BACA -- Josefita G. Baca August 16, 1915 August 26, 2005 Mama: We have missed you these past six years. It seems we just celebrated your birthday and you were surrounded by many of those who loved you, your sons and daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. In the blink of an eye you were gone. You passed over to where we will meet one day. We miss your wisdom, your sayings, your way of being the center of our family. We miss you terribly. We are not the same family without you. We no longer have the unifying grace of your presence. Each day we see or hear you in some reflection or in the way we repeat your words as we try to be the kind of parent you were to our children. Mama, we will always love you and remember you. We will pass on your love to our families as you passed your love to us. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM! Con mucho amor tus hijos y hijas: Santos, Ben, Rupe, Robert, Lelo, Jenny, Paul, Patsy, Maxine, Chris, Isaac and the family you helped create and nurture.

STOUT -- Lila Stout died August 12, 2005, in Albuquerque at the age of 87. Lila possessed a unique combination of extraordinary talent with immense generosity and good humor. She was blessed with numerous special relationships among family, friends, students and caregivers. She embraced life with love, laughter, and song - and endured life's tragedies with dignity and faith. Lila was a marvelous musician, a concert pianist and vocalist, who loved teaching her skills to others as well as performing. She taught music and French to thousands of students, and directed theatrical productions for many more. She was proud to have played for President Harry Truman who asked to be introduced to Lila, "the lady playing the organ," at the church he was visiting. With her husband, Burr, Lila enjoyed traveling the fifty states and Europe, always happy to return home to New Mexico. Here she gathered many items of Native jewelry, each with its own interesting story, which she loved to tell. She also was a voracious reader and played a superior game of Scrabble with friends. Though Lila retired from teaching, no grandchild could enter grandma's home without leaving with a little education about music or traveling - plus a piece of German Chocolate cake! She developed special friends at her last home, La Vida Llena Retirement Community, where she received special care. As her physical skills lessened, Lila's wit and humor kept her strong and kept others safe in the knowledge of her goodness and courage. Lila was born January 30, 1918, in Martha, OK, the daughter of Marvin and Iotus Hosmer. She received her Bachelor of Arts and Teaching degree in 1939, at Oklahoma State Teachers College, and her Master's Degree of Music Education in 1963 at Eastern New Mexico University. She worked in public education for thirty-six years. Lila most recently assisted in the direction of two productions at First United Methodist Church in Albuquerque, where she was a member. She was a long-time member of P.E.O. and worked with numerous community organizations, including the Community Concert Association, the Community Little Theater, and the Girl Scouts of America. Lila was predeceased by Joel B. Stout, Jr., her oldest son, in 1990; and Joel Burr Stout, her husband of fifty-five years, in 1995. She was also predeceased in death by one grandchild and one great-grandchild. Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn Hutton, of Albuquerque, and husband, Patrick; son, Michael Stout, and wife, Marci Beyer, of Las Cruces; daughter-in-law, Patricia Anders, of Tucson, AZ; grandchildren, Karen Stout, Joel T. Stout, Paul Anders-Stout, Jeffrey Page, Jill Moore, Livia Beyer-Bache, Elijah Burr Stout, Deborah Hale, Joe Hutton; and ten great-grandchildren. She is loved by many and is sorely missed. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, August 16, 2005 at First United Methodist Church, 314 Lead SW, in Albuquerque, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. David Okerberg officiating. Pallbearers for the private burial are Jeffrey Page, Karen Stout, Lindel Thomason, Steve Hale, Joe Hutton, and Gary Damron. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Achen, Larry Brown, Roland Cleveland, Deb Greenberg, Randy Moore, Jim Page, Gretchen Shipley, Elijah Stout, Paul Anders-Stout ,and Chuck Thompson.
