Aragon -- Eugenio"Papa Gino" Aragon, died on Friday, September 20, 2002. He was born August 17, 1914 in El Carmel, NM. Papa Gino lived most of his early life in Cheyenne, WY where he retired from the Union Pacific Railroad after 30 years. In 1974, he and his family moved to Albuquerque where he was the patriarch of the household, which included his daughter, son-in-law and two granddaughters. Papa Gino was active and a well-known member of his community where he attended mass at our Lady of Fatima. He was often seen dancing and socializing at the Highland Senior Center and maintaining several yards in his neighborhood. His favorite pastime; however, was spending afternoons at The Albuquerque Downs. Papa Gino is survived by his daughter, Victoria Griego; son-in-law, Raymond Griego; granddaughters, Mia, Lisa and husband, Jeff; great-granddaughter, Madison; brother, Tony Aragon; and sister, Adelina Garcia. Rosary will be Monday, September 23, 2002, 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 4020 Lomas Blvd. NE. Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 24, 2002, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church with Father Francis Eggert, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Noriega, Paul Gurule, Adam Maes, Jeffrey Hershiser, Raymond Griego, and Darryl Ramirez. Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Vigil and Pete Romero. Baca -- Eloisa Baca, age 96, and a resident of Albuquerque died September 17, 2002. Eloisa was born in Belen, New Mexico to the late Bernardino and Placida Baca. Survivors include brother, Ernest Garcia of Chevy Chase, MD; nieces, Lucille Alford of Livermore, CA, Gladys Wismann of Denver, CO, Mary Agnes Williams of Farmington, NM, Cecilia M. Baca of Albuquerque, NM and Charlene Cunningham of Tijeras, NM; nephews, Leroy DeSoto of Roseville, CA, Stephen Garcia of Gaithersburg, MD, Milton Baca Jr. and Clemente Baca both of Albuquerque, NM. Eloisa was a schoolteacher in San Mateo, NM and Belen, NM from 1925 - 1927. In 1930 she became co-owner with Salomon DeSoto of the Sanitary Tortilla Factory and El Comedor DeSoto in Albuquerque. Eloisa was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Sunday September 22, 2002 with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. in Fern Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary 1100 Coal Ave SE. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 23, 2002 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 6th and Copper NW with Fr. Louis Lambert, Celebrant. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Milton Baca Jr., Clemete Baca, Ernest Alford, Guy Wismann, Steve Wismann and Alissa Kreuch serving as Pallbearers. Strong-Thorne Mortuary is handling all arrangements.

Benavidez -- Mr. Evaristo Benavidez, 85, a resident of Albuquerque and former resident of Cuba, NM passed away on September 21, 2002. Mr. Benavidez is survived by his sister, Erlinda Martinez and husband David; his brother, Manuel Benavidez; many nieces and nephews who loved him very much. Mr. Benavidez was a member of the Catholic Church. He loved everyone, his home town of Cub and the out doors. He will be missed by all his family and friends. Visitation will be Monday evening in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cuba, NM from 6:00pm until 7:00pm with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00pm by the Guadalupano's. Final visitation will be Tuesday morning in the Iglesia de Santo Nino in La Jara, NM from from 9:30am until 10:00am with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00am by Father Arley Downie. Interment will follow in the La Jara Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joe Martinez, Walter Martinez, Dennis Martinez, Lawrence Martinez, Phil Martinez and Ben Benavidez. Brown -- Lucy Ruth Brown, 91, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, September 20, 2002. She is survived by her daughter, Ellie Rucker of Austin, TX; sons. James F., Ted F., and Charles F. Brown, all of Albuquerque; sisters, Katy Lehman of Portales and Mildred Hudgens of Deming; eight grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband, Theodore R. Brown and her brother, Travis Brem of Deming. Ruth was a resident of Albuquerque for 70 years. She was born in Deming, NM on September 2, 1911 to J. Fletcher Brem and Willie Lee Mauldin. Ruth's parent's moved to New Mexico from Mississippi. Ruth had a special interest for the underprivileged and those who couldn't help themselves. She supported the Navajo Indians financially, spiritually and medically at a time when few people had even heard of a Navajo. She supported Albuquerque Rescue Mission, as well as missions in Guatemala, Mexico, India and Africa. She was a founding member of Albuquerque's Grace Church, President of Christian Women's Club, and past member of the Albuquerque Garden Club. Ruth was an active gardener and loved roses. A special acknowledgement is given to Helen and Carmen who so lovingly provided care for Ruth. Services will be held Saturday, September 28, 2002, 2:00 p.m., at the Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE Interment will follow. Friends may visit French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE on Friday, September 27, 2002, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Byrd -- Donna Byrd, 87, a resident of Albuquerque, died on Saturday, September 21, 2002. She is survived by her daughter, Diane Marie Davis of Albuquerque; sons, Marvin Raymond Byrd, and wife Beverly of Gilbert AZ, and Stephen T. Byrd, and wife Harriet of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Suzanne Marie Mills, Scott Larmie Davis, Harvey Gene Davis, Cari Lynn Olsen, Thomas E. Byrd, Jessica E. Pettinger, and Corrie E. Potter; and twelve great-grand children. She was preceded by her husband of 51 years, Gene Byrd. Donna was a dedicated stay at home mom, active in the schools, President of the PTA, and always participating in giving activities. She served as President of the Women's Golf Association of Arrow Head Country Club in San Bernardino, as well as the Albuquerque Country Club. She was active in every community in which she lived, the latest being at the La Vida Llena Retirement Community. She will be missed by all of us. Her services will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2002, at 3:30 p.m. at French Mortuary Wyoming Boulevard Chapel, 7121 Wyoming NE, with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating. Elliott -- Mildred Doris Bruckner Elliott passed away on Sunday morning, September 22, 2002. She was born on December 9, 1908 to the late Elizabeth and Michael Carney. Mrs. Bruckner was preceded in death by her husbands, Lawrence Bruckner and James Elliott and beloved son, Michael. She is survived by her son, Fr. Ronald Bruckner, Pastor of Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish; her son, Donald Bruckner and his wife, Elizabeth; her son Lawrence Bruckner; grandchild Donald Bruckner and his wife, Suzanne and their children Margaret, Joseph and Kate; grandchild, Geri Elizabeth and her husband, Edwin Kuster and their children Shannon, Edwin and Stephen; grandchild Thomas Bruckner and his wife, Kathy Aub; grandchild Karen Bruckner; grandchild, James Bruckner; grandchild Adam Bruckner and grandchild, Susan Bruckner. Mildred was a lover of animals and especially cats. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Nottrott -- Anna Avis Austin (Ann) Nottrott was born December 10, 1911 in Scotland County, Missouri to Charles F. and Mary Evelina Richardson Austin. She passed away September 18, 2002 in Sandia Court, Sandia Springs Assisted Living, Rio Rancho, NM, where she lived since December, 1998. Ann graduated from Memphis High School in Memphis, MO and Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (now Truman University) in Kirksville, MO in 1933. She married Carl G. Nottrott from Brookfield, MO in 1934. Carl preceded her in death in 1994, as did her father in 1954, her mother in 1982, her sister, Dr. Frances Jeanne Austin Woolf in 1996 and her nephew, Cameron M. Woolf in 1954. Ann taught high school English and commercial subjects in Missouri and third grade at the elementary school in Los Alamos, NM. During her lifetime, Ann was a loving and devoted wife and mother, daughter, sister and grandmother, who saw the best in others and gave the best of herself. She was an enthusiastic and accomplished bridge player, an excellent cook, and enjoyed playing the piano. She was member of the Methodist Church during her early years. She was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma, Mu Chapter; PEO; and Delta Kappa Gamma, educational organization. Whimsically, she enjoyed a monthly luncheon and bridge group of ladies from the Los Alamos"old days", who laughingly called themselves"The Stewed Tomatoes". Ann is survived by two daughters, Judith A. Nottrott and her partner, Sue Ellen Bunger Montoya, of Corrales, NM and Nancy J. Nottrott Harris of Cave Creek, AZ; two grandchildren, Courtenay A. Harris-Black and husband, Stephen J., of Chicago, IL and David C. Harris and wife, Sharon Wright, of Tucson, AZ; and a nephew, Dr. Donald A. Woolf of Norman, OK. Ann is deeply missed and ever-loved by her family and friends. She made the sun brighter and the world a better place with her love, graciousness and delightful sense of humor. On behalf of Ann, her family wishes to express the deepest appreciation and gratitude to the Staff of Sandia Court at Sandia Springs Assisted Living; Dr. Barry Hochstadt and others of Lovelace Health Care facilities; Lovelace Hospice, Dana, Kim, Tina, Judith and Jan; and individually to Lynne La Fontainne, Bobbie Munley, Debby Harley, Suzanne Manthei, Joy Gurule, Desi Chacon, Amanda Romo, Kathleen Trujeque, Moses Gossett, Joel Obrey, Margie Oleson, Mary Williams, Marcie Pandadazis, Charis, Mary, Joyce, Alycia, Yolanda, Sue, Delana, Jenny, Virginia, Sally, Nancy, Ruby, Rose, and all those who touched her life, assisted in her care, loved her and her family, and contributed to her life and comfort. Renfro -- Everett"Beans" Renfro (93) died Wednesday, September 18, 2002. He was born on a homestead in Barton, New Mexico on March 26, 1909. He moved with his family to Albuquerque where as a boy he sold pinto beans on the street corner and earned the nickname"Beans." He was a letterman in football at both Albuquerque High School and the University of New Mexico. He traveled with the UNM Lobo Football Team on their first airplane trip to a game in Los Angeles, CA. He served with the Army Air Corps in Saipan during World War II. He married Frances Russell of Peoria, Illinois in 1945 after a romantic courtship in the Jemez Mountains. He worked for the A.T. & S.F. Railroad for 39 years. He was on the cradle role at Central United Methodist Church, was a member of the Albuquerque Elks Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Railroad Retirement Association. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Frances; four daughters, Lura, Carol, Illene and Sally; two granddaughters, Leslie and Christina McMurtry and one surviving sister, Lois Ream, all of Albuquerque. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother. A service will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 24, 2002 at Central United Methodist Church. Internment at the Santa Fe National Cemetery will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Park Service, Animal Humane Association of New Mexico or the UNM Alumni Lettermen.

Scribner -- Gladys. M Scribner, 93, a resident of Albuquerque since 1968, died Friday September 20, 2002. She is survived by her brother, Walter Scribner and wife, Helene of Albuquerque; niece, Jacqueline Morice and husband, William of Indianapolis, IN; nephews, Philip Scribner and wife, Barbara of Ft. Myers, FL and David Scribner and wife, Sandra of Corrales; 3 great nieces; 3 great nephews; 2 great-great nephews; and 1 great-great niece. Ms. Scribner was a member of Eastern Star and Past Worthy Matron of Courtlandt Chapter #532, Peekskill, NY. She was presently affiliated with Turquoise Chapter #71, Rio Rancho. She was also a member of Paradise Hills United Methodist Church. She retired in 1969 after 17 years with the New York Department of Corrections. Service will be Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at French Mortuary-Westside Chapel with Rev. David Snyman, officiating. Interment will take place at Ballston Spa Cemetery, Ballston Spa, NY. Friends may visit French Mortuary-Westside Chapel, 9300 Golf Course, NW (3 blocks N. of Paseo Del Norte) Monday from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m.

Walkup -- Robert"Bob" Walkup, 73, passed away Wednesday, September 18, 2002 at home with his loving family by his side. Even though cancer took its toll on his life, we are comforted in knowing that the big"C"in his life was Christ not cancer. He served his country in the United States Air Force and later retired from the Federal Aviation Administration. After his retirement he enjoyed his little farm and was actively involved in the Silver Saints Ministry at Calvary Chapel. He is survived by his wife, Betty; and four sons, Tom and his wife, Maureen, Bob and his wife, Kathy, Jim and his wife, Linda, and Russell. In addition, Bob loved and was loved by his grandchildren, Nikki and her husband, Ben, Matt and his wife Jill, Josh, Elizabeth, Greg, Rachel; and great-grandson Will, who was just getting to know him. He is also survived by his sister, Daphne Austin of Dalhart, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A Memorial Service will be held at Calvary of Albuquerque on Monday, September 23, 2002, at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Skip Heitzig officiating.
