Provins -- Robert Gary Provins April 29, 1944 - January 11, 2003 Bob was born at Farragut Naval Training Station to Geneva and William Provins who was a career Navy man. Bob lived in many places in his growing up years. He was a graduate of Manzano High School. He said he didn't want to go to college at that time and he followed in his Dad's footsteps and enlisted in the Navy in September after graduation. After several years he said that he knew he had to have more education to keep ahead of the young fellows who were coming into the Navy at that time. So, with a wife and family, he tackled night school and went on to acquire a Bachelor of Arts degree in Behavioral Science and a Master of Science degree in Computers in Education. Bob retired from the Navy after 26 years with a rate of Master Chief Sonar Technician (E-9) and went to work as a cartographer and computer animation designer. Bob was never happier than when the family was gathered together, and the more the merrier. He loved standing over the barbecue grill flipping hamburgers, and his mother always said that he made the best chicken teriyaki in the whole wide world. Bob was diagnosed with cancer in June, 2002, and fought it as hard as he could with all the tools available to the doctors, but the fight was too hard, and he finally gave up on January 11, 2003. His body was cremated, and his remains will be buried from a submarine at sea. Besides his parents, he leaves to mourn his wife, Susan; daughter, Christine and her husband, John, of Florida; sons, Doug and his wife, Tracy Lee, Philip and his wife, Amanda, and Eric; and five grandchildren, Robert, Kayleene, Korrie, Sage and Samantha; his sister, Judith Walker and her husband, Frank, of Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. Memorial services were held January 15th at the Second Ward Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints in Santee, California.
