GONZALES -- Serafin Gonzales Sr., 90 a resident of La Madera, La Guapa, and Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away Monday September 17, 2007 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was born in La Ghuapa, New Mexico to Eutimio and Margarita Gonzales on December 28, 1916. He is survived by his wife, Ciria Gonzales of 71 years; and his children, Feda Chavarirra and her husband, Carlos of Albuquerque, Gennie Aragon and Gilbert of Albuquerque, Helen Aragon of Albuquerque, Mary and her husband, Walter of Albuquerque, Larry Gonzales and Mary of La Madera, Gloria Vella and her husband, Lou of Nebraska, Tina and her husband, Greg of Rio Rancho, Tony and his wife, Dina of Albuquerque, Connie and her husband, Juan of Tucumcari, Servie Jr. and his wife, Geri of La Madera and Paul Gonzales of La Madera. Serafin is also survived by his brother, Juan Gonzales of La Ghuapa; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren; and his special friends, Mark De Frate and his "Primo". He was preceded in death by his parents, Eutimio and Margarita Gonzales of La Ghuapa, New Mexico; son, Juanito Gonzales; and brothers and sisters. Serafin grew up in La Ghuapa and La Madera area Serafin and Ciria raised their children in Albuquerque and on the ranch in La Ghuapa , he was a hard worker on the ranch, he also held a job as a dump truck owner/operator. Serafin was a very loving father to his children, he renewed his vows to his wife for their 50th and 65th wedding anniversaries, he devoted his whole life to his wife and children and their families. In La Madera area there was never a stranger that he would not stop to help. He was loved by all whom new and loved him and will be missed very much by his family and friends. Serafin will lie in state Wednesday September 19, 2007 at the Harris- Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A Rosary will be recited that evening at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Catholic Church in Tijeras, NM. A Celebration of Mass will be held Thursday September 20,2007 at Holy Child Catholic Church in Tijeras, NM at 10:00 a.m. with Father Mark Granito officiating. Interment will follow at La Madera Cemetery in La Madera, NM. Pallbearers are George Gallegos, Donald Sanchez, John Aragon, Antonio Gonzales, Johnny Quintana, and Josh Resner. Honorary Pallbearers will be Karen Preston, Sandy Castillo and Danny Salazar.
