BROWN -- Harold "Pete" Brown, age 98, of Albuquerque, died Friday, October 14, 2005 at a local nursing home. He is survived by his daughter, Beverly Bernitsky and husband, Anthony of Albuquerque, NM; son-in-law, Donald Anderson of El Paso, TX.; grandchildren, Doctors David and wife, Gay Bernitsky, Ann and husband, Steve Beddingfield all of Albuquerque, NM; Judy Campos and husband, Col. Mario Campos of San Antonio, TX.; Bill Anderson of El Paso, TX.; Bob Anderson and wife, Adriana of El Paso, TX. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, Will, Alex, and Laura Bernitsky; Carly and Michael Beddingfield; Maryann and Mario, Jr. Campos. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene Brown; daughter, Sandra Anderson; and grandson, Steven Bernitsky. Mr. Brown managed movie theaters in Albuquerque and was also employed by the Albuquerque Publishing Company. He was a lifetime member of the Elks Club and a member of Central United Methodist Church. He loved sports and was an avid Lobo fan. Graveside Service will be held at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menual NE, 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, October 20, 2005. BRUMMELL -- Joe Brummell passed away at his home October 14, 2005. He was born March 8, 1930 in Albuquerque, NM to Leo Edward Brummell and Elizabeth Dilorenzo Brummell. He attended Kemper Military School in Boonville, Missouri where he was state wrestling champion and was a stand out football player. He graduated in 1948. He attended the University of Missouri and graduated with a degree in business administration. He married Helen Atkinson on June 12th of that year, then served one and a half years in Korea, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and other service related medals. On returning from military duty, Joe attended the University of Wyoming and graduated with a degree in Geology. The family moved to New Mexico where Joe owned the Road Runner Travel Traveler Sales for 30 years before retiring to his home at Cedar Crest, New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo Edward Brummell and Elizabeth Dilorenzo Brummell and his stepmother Delia Brummell. Joe is survived by Helen; his son, Ed and his wife, Lorraine; daughters, Elizabeth, Susan and her husband, Kevin, Holly and her husband, Matt; brothers, Bob, Jerry and his wife, Pauline, Bernard and his wife, Jeanne; 10 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and 10 nieces and nephews. Joe was a member of the American Legion Post # 49, Korean Veterans Association and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. A private memorial rosary and mass will be held. Joe will be laid to rest in the Valley View Cemetery in Torrington, Wyoming. BUSTAMANTE -- Bonifacio M. Bustamante, 68, a resident of Albuquerque since 1986, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2005. Bonifacio was born June 4, 1937 the son of Conception and Magdalena Martinez Bustamante in Hatch, NM. He was retired from the New Mexico Highway Department. He played guitar music, it was his life. Boni was known for his music. He is survived by his wife, Theresa A. Bustamante of the family home; son, Tony R. Bustamante; daughter, Angela Michelle Bustamante Chapman; beloved son-in-law, Gary Chapman all of Santa Fe; three brothers, Valentine, Larry,and Cesario Bustamante; four sisters, Gloria Tarin, Priscilla Jeremiah, Dominica Marquez, and Evangeline Casaus. A Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 16, 2005 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Family Room at Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho. COBLE -- H. Eugene Coble, 86, a resident of Albuquerque for 65 years, was born August 25, 1919, and died Friday, October 14, 2005. Mr. Coble is survived by many loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dera D. Coble. Mr. Coble was a member of the Elks Club, American Legion and the Lions Club. He was a well-respected farmer of the South Valley Community. DRESSER -- Billie Dresser, age 60, a resident of Tijeras, NM, died Thursday, October 13, 2005 at Presbyterian Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Larry J. Dresser of Tijeras, NM; two sons, Eric Peterson and wife, Stephanie of Albuquerque, NM and Christopher Peterson of Idaho; grandchildren, Taylor Peterson of Albuquerque, NM and Gage Peterson of Idaho; stepsons, Darren Dresser of Seattle, WA and Bryan Dresser of Osan, Korea. HOWARD -- Madeline M. Howard, age 76, a resident of Albuquerque for the past 16 years, and a former resident of California, Texas, and Utah, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2005 in Presbyterian Hospital. Born in Utah on February 2, 1929, she was the only child of Harold and Helen Mosley. Madeline spent most of her young life and school years in El Paso, Texas. She is preceded in death by her husband John B. Howard whom she married on March 22, 1952, and her parents. Madeline was a life time member of Harmony Chapter #244, Order of the Eastern Star, El Paso Texas. JOHNSON -- Anne H. Johnson, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2005. Anne was born on May 1, 1913 in Fayetteville, TN. She grew up in Huntsville, AL. After high school she graduated from the University of Tennessee-Memphis with a degree in nursing. She married Hensley S. Johnson, M.D. on February 18, 1940. Her husband was serving on active duty in the US Army. Her next twenty years were spent as a military wife, mother, homemaker, and school nurse. During this period of time her family lived on various military posts including overseas in Japan, Austria and Germany. After her husband's retirement from the Army her family moved to Albuquerque in 1961 where her husband went into medical practice with his brother. Anne had a real gift for hospitality and made everyone feel welcome. Her home was always a haven for her friends and neighbors. She was a real people person. Her hobbies were reading, collecting cook books and cooking. She enjoyed baking cakes, pies and cookies and delivering them to her friends. Anne knew all of her friend's birthdays and what their favorite foods were. She loved going to the farmer's market, buying fruits and vegetables, and sharing them with friends. Anne had a wonderful sense of humor, a happy and gregarious personality, and a beautiful smile. She was a devoted wife and loving mom. Anne was a Christian and she lived out her faith by being kind to everyone. She truly believed it was more blessed to give than to receive. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Carole Ernst and husband, Larry of Albuquerque; sister, Midge Clisson of Huntsville, AL; and numerous nieces and nephews. Anne was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Dr. Hensley S. Johnson, a son, Stephen Johnson, and brothers James B. Hopper and Charles E. Hopper. KENNEDY -- M. L. "Ken" Kennedy died unexpectedly at home, at the age of 79, on October 13, 2005. Ken was a retired General Contractor and built many houses in and around the Los Lunas area. He was known for the quality of his workmanship. He is survived by his wife, Coralie "Cody" Kennedy; daughter, Gay Lea Fotheringham (Dean); and sons, Gary (Becky), Steven (Dorene), and Terry (fiancee Sarah Youtz); 17 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Nyla Joy Guernsey (Arden); and numerous nieces and nephews. Ken loved his family and was beloved by them. He liked to fish and travel. He loved people and never knew a stranger. After his retirement he passed around his "business cards" to everyone he met. They were amusing and gave people a laugh. His services will be held in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Los Lunas on James Street at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 18, 2005. LEWIS -- Warren Chancellor Lewis died Wednesday, October 12, in Albuquerque, exactly two weeks short of his 90th birthday. Born in Cape Girardeau, MO, he was the second of five children of Walter Glen and Ethel May Macurdy Lewis. He attended the University of Nebraska Medical School and practiced Internal Medicine, with special interests in cardiology and improving nursing-home care. Later in his career, he became active in forensic psychiatry, performing mental examinations for the judicial system. The great themes of his life were natural history, science, and music. He applied a tenacious curiosity to observations of birds and bats, orchids and decorative bulbs, and wind and weather. "Doc" Lewis was the author of over 60 papers on cave-science subjects, such as cave-associated illnesses and air movement in caves. In 1999 he was awarded the National Speleological Society's President's Award for Contributions to Speleology. Up until his death, he was actively reading in issues as diverse and challenging as clear-air turbulence and the basic structures of the universe. Through the years, Dr. Lewis sang baritone in 23 choirs and choruses, and he played double bass in the Rockford (IL) Symphony Orchestra for 35 years. After moving to Albuquerque, he played with the Symphony of Albuquerque, the Rio Grande Symphony, and the Hoffmantown Church Orchestra. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Seitz Lewis; and a large family of four children (Wendy Orley, Kathryn Parmentier, Roger Lewis, and David Lewis); three stepchildren (Judith Groves, Tom Lathrop, and Janet Fischer); 15 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. In addition, he leaves his brothers, Glen and Fred Lewis; and his sister, Patricia Lewis. MCCROSSEN -- Preston G. McCrossen, 72, died Saturday night October 15, 2005. Born May 12, 1933 in Detroit, Michigan, but raised in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Preston graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1951 and from the University of New Mexico in 1955. After starting out as a chemist in the labs at Los Alamos, Preston's long and active career included establishing Albuqerque's Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, serving as a Peace Corps Director in the Kingdom of Tonga, and working as a consultant to many Native American development agencies. MCELROY -- Richard Stafford McElroy, Captain, U.S. Navy (Ret.), died on Saturday, October 15, 2005. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen Wilson McElroy; two sons, Lt. Comdr. Richard S. McElroy III, U.S. Navy (Ret), of Port Orchard, Washington and Jeffery W. McElroy of Danville, California; granddaughter, Diedra McElroy Hanere of Lathrop, California; and a great-granddaughter, Victoria Jones. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1939 and MIT in 1947. During WWII he served in the carrier U.S.S. Intrepid in the Pacific. He served three tours at the U.S. Naval Air Test Center, first as test pilot and finally as Director of the Weapons Test Division. Cremation has taken place and in accordance with the wishes of the deceased, there will be no memorial service. Interment will take place in the Santa Fe National Cemetery. MONTOYA -- Abran Montoya went to be with our Father in Heaven on October 13, 2005. He served in the U.S. Army and was a carpenter by trade. He loved the Lord and reading the Bible. He always made sure to pray for his family and friends. He also encouraged education to all his family. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Olivia Gonzales; son, Julian Montoya; Mother and Father, Terecita and Ricardo Montoya; and his brothers, Joe Montoya, Orlando Montoya, and Bonifacio Montoya. MUELLER -- Lt. Col. William C. "Willie" Mueller (USAF Ret), passed away Thursday, October 13, 2005. Willie was born June 29, 1940 to June and Carl Mueller, in Madison, WI. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1958 through 1988 having been a navigator, electronics warfare officer, Auditor, and Air Operations Commander with AFOTEC at Kirtland AFB. He was a loving father, grandfather, and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by a daughter, Amy Stanbury and husband, Andrew; a son, Sgt. MURRAY -- James E. Murray, III, age 66 of Albuquerque, NM, passed peacefully on October 13. As a decorated Vietnam veteran, he retired from the Air Force as a Captain. In his civilian life, he took pride in his volunteer work with Meals on Wheels and at the Albuquerque Botanic Gardens, where he could be found running the miniature trains. He will be remembered for his ability to bring a smile to the face of everyone he met. ROBINSON -- Dixie Lee (Skidmore) - Born on January 8th, 1931 in Beaver City, Oklahoma, passed away in her home in Los Lunas, NM on Saturday, October 15, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family. Dixie was 74 years old. Dixie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charley Robinson; four brothers; and her parents. She is survived by her five daughters, Tanis Harbers and husband, David of Albuquerque; Kathryn Day and her husband, Loyd of Gallup; Johnell Horner and her husband, Ted of Las Cruces; Dixie Lowe and her husband, Michael of Albuquerque and Shawn Gray and her partner, Vincent of Alto. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren, Tecia Baretinicich, Sharalee Rae Hudson, Lance Major, Aldis Bettis, Dixie Turner, Jason Horner, Charley Willis, Justin Gray and Jerrad Gray; and her twenty four great-grandchildren. STRABA -- Margaret King Straba, Registered Nurse (RN), 86, passed away on October 14, 2005, after open heart surgery at a local hospital, with her husband of 58 years at her side. She was born July 6, 1919, in Owosso, MI, the only daughter of Charles Oscar King and Christine Seiss. Margaret will be remembered for her contributions to Vocational Education in Nursing and for her strength, inspiration, humor, and lively personality. She was always the "life of the party". She started her career in Nursing in 1938 as one of the first nurse's aides at Owosso Memorial Hospital, in Owosso, MI, followed by her three years at St. Mary's School of Nursing, in Saginaw, MI. During WWII she was a Civilian Cadet Nurse Supervisor at Providence Hospital, Detroit, MI. After the war, she returned to her hometown and worked as a surgical nurse at the Owosso Memorial Hospital. She was a Charter Member of Toastmistress Chapter in Saginaw, MI, where she was president. As an active member of the NM State Vocational Association she designed the first medical slogan for the NM State High Schools in the 1970's. During that time she supervised the first class of Licensed Practical Nurse's (LPN) at the Albuquerque Veterans Hospital. Later she was the Clinical Supervisor of the Career Enrichment Center Career Ladder for nurses' aides at TVI. She also enjoyed her employment at the UNM Student Health Center, and volunteered with the TVI GED and Second Language Program. Nogales, Arizona was the setting of her marriage to Robert J. Straba, who was then attending the University of Arizona. Accompanying them at their marriage was bridesmaid Doris and bestman Alex Capitan of Green Valley, AZ. They have made their home in Albuquerque for the past 45 years. They are the parents of one son, James, who is currently working as an Advisor for the Iraq Reconstruction Management Team in Baghdad, and four daughters, Martha, Dorothy, Lori, and Rosemary (whom are all nurses in Albuquerque). She is survived by generations of beautiful children, including 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. One might say her motto was "Make em laugh, make em laugh!" Margaret's Patron Saint Theresa said, "I will spend my heaven doing good on earth." A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 18, at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 619 Copper Ave., NW. In lieu of flowers, Do Something Good for Someone Else.
