Bloch -- Merritt P. Bloch, 89, died Thursday, October 10, 2002 in Las Vegas, NV. He is survived by his daughter, Evelyn Zlotkin; son, Rob Bloch; grandchildren, Stacy and Ian and his wife, Kelley; great-grandchildren, Jonnathon, Cheyenne, Kaylee and Emily; and many friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence; daughter, Joanne; and sister, Judy. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, was an auxiliary police sergeant with the NYC Auxiliary Police. He was a charter member of the Screen Actors Guild, a volunteer with the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis ( now the March of Dimes), and other various organizations. He owned Merit Audio-Visual Co. and supplied equipment to New Mexico's hotels, convention center, Pope Joy Hall and many others during the mid 70's through the early 90's. Cremation and interment have taken place. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2002 at 3:30 p.m. at Congregation Albert, 3800 Louisiana Blvd. NE, with Rabbi Joseph Black officiating. Memorial Contributions made to the Rabbi's Discretionary Fund at Congregation Albert.

Boyd -- Jeffrey C. Boyd, 51, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 6, 2002. His parents, Dr. John F. Boyd and Jane C. Boyd, preceded him in death. He is survived by his children, Justin C. Boyd and Shauna M. Boyd of Omaha, Nebraska; his brothers, Jay F. Boyd and wife, Suzanne J. Boyd of Albuquerque and J. Curtis Boyd and wife, Nancy L. Boyd of Sugar Land, Texas; his niece, Stephanie B. Gehres and husband, Shaun Gehres of Memphis, Tennessee; and his nephew, Edward F. Boyd of Albuquerque. Jeff graduated from the Albuquerque Academy in 1969 where he played football and basketball and from Trinity University in 1973. He spent most of life involved in the construction business in Albuquerque. Jeff lived a short but full and eventful life, and he had an impact on everyone he met. Under his gruff exterior beat a heart of gold. His family and friends will miss him. His family appreciates all those special people who cared for him during the last several months. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Saturday, 11:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with a reception to follow at Neds on the Rio Grande, 1100 Rio Grande NW from 12:00 - 3:00 p.m. Arrangements by French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.

Garcia -- Robert Jude Garcia Sr."Rob", was born July 19, 1962 in Big Springs, TX. He passed away November 5, 2002 in Albuquerque. Gonzales -- Toby O. Gonzales, 76, a resident of Albuquerque since 1954, died Thursday, November 7, 2002. He is survived by his daughters, Julia Gabaldon and husband John, Irene N. Gonzales and Darlene Nevarez, all of Albuquerque, and Michelle Rendon of Santa Monica, CA; granddaughters, Anna Marie Garcia and husband Vince, and Candice Korte; grandson, John N. Gabaldon, Jr. and wife, Dolly; great-granddaughter, Elena Marie Garcia; great-grandsons, Giovanni Gabaldon and Vincent Anthony Garcia, all of Albuquerque; sisters, Elizabeth Gonzales and husband, Joe of Albuquerque, Maureen Marquez and husband, Willie of Santa Fe and Lorraine Volpe and husband, Joe of Las Vegas, NV; and brothers, Joe Gonzales and wife, Mary of Rio Rancho and Leandro Gonzales of Colorado. Toby was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Gonzales. He was a superintendent of road construction in the State of New Mexico and was a member of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Church. Groff -- June Groff, 59, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away on November 7, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Richard Groff of Albuquerque; two daughters, Lara Ann Groff and husband, Neal Ambrose and Felicia Christine White and husband, Todd all of Albuquerque; three grandchildren, Javier and Annick Ambrose, Nathan White and a baby boy on the way; mother, Alta Lee Briscoe of Albuquerque; brother, Robert Byrd Briscoe II and wife, Maryvonne of Albuquerque. June is preceded in death by her father. She was a 3rd grade teacher at A.P.S. for 10 years; after she retired she was a volunteer at the Albuquerque Animal Humane Society and was a docent at the Albuquerque Museum. June was a beloved wife and mother and dedicated grandmother and will be missed by all. Service will take place on Monday, November 11, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Paradise Hills United Methodist Church, 4700 Paradise NW with Pastor David Snyman, officiating. Gutierrez -- Eloy Gutierrez, 75, husband, father, patriarch, and friend passed away peacefully on November 7, 2002. Eloy is survived by his wife of 57 years, Eduvigen Gutierrez; his daughter, Ellimay Solis; his daughter, Anna Marie Nevarez and her husband, Moises Nevarez; and his son, Donaciano Gutierrez. He is also survived by his four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild, Paulette, Adrianne, Jospeh, Eloy and Monique. He will be missed and well remembered by his family. Funeral Services for Mr. Gutierrez will be held on Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at San Jose de Armijo Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joseph Nevarez, Eloy Nevarez, Stephen Sexton, Philip Gutierrez, Rudy Jaramillo and Manuel Jaramillo. Hill -- C.D."Don" Hill went home to be with the Lord on November 5, 2002 at the age of 69. Don was born and raised in Dawson, TX and attended Texas University in Austin. He was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army and also the U.S. Air Force and came to New Mexico while serving in the military. During his lifetime Don had worked for the Southern Union Gas Co. for over 18 years and prior to retirement he was a Process Server. Don loved the outdoors, animals and any foods made from scratch. He was great with cooking and sharing many stories that kept his family and friends entertained. C.D. is survived by his wife of 44 years, Ella; daughters, Barbara Albin, Liz Rue and her husband, Frank; grandchildren, Joseph and Jordyn Rue, Philip and James Albin and their father, Doug Albin; his aunt, Ethel Hill; and many special cousins, nieces and nephews. He also left behind his beloved Maxine. A Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, November 8, 2002 from 6:30 p.m.- 8:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Sunrise Funeral Options, 2400 Southern Blvd. in Rio Rancho. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2002 at 9:30 a.m at Calvary Chapel, 4001 Osuna Rd. in Albuquerque with Bob Church as Officiant. Lopez -- Mr. Manuel J. Lopez died Wednesday, November 6, 2002 in Albuquerque at the age of 56. Mr. Lopez is survived by his wife, Maria M. Lopez; daughters, Maria M. F. Lopez-Chavez, and Josie Benitez; and sons, Juan Lopez and Pedro Lopez. Phillips -- Rev. Joney L. Phillips, age 74, beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother was called home to be with the Lord our Savior, Thursday, November 7, 2002. Rev. Phillips was a resident of Los Lunas formerly of Torreon, NM. He was past Pastor of the Rock Springs Holiness Mission in Torreon, NM for 30 years; and a proud Veteran of the United States Army. Rev. Phillips is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Pauline M. Phillips of the family home; his children, Beverly Hines and husband, Tom of Albuquerque and Dwight Phillips and wife, Eileen of Baltimore, MD; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margie Sherrill and Barbara Hooper; one brother Lewis Phillips; nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those who knew and loved him. Visitations will be held Sunday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary. Russell -- Butch Russell, 56, a resident of Belen, peacefully joined our Lord on Wednesday, November 6, 2002. Butch was a longtime employee of Transwestern Pipeline, but his heart and focus were always on his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Athalie Russell of Deming, NM. He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Betty; his two sons, Warren and his wife, Jennifer of Las Cruces; and Aaron and his wife, Natalie of McKinney, TX; one granddaughter, Sutton; two sisters, Martie Smith and her husband, Jim of Rio Rancho, NM; and Loujean Getman and her husband, Raymond of Belen. He is also survived by his loving niece and nephews. A viewing will be held on Friday, November 8, 2002 from 2:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at Romero Funeral Home and a Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, November 9, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Belen. Williams -- James R. Williams, 52, a resident of Albuquerque for 40 years, passed away on November 6, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Maria Williams of Albuquerque; 3 stepchildren, Cesar Ruiz - Jimenez and wife, Kristen of Albuquerque, Edgar Ruiz of Albuquerque and Patricia Ruiz of San Diego, CA; 2 brothers, Fred Williams and Ronald Williams and companion, Marlene all of Albuquerque; 2 sisters, Clara Money and husband, Richard of Espanola, NM and Carolyn Williams of Albuquerque; aunt, Lupe Henrichsen of Pagosa Springs, CO. James is also survived by 3 step grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was a member of St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church and of the American Legion Post 100. James was also a great fan of B.B. King. Wright -- Leigh Stephen Wright, born August 9, 1910 in Jasper, MI, raised on a farm until 1918. He moved to Tucson, AZ where he lived for a short time and attended Tucson High School. Leigh was in the National Guard in Arizona, 158th Infantry. Leigh moved back to Michigan where he attended Muskegon Jr. College and high school. He then moved back to Phoenix and attended University of Arizona. Leigh spent most of his time in Arizona prospecting in the Bradshaw Mountains and searching for the lost Dutchman's Mine. He picked up one surface nugget and gold dust, placer mining. In Phoenix, he was a partner in Wright-Brower Brokerage Company. He developed UKCB crumbled dog food. Leigh sold the company when he went into the postal transportation service in 1940 in Los Angeles, CA. The last 60 years, he has lived in Albuquerque and was employed by the US Postal System as a transportation supervisor on the Santa Fe to Kingman, AZ run. He retired as a supervisor in 1969 after 30 years. Leigh married in 1934 to Virginia Ragan who preceded him in death. He spent much of his time in the Sandia Mountains climbing, hiking, and riding his Honda 90 trail bike. Leigh owned the Wrightway Sprinkler Company for many years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting in New Mexico and Colorado and he fished both states frequently. Leigh was a member of Central United Methodist Church for 59 years and was active in the Wesley Fellowship class as treasurer for 30 years. Leigh distributed many foods to charitable institutions like God's Kitchen, Joy Junction, Boys and Girls Ranch, and St. Martin Hospitality. He is preceded in death by his son, Steve Wright and daughter, Janice Wright. In his final time, he was blessed by the tender care of his three daughters, Sylvia Wright O'Neil, Nola Wright Gearhart, and Marcia Wright Carey and his grandson, Dr. Matt Wright of Monaca, PA. He is survived by his daughters, Sylvia O'Neil and husband, John of Tijeras, Nola Gearhart and husband, Bert of Tijeras, and Marcia Carey and husband, Ernie of Tijeras; 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; grandson and extraordinary physician, Dr. Matthew Leigh Wright and wife, Dana of Monaca, PA and their children, Josh, Madison, and Caleb Wright; Jan and Mitch Wright of Aiken, SC, Mark and Nicholas Wright of Ft. Worth, TX, Shellye Wright and husband, Phil and their children Savannah, Cody, Stephen Brady, Elijah, and Stephanie Ragan of Calhoun, GA, Scott Lasher and wife, Marianne and son, Logan of Albuquerque, Justin Lasher of Showlow, AZ, Jeff Lasher and wife, Dianna, and their children, Holly, John, and Amber of Phoenix, AZ, Brian Lasher and wife, Sherrie and children, Nichole and Breanna Leigh of Phoenix, AZ, Diane Thomason and husband, George and their children, Amanda Leigh, Nathan, Rachael, and Joanna of Whittier, CA, Bradley Scott Carey and wife, Faith and son, Westin of Pagosa Springs, CO, Terri Marie Carey of Ruidoso, NM, Jesse Gearhart of Tijeras, NM, Chance Gearhart of Tijeras, NM, Cheryl Sanders of Belen, NM, Channing Sanders of Albuquerque, and Robert Sanders of New Hampshire. He was an inspiration to many and a blessing to us all. Services will be held Monday, November 11, 2002, 11:00 a.m., at Central United Methodist Church, 1615 Copper Ave. NE.
