness. He was born on February 9, 1927 in Tracey, Minnesota to Jenny Trout and Fred Miller. He was a resident of Albuquerque for many years, working as a drill sergeant in the Army. When not serving on base, he enjoyed the great outdoors in any and every locale he was stationed at. He was a member of the Toastmasters Club, attended UNM where he obtained a degree in Education, served as a volunteer groundskeeper for the church his wife and two children attended, was an avid rockhound, and botanist, served as a Cub Scout leader and greatly enjoyed the menagerie of stray animals his two children brought home. George loved to scuba dive, first diving in Pearl Harbor to recover unexploded munitions, and later transferring his love of underwater exploration to the deserts oases of the southwest. He dove in major waterway and lake in NM, finally making a trip to the saltwater filled volcanoes in Zuni. His final years were spent near the ocean in Florida. He once wrestled a ten-foot alligator to save the life of a duck. He left this world early on December 24, 2007. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Joy and his son, Guy. He is survived by one daughter and two grandchildren and many, many kind friends. For a dirt poor farm boy from Minnesota, who joined the Army to see the world, he was spectacularly successful. He is and always will be missed.
