AVILA -- Andrew James (Jim) Avila died of heart failure on Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at the age of 45. A well-known rock musician, Jim played a mesmerizing lead guitar and sang a powerful, sweet lead in numerous local bands, most recently Trauma Unit. He organized musical benefits for the "Make A Wish" foundation and composed many songs. His talent and generosity were saluted on the radio station 94 Rock in an all-day tribute on July 22. Jim graduated from Sandia High School, Class of '76, and earned his associate degree in electronics from T-VI. He went on to become an electrical engineer. He worked at Siemen's in Albuquerque and later founded Modular Solutions, Inc. a company that designs robotic lighting. His line of lighting is manufactured in Florida, and both Universal Studios and Epcot Center use his lights. He also worked on various private and governmental robotic projects. Jim is survived by his wife, Judy Schiess Avila; by his daughter, Krystal Avila; his mother, Adelina Sanchez Avila; his sister, Luisa Ramirez; his brother, David Avila; nephews Gerald Parras, Jeffrey Avila and Christopher Avila; nieces Char Parras Schneringer and Kyndra Parras Vigil; his dogs, Blue and Red; and countless friends. A mass will be held on Tuesday, July 27, at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of the Risen Savior, 7701 Wyoming NE. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 31, at the New Life Presbyterian Church, 5540 Eubank NE (north of Spain) at 2:00 p.m. Please make contributions to "Make A Wish" foundation in lieu of flowers. BALL -- Wanda Lee Michael Ball died suddenly at her home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on Thursday, July 22, 2004. She was 79. She was executive director of Red Cross chapters in West Virginia, Virginia and New Jersey and a pharmaceutical representative based in Pittsburgh. She moved to Santa Fe in 1979 and resided with her sister, Elinor Michael, now deceased. Her grandchildren Alicia and Thomas Phillips preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Richard Rael, of Espanola, New Mexico; her granddaughter, Kathy Phillips of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and her son, daughter-in-law, and grandsons, Michael, Cindy Thames, Aaron, Eli and Isaac, all of Boston, Massachusetts. Following Cremation, there will be a memorial service in the fall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Friends of the Fogelson Library, College of Santa Fe, P.O. BELLUS -- Helen Nancy Bellus, 83, a resident of Albuquerque since 1979, died Monday, July 19, 2004. She is survived by her son, Dr. Bill Valentine and wife, Carol; granddaughter, Velvet Valentine; and her cat, Baby. Helen was born in Warren, PA on December 23, 1920 to Walter and Jennie Schatzle. She moved to New Mexico in 1979 and retired in 1984 after 45 years at AT&T and Mountain States telephone. She was a member of La Mesa Presbyterian Church. A celebration of her life will be held Tuesday, July 27, 2004, 10:00 a.m. at La Mesa Presbyterian Church, 7401 Copper NE, with Rev. Trey Hammond officiating. CHAVEZ -- Solomon G. "Tootsie" Chavez, 79, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday. Solomon was born on January 16, 1925 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was the owner and operator of Electronics TV Land for 16 years. He is survived by four sons Joe Chavez and wife Lizette, Philip Chavez and wife Lisa, Mark Chavez and fiance Joyce Korte and David Chavez; four daughters Liz Espinoza, Caroline Chavez and Rachael Bris, Dolores Sena and husband Charles and Kayla Hale; eight grandchildren Jennifer, Philip Jr., Brianna, Michael, Christopher, Emily, Matthew Solomon and Larry; and one great grandchild Kevin. Visitations will be held on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. in the Eighth Street Chapel of Garcia Mortuary. Refreshments will be served following the Rosary in the Celebration of Life Room also in Garcia Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday time and place to be announced. GUTIERREZ -- Grace G. Gutierrez, 85, a resident of Albuquerque since 1957, died Friday, July 23, 2004. She is survived by her sons, Ramon and wife, Josie and Anselmo Gutierrez, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Richard, Carol, Edward, Kathy, Debbie, Tina, Cynthia and Anselmo Jr.; sister, Lila Griego and husband, George; several great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anselmo Gutierrez; sons, Daniel and Edward; grandson, Daniel Gutierrez; brother, Alfredo Garcia Jr.; sister, Josefina Samora; and her precious dog, Muffin who just died a few weeks ago. She was a beloved mother; grandmother, sister and friend who has gone on to her resting place and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. LOVATO -- Elisario Lovato, 73, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday. He was born on January 13, 1931. He was preceded in death by a son Rafael Jose Lovato. He is survived by his wife Nora Lovato; one son Ernest Lovato and wife Carla; three daughters Frances Martinez and husband Mike, Diane Tafoya and husband Lawrence and Irene Jaramillo and husband Michael; one brother Joe Lovato; two sisters Theresa Martinez and husband Daniel and Dorela Garcia; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Mr. Lovato will be deeply missed by his loving family. Visitations will be held on Monday from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary. A Rosary will follow at 7:00 p.m. at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday morning at 9:00 a.m. also at the Church. OAKLEY -- Florence Ingels Oakley passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2004 in Santa Monica, California. Born in West Orange, New Jersey on May 15, 1917, she was the daughter of Edward Victor Ingels of Nevada, Missouri and Elsie Atwell Ingels of Bristol, England. After graduating from West Orange High School she received her A.A. degree from Principia College, Elsah, Illinois in 1937. She then took library training through the State University of New Jersey and earned a New Jersey Librarian Certificate. She met and married her first husband, Charles Gregory Warner, while a librarian at the West Orange Public Library. Charles Warner, a Captain in the US Army, was killed in action in France in 1944. Florence married William Forrest Oakley of Montclair, NJ in 1946. They were long time residents of Connecticut, first in Newtown and then Stamford and Wilton. She moved to Corrales, NM in 1990 and in 2003 to Santa Monica. Florence was a listed Christian Science Practitioner for more than 40 years. Her husband, William Oakley, pre-deceased her. She is survived by two children, Katherine Warner Oakley of Corrales, NM and Charles Warner Oakley, of Pacific Palisades, CA, a sister, Betsy Jayne Brown of Nokomis, FL, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The family is planning a private service to be held in the Albuquerque area. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Principia College; First Church of Christ, Scientist, Albuquerque NM; or the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra.

THAXTON -- Ruby D. Thaxton, 77, a resident of Albuquerque since 1949, passed away on Sunday, July 25, 2004. She is survived by her cousins Michael Clauson and husband, Keith, and Heinz Otto Backhus and wife, Herma all of Pennsylvania; and adopted family, Ed and Bertie Matheny and family of Albuquerque. Ruby was a business owner as well as member of the Electronics Representatives Association. She was also a longtime member of the Daughters of the Nile.
