ARELLANES -- Marie A. (Montoya) Arellanes. January 26, 1930 - September 11, 2004. Marie is survived by her loving husband, Joe F. Arellanes, her companion in marriage for 59 years. Joe lovingly cared for "his best friend" in her time of illness. He's our HERO! Marie is survived by 3 sons, Joseph A. Arellanes, Richard F. Arellanes and wife, Dorothy, Robert J. Arellanes and wife, JoAnn; daughters, D. Theresa Rivera, Barbara M. E. Salas and husband, Lawrence, Janice T. Pick and husband, Raymond, Donna M. Duran and husband, Julius, Jerilyn A. Arellanes (a.k.a. Anne McDonald) and 22 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Just a few days prior to her death, Marie was professed in the Third Order of Carmelites receiving the name Marie Arellanes of the Holy Eucharist and St. Therese. Marie was a very devout catholic and was a member of the Blue Army and Altar Rosary Society. She was a very compassionate person who prayed for all. Marie was a very intelligent and talented artist who did many beautiful paintings in her lifetime but didn't brag about it. She was a great person in her simplicity. The family would like to thank Fr. Anthony Bolman, Fr. Johnny Lee Chavez, Fr. Fernando Rubio-Boitel and the Deacons from Queen of Heaven Parish. We would also like to thank Dr. Dorf and all those at Albuquerque Regional Hospital who provided excellent care for her. We also thank Fr. Anthony Pick, a family member, who traveled from Iowa to celebrate the Mass. Cremation has taken place and services are pending. BACA -- Helen Marie Baca, 58, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away on September 11, 2004. She is survived by her husband, Michael J. Baca; daughter, Angela Romero and husband, Kevin; son, Jesse Chavez; daughter, Alice Romero and husband, Chris, all of Albuquerque; five grandchildren, Michael, Vanessa, Clarissa, Anjelica, and Destiny; one great-grandchild, Michael Moody, Jr.; mother, Lucy Duran; sister, Angela Bolagh and husband, Joe; brothers-in-law, Steven Baca and wife, Gabrielle, and Paul M. C'DeBaca; sisters-in-law, Rose M. Baca, Julia A. C'DeBaca, Yolanda M. Herrera and husband, Jose and Ermalinda C'DeBaca; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Rudy Duran. She will be missed dearly by all her family and friends. Service times are pending. Interment will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. DIAZ-STRANDBERG -- Elizabethe "Eli" Diaz-Strandberg, born on Sept. 6 1959 passed away on Sept. 10 2004. She battled cancer for several years but could suffer no longer. She passed in peace with her family and friends at her side. She was the ultimate free spirited soul and an infamous practical joker. She loved to see new places and embrace other cultures. She always looked for the joy in new experiences. She was very respected and loved by her friends and her coworkers in the field of medicine and the community. She is best remembered for the dedication and love she gave to her four beautiful sons. She is survived by her sons Ysaac, Abram, Diego, and Saim. She is preceded in death in loving memory by her grandfather, Joseph Berzin. She is also survived by her grandmother, Juanita Berzin; father, Gilbert Strandberg; mother, Barbara Mielneczik; sister, Susan Weeks; brothers, Steve and Scott Strandberg; nephew, Adam Weeks and wife April Weeks, niece Charity Alcouffe and husband Matthew Alcouffe; and nephews, Joseph and Ryan and Steven Strandberg. DUGGAN -- Gerald "Jerry" Duggan, 75, a resident of Albuquerque since 1968, died Thursday, September 9, 2004 after a brief illness. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Vicky Duggan of Albuquerque; son, David Duggan and wife, Ruth; daughters, Debbie Ward, Janice Duggan, and Judy Baca and husband, Michael, all of Albuquerque; sons, Jeff Duggan and wife, Kris of Lancaster, CA and Richard Duggan and wife, Tracy of La Mesa, NM; 10 grandchildren, Kathy, Kristina, Jennifer, Jessica, Jaime, Tori, Matthew, Erin, Marcus, and Joseph; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Joseph Duggan and Thomas Duggan, both of St. Louis, MO; and sister, Ida McDevitt of St. Louis, MO. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. His lifelong passion and career was camera repair. When he wasn't working for companies like Pentax, he owned and operated his own repair business. His love of baseball and the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team led him to volunteer for many years to the Thunderbird Little League and the Babe Ruth League in Albuquerque. His association with those leagues continued even after his sons had finished with the leagues. He was always very proud of his children and grandchildren and was constantly heard bragging about them. His last journey was one of a student as he had gone back to school to become an accountant. He was very proud of the fact that he could still learn new things. Cremation has taken place and a wake service will be held Monday, September 13, 2004; 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, September 14, 2004, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, Lomas at Tennessee NE, with Father Edward C. Domme, Celebrant. GOODRICH -- Elizabeth Goodrich, a long time resident of Albuquerque, passed away on September 11, 2004. She is preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Franklin Goodrich, in 1979. She is survived by her son Mike Goodrich and wife Kim of Albuquerque; one sister Kathleen Gorman and husband Jack, of Albuquerque; one brother John McErlain, of New York; her brother-in-law, Mack Goodrich of Arizona; sister-in-law, Peggy Pascoll. She is also survived by her two "very loved granddaughters", Sarah and Sidney Goodrich. HALE -- William E. Hale, 88, passed away early Friday, September 10, 2004. Born in Oklahoma on July 22, 1916, "Bill" lived most of his life in New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia and sister Bess. William E. Hale is survived by three sons, William M. "Dusty" and wife Nan, David L. and wife Becky, and Stephen D. and wife Debi; five grandchildren, Eric Hale and wife Elsie Hale, Mindy Hale and partner Pamela, Cassie and husband Travis Stuart, Jenifer Hale and Krista Hale; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, David Hale and wife Betty of Santa Fe, and a sister Jean and husband Wesley Wilcox of Illinois. Bill Hale worked for the US Geological Survey and traveled much during his career. After retiring he liked to stay in touch with fellow workers and to visit the work sites of his sons. HUNTER -- Elmer T. Hunter, 88, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Saturday, September 11, 2004. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Edith E. Hunter of Albuquerque; sons, John Dale Hunter and companion, Susan Hood, James Dennis Hunter and wife, Sandra, and George David Hunter, all of Albuquerque; ten grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Hunter and wife, Florence of Albuquerque, and Cecil Hunter and wife, Mattie of Sun City, AZ; step-brother, Jack Beckner of Orangeville, CA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Delbert; granddaughter, Denise Hayslip; and sister, Velma Schultz. Elmer was an avid beekeeper, and enjoyed gardening and spending time with his sons and grandchildren. He retired from the Boiler Makers Union in 1980. KENNEDY -- Rene Rose. Our Lord Jesus came and softly carried our beloved Rene Rose Kennedy through the golden gates into the wonderful land beyond with Him and all our loved ones there on Saturday, September 11, 2004. Lorene Rose "Rene" Kennedy was born on January 20, 1923 in Oklahoma. She was a teacher, accountant and junior engineer and was a missionary in Nigeria several years ago. Mrs. Kennedy served as pastor's wife at Stanley Union Church in Stanley, NM for 10 years as well as at several other churches in Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Colquitt A. Kennedy of Albuquerque; daughter, Marilyn K. Levine of Albuquerque; sons, Dr. Criswell A. Kennedy and wife, Shirley of Spokane, WA and John D. Kennedy and wife, Kay of Albuquerque; 6 grandchildren, one of whom preceded her in death; sisters, Dorothy L. Rimes of Savannah, GA and Lola Mae Jackson of Drumright, OK. WIEST -- David A. Wiest, 83, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Friday, September 10, 2004. **David was born in Reading, PA on September 24, 1920 to the late Emma and Luther Wiest. He is survived by his wife, Opal; his two sons, Randy Wiest and his wife, Linda, Paul Wiest and his wife, Rose; three granddaughters, Michelle Brannan and husband, Leo, Kimberly Wiest-Sanchez and husband, Calvin Sanchez and Pamela Wiest; one grandson, Joshua Wiest; along with one great-grandson, Dylan Wiest-Sanchez; and Opal's daughter, Rita Duazat. Mr. Wiest came to New Mexico with the US Army in 1944 and eventually settled here and married Mary Jean Steidley. He worked for and later owned the Steidley Insurance Agency in Albuquerque. After 50 years, he retired in November, 2002 when his health wouldn't allow him to work any longer. Mr. Wiest was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church and later of Central United Methodist Church. He was a board member of the Albuquerque Rescue Mission for over 20 years. Mr. Wiest was a member of the Ballut Abyad Temple and the Hiram Lodge #13. His hobbies included antique cars, photography and many types of collectibles. Services will be held Tuesday, September 14th, at 3:30 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE.
