COOPER -- William Robert "Bill" "Coop" Cooper, 79, passed away peacefully at his home on January 3, 2006. Bill was born in Toronto, Kansas on May 26, 1926. In 1952, while moving his family from Kansas to California, his infant son, Kevin, fell sick and had to be hospitalized in Albuquerque. To provide for his family during their stay in New Mexico, Bill took a temporary job at American Furniture. After a day or two of work Bill discovered he had found his calling. Soon he opened his own carpet business, selling by day and installing by night. Over 40 years Bill built his business, House of Carpets, into New Mexico's largest flooring retailer with eight statewide locations and over 200 employees. Bill is survived by his wife, Nancy, who lovingly cared for him everyday; his sons, Kerry and Kevin and Kevin's wife, Kelli; and five grandchildren: Jeff, Joanna, Casey, Corey, and Dixie.
