ALDERETE -- Andrew J. Alderete, 77, passed away at home Sunday, May 27, 2007, with his family at his side. Mr. Alderete is survived by his wife of 29 years, Graciela; children, Andrew Michael Alderete, Robert Mark Alderete, Mary Ann Hillary, Dorothy Denson and Carmen Alderete; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Alderete-Felt and Clorinda Garcia; and many other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marcelino and Soledad. Mr. Alderete served his country in the US Navy retiring after 30 years and was very active in numerous veterans organizations, the Optimist Club, and several other organizations. BEHL -- Joseph Behl joined our Holy Father on Sunday, May 27, 2007. He was born in Philadelphia, PA on June 18, 1918. Joe attended LaSalle College High School and UNM. He served in the US Navy during World War II as a Navy pilot aboard USS Hornet and was awarded many medals and awards including the Navy Cross. Joe will be remembered by his family and friends for his humor and storytelling. Joe's passions were baseball, golf, music, and travel. He was a pitcher in the Texas League Champion (Dodgers) and coach (Dodgers) and with other teams. Joe was the owner of the Red Lion Restaurant, a popular hangout of Lobo fans and Albuquerque Duke Fans. He will be truly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Harriet. His family includes, Chris and Nancy Behl and Colin Behl; Patty and Thom Fischer and Bryan Attwood, Clint Attwood, and Leah Attwood; Vicki Behl, Janet Behl, Dennis and Anne Behl, Kelly Puritt, Robin Farran, and great-grandchild, Price Pruitt; Patrick and Judy Murphy, Jane Landseadel, and Robert Landseadel IV; nephews from Philadelphia, John Behl and Jerry Behl; and Zorro (Zork). BREWER -- LaVerne Herbst Brewer, 80, lost her long battle with cancer May 23, 2007. LaVerne was born August 29, 1926, in Houston, Texas, to Eddie and Vera Herbst. She graduated from Denver University where she was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. She married Lial W. Brewer on June 13, 1949 in Fairfax, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lial and all her siblings: Charles Herbst, Edward Herbst, and Yvonne Carleno. LaVerne is survived by her three children and six grandchildren: Linda and Kerry Barton, and their sons, Cameron and Tyler; Steve and Catherine Brewer, and their daughters, Leslie-Anne and Sarah; Michael and Kathy Brewer, and their children, Jaclyn (and husband, Jade) and Shaun. LaVerne was not only an amazing mother and grandmother but a teacher, medical technologist, and Realtor. She touched so many lives in her eighty years. She taught at Denver University and the University of New Mexico. She worked as a medical technologist in Denver, Salt Lake City, Cincinnati, Ohio and Albuquerque. She got her real estate license in 1977. After Lial retired in 1983 they moved to Ruidoso, NM. LaVerne excelled as a Realtor in Ruidoso by catering to people drawn to the beauty of mountains. After Lial's death in 1997 she decided to move back to Albuquerque to be near her family. She shared many good times with her children and friends during those years back in Albuquerque and did Volunteer work for many organizations. She was an inspiration even to strangers she met. Her belief was as long as you can laugh life is worth living. Her family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Hromas, Jan, and especially to all the wonderful nurses who cared for LaVerne with such compassion. She will be dearly missed by many. She always thought of others before herself, therefore, her family requests that her friends make a donation in her name to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 3411 Candelaria NE, Albuquerque, NM 87107. CHAVEZ -- Rudolfo (Rudy) Chavez, 75, passed away at his home in Santa Fe, NM, May 25, 2007. He was preceded in death by his brother, Isaac Chavez and sister, Sarah Turnbull. Rudy is survived by seven children, 21 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, a sister Connie and husband Fred Allen, also Margie Chavez, a sister-in-law. Rudy served in the Korean War and was awarded two Bronze Stars. Rudy was a skilled musician, he studied voice and instruments in Mexico, he also was a wood worker and talented in making harps, guitars and various other instruments. Rudy was well known in Santa Fe for his playing the trumpet and the Mariachi Gavilanes. Rudy designed his Mariachi outfits. Viewing from 5:00pm-7:00 pm, Wednesday, May 30, 2007, followed by Rosary at Berardinelli Funeral Services. COLLIER -- Betty June Collier passed away May 24, 2007 in Houston, TX. Betty was born in Oklahoma City, OK. She moved to Abq. with her husband William D. Collier (Bill) in 1946. They moved to Houston in 2006. An avid Bridge player her entire life, Betty was a Life Master Bridge player.She taught and directed Bridge for many years. Betty was known for her many artistic talents and her beautiful laugh. She was a long time member of the Cosmopolitan Women's Club, Tanoan Country Club, and a volunteer at the UNM Hospital. Betty is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Bill Collier; their daughter Candace Collier and her husband, Gary C. Freeman, M.D., Houston, TX; brothers Ray and Paul, and numerous nieces and nephews in Oklahoma.

DONOGHUE -- David Carl Donoghue was born in Albuquerque on September 1, 1950 and passed away on May 24, 2007 at the age of 56. David resided in the North Valley most of his life, but most recently shared a home in Rio Rancho with his niece, Shannon Yeary. David is survived by his two daughters, Sarah, who is currently living in Durango, CO and Erin, who with her husband, Kristopher Mong, are serving in the Army at Fort Knox, KY; his six siblings, Norma Capeci of Springfield, MO, Michael Donoghue of Cedar Crest, NM, Elaine Yeary of Albuquerque, NM, Edwin Donoghue of Belen, NM, Margaret Fretwell of Durango, CO and Joan Kolbush of Albuquerque, NM. David is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Gene Donoghue and his two brothers, Charles and Gene Donoghue. During his life, he was quite active in church activities. David was extraordinary in many ways and had a great intellectual capacity. His forte was history and current affairs, exhibiting an uncanny memory for dates, events and details. He was articulate and a pleasure to converse with. Those who knew him intimately loved him. Family and friends will always cherish his memory. David's remains will be cremated. A token will be sprinkled on his mother's and father's graves, with the remainder scattered over specified areas in Ireland, his ancestral homeland. With David's death the family chain has been severed anew, but there is promise of a grand reunion, when the circle will be forged again forever. There will be no more partings then. EATON -- Kathleen, 67, of Albuquerque, passed away on Friday, May 25, 2007. Preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Grace Mosher; sister, Peggy Allen. Kathy is survived by her husband, Norman; her children, William Mosher, Teresa Hope, Tina Brown, Timothy Eaton and Toni Rhine; her stepchildren, Sharon, Daryl and Glenn Eaton; 22 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and siblings, Edwin Mosher and Beverly Roe. The Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at Charity Baptist Church, 5501 Obregon Rd, Rio Rancho, NM 87144. Kathy attended TVI where she got a degree in accounting. She was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society and was awarded the International Scholarship on 11-06-92 for graduating at the top of her class. She was honored that day by Gov. Gary Johnson. She worked with the VITA Program since 1993. She loved helping people with their taxes. She was disappointed that her health caused her to miss the last tax season. GALLEGOS -- Della Gallegos peacefully entered the Lord's Kingdom on May 27, 2007. Della was born on December 12, 1926 in Trinidad, CO to J. C. and Dolores Valdez. She is survived by one son, Ernest Gallegos and Anna Martin; three daughters, Marcella Gallegos and Robert Farris, Teri Jinzo and Shawn Hester, and Connie and Danny Gallegos; 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; two sisters and three brothers. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Samuel Gallegos; daughter, Carla Salazar; granddaughters, Dominique and Michelle Gallegos; two sisters, and one brother. A life long resident of Albuquerque, Della retired from Siemens after many years of faithful service. She was a very loving and caring mother and will be deeply missed. GRAY -- Dorothy Mae Gray, 81, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Thursday, May 24, 2007 in Prescott, AZ. She is survived by her son, Larry D. Gray and wife, Linda of Phoenix, AZ; daughter, Kathy Nelson and husband, Jeff of Palm Bay, FL; grandson, Larry D. Gray Jr. and wife, Kathleen of Surprise, AZ; granddaughter, Michelle Houston of Peoria, AZ; grandson, David Nelson of Tallahassee, FL; and granddaughter, Kathryn Nelson of Gainesville, FL; brother, James Bowen of Bellevue, MI; and sister, Libbie Farley of Indianapolis, IN. Dorothy is also survived by her second love, John Geibel and his family, who brought joy and happiness into her life the past 19 years. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, L.D. "Dee" Gray. Dorothy was a businesswoman who took over the family business when Dee went to work at Kirtland Air Force base. After the business was sold, Dorothy was cherished by working mothers as she took care of the babies at the Kirtland Air Force Base Childcare Center for almost twenty years. Her skills and love for children was recognized with numerous awards and by grateful parents. Dee and Dorothy were instrumental in the successful move of the AA Heights Club. JAMES -- Betty Forsythe James, a resident of Albuquerque for more than fifty years, died on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, 2007. She was 92. Betty grew up on Priest Lake, in the wilderness of Northern Idaho, where her father was a foreman for the Diamond Match Company. There she became a champion long-distance swimmer and also discovered her life-long love of books and the English language. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Washington State University where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Betty returned to Priest Lake after graduation where she met and married a young aerial photographer, Jack G. James. When Jack volunteered for the U.S. Army Air Corps at the outbreak of World War II, and was stationed in the China-Burma-India theater, Betty and Jack agreed that she should leave the home they had built in Spokane, and return with their young children to Priest Lake. There, for the duration of the war, she raised her daughters in the mountains and woods that she loved and in the familiarity of the lumber camps where she herself had grown up. Betty was a formidable poker player and an accomplished deer hunter. She gained more local fame when she defended her home by shooting a black bear set on pillaging the provisions laid in for the winter in the root cellar dug into hillside behind her cabin home on the lake. Betty was in every sense a pioneer woman, an outdoors woman, an athlete and an equestrian, whose first career was that of an Air Force wife, moving with her husband and children through many homes, and many military aerial reconnaissance assignments, before arriving in Albuquerque in 1953 where Jack served with the Weapons Effects Test Division, Defense Atomic Support Agency. By the time of his retirement in 1964, Albuquerque had become a permanent home for the family. Their two daughters attended Highland High School and completed their college educations in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. Their son graduated from New Mexico Military Institute at Roswell and the University of New Mexico. Betty always, everywhere, had friends, delighted by her vitality, her intellect, and a spontaneous sense of humor. For many years in Albuquerque she was an energetic leader of a Girl Scout equestrian troop and kept her own horse "Chico" at the Four Hills stables. She returned to her first love, teaching, as the children grew up. She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she volunteered in the church library. After Jack's death in 1981, Betty continued her love of travel, including an early trip to China as it opened up to Western visitors. She was a prolific diarist and photographer of the places and people she visited. The last two years of an adventuresome life were comfortable and peaceful in Betty's residence at the Laurel Skies Healthcare Center in Albuquerque. She was mentally alert, always happy, and adaptive to a gradual loss of physical strength, but never at a loss for a well-turned phrase or a humorous comment. Betty is survived by two daughters and a son: Ann James Paden of Bernalillo, New Mexico, Beth James Nicholson of Troy, New York, and Michael Forsythe James, of Houston, Texas. Her much-loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren are John Audu Paden, Amy Paden Yendrek, Michael Ford Nicholson, and Jennifer Nicholson Keneston; and their children, Olivia Paden, Erik Paden, Sophia Paden, and Shae Yendrek. The family extends all measure of gratitude to the administrators and, especially, the staff at Laurel Skies for their love and care for Betty, and to the Hospice of the Sandias for every caring service to her and to us in the last months. Memorial Services for the family will be held at a later date when cremated remains, as Betty wished, will be interred with those of her husband, Jack on a hillside at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

LUCERO -- Carmen Galvan Lucero, 69, a resident of Los Alamos since 1978, passed away on Saturday, May 26, 2007 after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesus and Maria Galvan; brothers, Phillip and Tony Galvan and sister, Cruzita Valenzuela. Carmen was a career employee with the Federal Government. In her early career, she served as a Secretary for the Forest Service in Albuquerque and for the US Air Force at Wright Patterson AFB in Ohio. She retired from the Department of Energy in 1994 after serving as a Legal Secretary and as the Area Manager's Secretary. In her retirement, Carmen enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling and volunteering at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, the Knights of Columbus Ladies' Auxiliary and the RSVP Quilters of Los Alamos. Her legacy is a love of life, family and faith and she will be greatly missed by all. Carmen is survived by her husband of 46 years, Donald Lucero; daughters. Laura Lucero of Albuquerque, Julie and Brad Merhege of Phoenix, Arizona, Amy Lucero of Manassas, Virginia, Linda and Allen Matteson of Los Alamos. and Karen and Jerry Lucero of Los Alamos; grandchildren, Kevin, Kyle, and Lindsay Merhege, Glenna, Nate and Isabelle Matteson, Emily and Maria Lucero, Natawnee and Reyna Huckabee; sisters, Becky Chavira of Las Cruces, Juanita Romero of El Paso, and Susie Maldonado of Albuquerque; brothers, Elias Galvan of Pasadena, California and Joe Galvan of Las Cruces; and numerous other family and friends. MARTIN -- Thomas "Tom" Cody Martin, 58, passed away peacefully at the family home on Monday, May 28, 2007 after a long battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Peggy; brothers, Jamie and Paul Martin; sisters, Francine Gibson and husband, Mike, and Betty Jo Trammell; wonderful nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins, and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Susie Martin. Tom owned Martin Painting Company in Albuquerque for 25 years before retiring to Lemitar, NM where he built a retirement home and lived for six years before recently relocating. The family would like to thank Dr. James Schneider and his staff for their wonderful loving care of Tom. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held Saturday, June 2, 2007, 1:00 p.m., at the family home. MIRABAL -- Adeline A. Mirabal, a native of Albuquerque, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2007. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Joe E. Mirabal; children, Rudolph Barncastle and wife, Pam, LeRoy Barncastle, of Santa Barbara, CA, Irene Cox, and husband, Miller Dean, Lorraine Verhest and husband, Joe; stepsons, John and Stan Mirabal and wife, Mary; brothers, James Armijo and wife, Lily, Orlando Armijo and wife, Madelyn; sister, Fita Salas; grandchildren, Lynn, and John Barncastle, Marlene Baum and husband, Steve, Christopher Barncastle, Tammy Oberholtzer, David Sanchez and wife, Lisa, and Darren Sanchez, Dean and Deanne Cox, and Desiree Pepin and husband, Mike; 20 great-grandchildren; and several other extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John B. Barncastle and brothers, Victor and Salvador Armijo. Adeline lived life with zeal and enjoyed everything beautiful that it had to offer. MONTANO -- Jerold G. Montano, 41, died suddenly from a massive heart attack, Friday, May 25, 2007. Jerold was born in Taos, NM on April 5, 1966 to Joe and Betsy Montano. He is survived by his son, Trevor Joseph Montano of Oak Park, CA. Mr. Montano lived in California until a year ago, so he could be near his son growing up. He is also survived by his parents and his brothers, Richard Montano and wife, Pam and Chuck Montano and wife, Martha; and his nephews and nieces, Ava Grace Montano, Bryce Montano, Micalene Cleavinger, Tori Montano and Seth. Special acknowledgement to Joshua Montano and Jessica Montano, his nephew and niece, who did everything they could to keep him with us, Thank you! MOORE -- Marjorie S. Moore. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico at 3:00 p.m. for Marjorie S. Moore. Marjorie died Monday, May 28, 2007 at Mission Arch Care Center in Roswell. Marjorie was born on November 19, 1918 in Sedalia, Missouri to Adolf and Vivian Rosson Shwartz. She was married to James M. Moore who preceded her in death. Marjorie was employed as a clerk for the Civil Service and after her retirement she worked for H & R Block. She was an avid bridge player and also loved to travel and play golf. She also helped low income families and seniors to prepare their tax returns. Marjorie attended the Gateway Church. She is survived by her son, Jim Moore and his wife, Elise; granddaughter, Marina Moore, all of Roswell; one sister, Betty Bencsis of Rio Rancho, NM; and one nephew, Bob Murray and his wife Pat of Santa Fe, NM. Marjore had lived in Roswell since 1975, moving here from Albuquerque. Arrangements have been entrusted to Ballard Funeral Home and Crematory. MUNIZ -- Agnes J. Muniz, 93, passed on at home Monday, May 28, 2007, with her family at her side. Mrs. Muniz was preceded in death by her loving husband of 82 years Perfecto L. Muniz. She is survived by one brother, Tony Jaramillo of Albuquerque, and daughters; Margarita Phillips and husband, John of Perkinston, MS, Martha Lowe and husband George H. of Huntsville, AR, Mary C. Sautner of Albuquerque, Rosemary R. Gordon and husband Wally of Los Angeles, CA; 23 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren. She was a very loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother that will be deeply missed. PREBER -- Gregory Justin Preber. On May 21, 2007, Gregory Justin Preber, age 44, beloved son of Mary B. Preber and brother of Bradley J. Preber, passed away to join his heavenly Father, our Lord, and his earthly father, Walter James Preber. Greg was born on May 27, 1961, in Phoenix, AZ. He was raised in Albuquerque, NM, and lived the last 17 years in S. Lake Tahoe, NV. Greg deeply loved his children and he had a passion for handiwork and fishing. He is survived by his daughter Adrienne Biles, age 26, and her child Gabrianna, age 2, of Hazen, ND; his daughter Leticia, age 24, and her daughter Ashlynn, age 4, of Oregon; his son Michael, age 21, of Medford, OR; and his mother, Mary B. QUINTANA -- John C. Quintana, 75, was called to be with our Lord Sunday May 20, 2007 after many years of battling with Parkinson's Disease. Surrounded by his loving wife Lucarita Griego-Quintana, and their children Dennis, Robert, Leroy, Anthony, Michael, Nicolas and Anna Lou. John had 14 grandchildren and one angel, Katherine Rameriz; sister, Carmen Lucero; brothers, Joe, Henry, and Ray Quintana. Preceded in death: parents, Guadalupe and Maria Quintana and Esmael and Anna Maria Griego. He left behind nephews, nieces, primos, primas, amigos, amigas and compadres. He loved life, loved people young and old. He was born in Llanito north of Bernalillo. He was a Veteran and served in Korea, later moved to Herperia, California. Services will be held on Friday June 1, 2007 in Victorville, CA at Desert View Memorial Park.

RAMIREZ -- IGNACIO JR. Mr. Ignacio "Nash" Ramirez Jr. went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 26, 2007 at the age of 68 after a brief bout with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ignacio Ramirez Sr. and Manuela Ramirez and one son, Ignacio Ramirez III. He is survived by his wife, Merline Ramirez; three children, Elaine Benitez and husband, Ramon, Cecelia Tapia, and Cynthia Gurule and husband, Michael; a grandson whom he raised, Anthony Gutierrez; two brothers; 11 sisters; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family. Visitations will be held on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. in the mortuary chapel. A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. at Daniels Family Funeral Services-Garcia Mortuary in the Eighth Street Chapel. TERWILLIGER -- Anna Mae Terwilliger passed away peacefully March 7, 2007. She was born in Parsons, KS, December 13, 1911. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 1/2 years, A. Richard (Dick) Terwilliger; her parents, Ethel and John Gabriel; and her sister, Emogene Chrisman. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Wormeli and husband, Paul of Reston, VA; her daughter, Martha Meister and husband, David of Albuquerque; her grandsons, Richard Wormeli and wife, Kelly of Herndon, VA, Benjamin Wormeli and wife, Natalie of Davis, CA, John Meister and wife, Margaret of Albuquerque, James Meister and wife, Christina of Germantown, MD; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Lynn Wormeli, Laurel and Jake Meister, and Nadia and Helena Meister. Anna Mae taught in a one room country schoolhouse for three years. Married on July 23, 1936, Anna Mae and Dick moved to Santa Fe, where Dick taught at the Allison-James Presbyterian Mission School. Their life continued to Drexel, MO and Urbana, IL from 1940 until 1947, when the family moved back to Albuquerque, NM. Anna Mae has lived her last 13 years at Manzano Del Sol Good Samaritan Village, where she had many good friends and loving care. Church and family were the guiding forces in Anna Mae's life. She was a loving, supportive wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church for 60 years. There she served as a Deacon for several years and was Chairperson of the Deacon Board. She also was a member of Mariners and the Women's Association. Anna Mae participated in Eastern Star for many years, and was a member of the Masonic Widows after Dick's death. She delivered Meals on Wheels in Northeast Albuquerque for over 20 years. Anna Mae loved to play Bridge and Bingo. She crocheted afghans for her daughters, and was always interested in the lives of her family members. The family wishes to thank the staff at Manzano Del Sol and Evercare for the loving care of our mother, especially these past two years. WINDHAM -- J. Robert "Tex" Windham, 85, a resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, May 26, 2007. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Windham of the family home; son, Don Windham and wife, Jeanne; daughter, Louise Payne and husband, Roger; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Betty Aves and a brother-in-law, Rev. J. Noble Atkins. Mr. Windham served his country during WWII by serving in the U.S. Navy.
