Bailey -- Dale A. Bailey, 73, died Monday, January 28, 2002 in Hobbs. She was born on April 2, 1928 in New York City and attended Dwight Morrow High School in Englewood, NJ. Mrs. Bailey moved west with her family in 1949. She married Thomas Bailey on March 7, 1950 in Wenatchee, WA. Mrs. Bailey moved to Hobbs in February 2000 from Grants, NM where she had resided for many years. Survivors include her daughters, Barbara Odom of Hobbs, NM and Nora Nichols of Eldorado Hills, CA; six grandchildren; three sisters, Sue Barker of San Clemente, CA, Linda Leader of Bandon, OR and Carol Van Houten of Cathedral City, CA; special friends, Jean and Perry Fisher of Grants, NM; and her precious dog, Mugsie. Mrs. Bailey was preceded in death by her husband; and her son, Victor Bailey. No Services are planned at this time. Memorial contributions can be made to Vista Care Family Hospice, 1515 W. Ballou -- Eliza Ruth Ballou, a former resident of Albuquerque for 56 years, passed away in Pendleton, OR on Tuesday, January 22, 2002. She was born February 5, 1912 in Watervalley, MS to the late Lida and Dukey McFarland. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul Lawrence Ballou. She is survived by her sons, Wayne A. Ballou of Pendleton, OR and Arthur W."Buzzy" Ballou of Fontana, CA; one sister, Wardeen Kelly of Chicago, IL; granddaughter, Carla Ballou; great-granddaughters, Latoria Dickson and Sheridan Crawford of San Diego, CA; and numerous other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; she is also survived by close cousin and confidante, Mrs. Exerlona Bramlett; and cousins, Jesse and Ruth Ballou and their children, Hilda Mosley and Gregory Ballou all of Albuquerque; also close nieces, Brenda Dabney and Barbara Collins of Albuquerque; plus numerous other nieces and nephews. In 1944, she came to Albuquerque as the young bride of Mr. Paul Lawrence Ballou and became a mother and housewife and a dedicated worker in her church, Mt. Olive Baptist Church, and the community. She was a member of the PTA, Church Women United, and the Eureka Matrons Club for which she was recently honored for over 50 years of service and also honored by her church for 56 years of service. At the church, she served on the Missionary Board in various offices, taught Sunday school, was Vice Chairperson of the Trustee Board, Chairperson of the Anna J. Clayton Circle and Church Representative to Church Women United. She was a well-known caterer serving parties large and small for prominent local families. Services will be held Saturday, February 2, 2002, at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Olive Baptist Church, 2401 University Blvd. SE officiated by Rev. Stephen D. Billingslea, Pastor. Pallbearers will be Jesse Ballou, Gregory Ballou, Joseph F. Dabney, Joe Dabney III, John Carreathers, Melvin Hanks, SR. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Deacons of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Beene -- Gilbert Harris Beene. A Funeral Service is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Friday, February 1, 2002 at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Roswell for Gilbert Harris Beene, 53, of Dexter, NM who passed away January 25, 2002 at Lovelace Hospital in Albuquerque, NM. A Graveside Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. CST, at Friona Cemetery in Friona, TX. Pastor Keanon Witcher of Hobbs will officiate. Gilbert was born on June 28, 1948 in Clovis, NM to Burl Beene and Benthal Southall Beene. Both parents preceded him in death. Gilbert graduated from Clovis High School and attended both Texas A&M and Texas Tech Universities. He started a career in Law Enforcement at the age of 21. He moved to Southeastern New Mexico from Albuquerque in 1984 and had currently been working at Chaves County Detention Center. Gilbert was a member of the N.R.A., the Roswell Gun Club, and the Eagles. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be greatly missed. Survivors include his sons, William R. Beene and his wife, Maria and Porter H. Beene and his wife, Melissa all of Roswell, NM; brothers, Vance Beene and his wife, Dee of Mt. Vernon, IL, Greg Beene and his wife, Donna of Bowling Green, OH, and Danny Hyatt and his wife, Ann Marie of Chicago, IL; sisters, Elena Willey and her husband, Rudy of Lodi, CA, and Bennie Jo Roberts and her husband, Russell of Lovington, NM; grandchildren, Shanley Beene, Garrett Beene, Kayla Beene, Alexandria Beene, Carter Beene, Bailey Beene, and Hunter Gilbert Beene. Pallbearers will be John Anderwald, Toby Steely, Tim Owen, Robert Fink, Dennis Cross, and Steve Boyd. Honorary Pallbearer will be Gordon Patton. Bryant -- William "Bill" Bryant, 55, a resident of Albuquerque since 1983, died Sunday, January 27, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Maria Carolina Bryant; sons, Carlos Edgar Hernandez, both of Albuquerque, Eduardo Quinones and wife, Yvonne of Houston, TX, Daniel William Bryant and David Marcelo Bryant, both of Albuquerque; daughters, Deborah Bryant, Angela Bryant, both of Midland, TX, Yvonne Corral and husband, Jesus and Josefina Idaly Quinones and husband, Pedro, all of Albuquerque; 10 grandchildren; and brothers, Don Bryant and wife, Linda of Duluth, MN and George Bryant of Midland, TX. Mr. Bryant was a member of Iglesia Bautista Sinai, where he served as an usher. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed working on old cars. Chavez -- Vera H. Chavez of Santa Fe passed away on Monday, January 28, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Celso Chavez; grandson, James Jr. Chavez; and brother, James Herrera. Mrs. Chavez was a member of St. John Catholic Church from its inception until April of 2000. She is survived by her son, James Chavez and wife, Betty; sisters, Priscella Maldonado and husband, Fred, Josie Romo and husband, Manual; grandson, Gerald Chavez and wife, Vicki; granddaughters, Carol Shoaf and husband, William, Barbara Garcia and husband, David, Margie Henderson and husband, Nick and Marie Goodrow and husband, Steve; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous other nieces and nephews. Dale -- James W. Dale, born in Dawson, NM on May 1, 1923 and departed this world on January 23, 2002. He is preceded in death by his wife, Michaeline (Mickey) Dale; and his brothers, William and Albert Dale. He is survived by his daughter, Trudy Jennings and husband, Steve; granddaughter, Tamara Petrino and husband, Paul; grandson, Jerry V. Jackson; oldest brother, George Dale and wife, Katherine; and three great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on January 31, 2002 at the Sandia Funeral Care, 7601 Wyoming, Albuquerque, NM at 1:00 p.m. for those who wish to attend. A Private Service will take place in Dawson for the final disposition according to Mr. Dale's wishes...and so to the earth from whence he came.

Eichhorst -- Patrick William 52 died Monday, January 28th, 2002 at the University of New Mexico Hospital. He spent his last hours surrounded by family and friends. Patrick was born in Albuquerque on April 3, 949 and attended Rio Grande High School and the University of New Mexico. Patrick was a private contractor who redesigned, remodeled, and built numerous local homes and offices as well as designing and constructing custom cabinetry and furniture. When not building for others, Patrick could be found on his tractor tending his alfalfa. Patrick was active in water and conservation issues in the state and he was an outspoken proponent for the small farmers in the Rio Grande Valley. He made his home in the South Valley and later at the foot of Tome Hill south of Los Lunas. Patrick is survived by his wife, Lisa Robert Eichhorst; son, Joffee Robert; sister, Helen Eddy; and brothers, Tom Eichhorst and Bob Eichhorst. Patrick will be cremated on January 30, 2002 with services to be determined by his wife at a later date.

Funes -- Jose Funes, "Daddy, Tata, Compadre¯ Funes", 79, a longtime resident of Albuquerque was taken home to the Lord on Tuesday, January 29, 2002. He is survived by the love of his life, Maria ¯Chata¯ Funes, they were married for 58 years; children, Felix Funes and wife, Patsy, Michelle Gallegos and husband, Raymond, Maryann Baca, Tony Funes and wife, Alma, Julia Garcia and husband, Sam, Santiago Funes, Clara Dixon and husband, Jim, Theresa Gomez and husband, Ernie, Raymond Funes, Alice Brito, Angel Franco and husband, Louie, Eva Clark and husband, Mark and Monica Salazar and husband, Alex and Crystal Funes; 43 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, like a son, Armando ¯Chato¯ Ortiz. His extended family included nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews in his home country of Mexico. Jose was preceded in death by his parents, Felix & Angelita Funes; a son, Juan De La Cruz Funes; four brothers; one sister; and a grandson; Little Ray Gallegos. Tata will be remembered for his love and cariño that he showed to everyone. Like his patron saint, St. Joseph, he was also a carpenter and was a master at his trade. His carpentry work can be seen at St. Charles Borromeo Church and also the doors at Sacred Heart Church."Daddy" left a huge impression on everyone he met and touched many lives. Gonzales -- Mr. Willie G. Gonzales died Monday, January 28, 2002 in Albuquerque at the age of 81. Mr. Gonzales was a Veteran of World War II. He was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army and served two years on the front lines. Mr. Gonzales worked 20 years for Kirtland Air Force Base and was top in his field. He was also a boxer in the Army, his nickname was Baby Face Gonzales. Mr. Gonzales was a life member of the DAV Chapter 3 and a member of the VFW. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Virginia; his only daughter, Diana and husband, Joseph Kolozsy; two grandsons his pride and joy, Joseph Raymond Kolozsy and fiancée, Mollie Vigil, and Donny Kolozsy and wife, Stephanie; sisters, Pricilla, Florinda, and Albertina; brothers, Robert and Vivian; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Hinckley -- Gladys Hinckley, 74, a resident of Rio Rancho since 1989, passed away on January 29, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Donald Hinckley of Rio Rancho; one daughter, Shirley Collins and husband, Larry of Rio Rancho; two sons, Donald Hinckley of Rio Rancho and Ronald (Hassan) Hinckley of Rio Rancho; grandchildren, Derek and Justin Hinckley, Shannon Kubie and husband, David, Deidre (Hassan) Hinckley and Brandon Hinckley and wife, Dani; two step-granddaughters, Denise and Chanley Collins; great-grandchildren, Kristan Morgan, Jeremiah Kubie and Alyssa Hinckley; she is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Hofman -- Irma Hofman, age 85, passed away Monday, January 21, 2002 in a local hospital. She was born in Hungary, august 30, 1916 to the late Janos and Karolina (Pleszky) Lintner. She is survived by two nieces, Judith Lintner of Munich, Germany, Sophie Simanyi of Budapest, Hungary; two nephews, Peter Lintner of New York, NY, Anthony Lintner of Pittsburgh, PA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Hofman in 1980. She was a member of Los Altos Church of Nazarene. Memorial services will be held Thursday, January 31, 2002 at 5:00 PM in the Los Altos Church of Nazarene, 215 Erbbe N.E. Pastor Cecil Gray and Pastor Bill Reinicke will officiate. Martinez -- Bonnie C. Martinez, 89, a resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, January 28, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Frances Martinez; son-in-law, Gerry Cunico, both of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Stephen Cunico and wife, Audrey of Japan, James Cunico and Jeffrey Cunico and wife, Jennifer, all of Albuquerque; great-grandchildren, Robyn, Rachel, Catherine, Christopher, Samantha, Matthew, Joshua and Jacob Cunico; brother, Benjamin Martinez and wife, Jackie of Idaho Falls, ID; and sister, Mercedes Lefler and husband, Edean of Branson, MO. Mr. Martinez was preceded in death by his daughter, Roberta Cunico in 1997. He was a longtime active member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Mr. Martinez was a salesman for wholesale groceries and later owned and operated Martin's Grocery Store on Isleta SW. In his retirement, he worked at the UNM North Golf Course. Mcgovern -- Edith "Dolly" McGovern, 94, a resident of Albuquerque since 1946, died Monday, January 28, 2002. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Haver and husband, Rick of San Diego, CA; son, James McGovern and wife, Sally of Silver City; daughter, Wendy Sandoval and husband, Stann of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Laura Newberry and husband, Brook, Steve Thurston, Karen McGovern and Anna McGovern; and great-grandchildren, Taylor and Trevor Newberry. Mrs. McGovern was a kindergarten teacher for much of her adult life, teaching 27 years at St. Charles Catholic School. She was a volunteer at the Palo Duro Senior Center. Naranjo -- Mr. Lalo Naranjo died Wednesday, January 30, 2002 in Albuquerque at the age of 77. Mr. Naranjo was a veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion Post 72. He worked for Springer Transfer as a truck driver for all of his working life. Mr. Naranjo is survived by his wife, Angelina Naranjo; son, Richard L. Naranjo; daughter, Shirley Wittkosfsky and husband, Frank; and grandchildren, Ricky Naranjo, Laura Wittkosfsky, Franklin Wittkosfsky, and Leann R. Naranjo. Nichols -- Jack R. Nichols, 53, died Sunday, January 27th 2002. Jack was born in Albuquerque on January 3, 1949 and attended Rio Grande High School and the University of New Mexico. He worked locally at various jobs throughout his life, the last being a copy machine technician and repairman. Jack is survived by his son, Tim Nichols of Midland, Texas; sisters, Lisa Robert Eichhorst of Los Lunas and Donnie Eichhorst of Rio Rancho; and aunt, Lucille Aslin of Albuquerque. Jack will be cremated on January 30, 2002 with services to be determined at a later date by his son.

Peplinski -- Cecylia M. Peplinski, a resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, January 27, 2002. She is survived by her son, Stan Peplinski of Albuquerque; and relatives in Europe. Mrs. Peplinski was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Vincent M. Peplinski in 1991. She was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Phillips -- Estelle S. "Casey" Phillips, 84, passed away in Maricopa County Medical Center, Phoenix, Arizona on Sunday, January 27, 2002, as the result of a head injury sustained in a fall which occurred January 18, 2002. She was the loving and beloved wife of Paul Phillips; and mother of Benjamin J. Phillips, Esq., Alice Phillips Zelkha, R.N., and Joyce Phillips, M.D. She was born May 20, 1917, in New York City, the third child of Barney Stengel and Rose Cantor Stengel. She grew up in Mount Vernon, New York. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1937 from Hunter College of the City of New York and a J.D. degree from Brooklyn Law School of St. Lawrence University in 1943. She married Paul Phillips in New Rochelle, New York, on February 1, 1942. For over a year during World War II she was a single parent while her husband was overseas. She became an executive in a private banking and investment corporation which handled the accounts of some of the Rothschild family in New York. She left that employment to accompany her husband to live in Lincoln, Nebraska. In February 1957, Casey and her family moved to Albuquerque where she resided until her death. For some years she augmented the family income by working as an administrative assistant in an Albuquerque engineering firm. Casey served for several years on the Jewish Welfare Board (predecessor of the Jewish Federation of Greater Albuquerque). She was a long time member of Congregation Albert and its Sisterhood, Hadassah, and the ACLU. For the last 15 years, she has spent the winter months in Sun City West, Arizona. She had an abundance of interests and talents which included painting, knitting, jewelry making, working crossword puzzles, baking and cooking for her family. She had an early and profound interest in drama and the theater which continued throughout her life. She was an avid fan of tennis and Lobo basketball. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was proud of the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her older siblings, Gertrude Rosof, D.D.S., and Sidney Stengel, D.D.S.. She is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Paul Phillips; her children, Benjamin Phillips, Alice Zelkha and Joyce Phillips; she is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Meredith Phillips, Ph.D, Jonathan Phillips, MSW, Darius Zelkha, Jeremy Zelkha, Chloe Zelkha, Rachel Syme and Noah Syme. Services will be held Thursday, January 31, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at Congregation Albert. Interment will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Strong-Thorne Mortuary in charge of arrangements. Rise -- We lost an elegant lady Tuesday morning, January 29, 2002 at 7:55 a.m. Our mother, our friend, Vara Rise, died peacefully at home. Born November 15, 1918 in Jackson, TN, she was a longtime resident of Albuquerque. She found the love of her life, Carl Rise, and married him on April 3, 1954. He preceded her in death April 22, 2001. While raising six boys she was a top Realtor for many years. She was co-owner of Best Moulding Corporation, founded in 1947, which flourishes today and continues to employ 60 to 70 people. She was passionate about family. She spent most of her love, time and energy taking care of Carl and keeping tabs on her boys. Some of her favorite times were fishing trips to Mexico with Carl. They shared many wonderful memories. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her. She is survived by one sister, Velma Wentworth of Jackson, TN; her children, Steve Marlowe and wife, Patty of Redding, CA, Gordon Marlowe and wife, Rena of Belen, Frank DeMott and wife, Helen, of Albuquerque, Joe Rise and wife, Kathy of Corrales, John Rise and wife, Karen of Albuquerque; many grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. Mrs. Rise was preceded in death by her son, Billy Rise. Services will be held Friday, at 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE. Roche -- Geraldine Marie Roche, age 95, born June 9, 1906 to James B. Smith and Martha Elizabeth Tate Smith at Trenton, Missouri, passed away at her home in Albuquerque January 28, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward William Roche. They were married May 27, 1926, moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1928 and lived there until 1950 when they moved to Albuquerque. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Patsy Jordan and Chloe Hicks. Mrs. Roche is suvived by a daughter, Margaret Marie (Margie) Clark; sons, Edward William (Bill) Roche Jr. and wife, Edie, James Harry Roche, Michael John Roche all of Albuquerque; six grandchildren, Michelle, Mark, Kevin, and Ed Roche and his wife, Sherri, Amy and Bethy Clark; two great-grandchildren, Brandon Pendell and Amanda Roche; and her nephew, Owen Casto of Missouri She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Parish. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. Friday, February 1, 2002 at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 1818 Coal Place SE. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Rodriguez -- Domingo Guzman Rodriguez, 71, a resident of Albuquerque, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 27, 2002. He was born December 7, 1930 in Floresville, Texas. He had been a longtime construction worker before retiring. Domingo is survived by three sons, Michael and wife, Evelyn, Paul and wife, Nancy, and Leonard and wife, Debbie; one brother, Gumacino Rodriguez, several grandchildren; nephews and nieces; family and friends. Visitation will be held today, Wednesday, January 30, 2002 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Lighthouse Baptist Church, 4th Street and Guadalupe, in Albuquerque. The Service will be on Thursday, January 31, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at the Lighthouse Baptist Church with Preacher Larry E. Kennedy officiating. Rogers -- Elmer Neil Rogers of Albuquerque passed from this life January 28, 2002 at Kaseman Hospice Care Center after an extended illness. Neil loved life and fought a long, hard battle. All who knew him also loved him. Neil was born December 29, 1913 in Pearsall, TX to Will H. and Lena L. Roberts. He was the eldest of five children. Neil married Martha Elizabeth Weltz July 29, 1937 in Raton, NM. They have a daughter, Carol Ann. His wife; his parents; a sister, Faye DeBault; brothers-in-law, Richard DeBault and Ancel Hinds precede him in death. He is survived by his daughter; one grandson, Peter; sisters, Billie Hinds of Albuquerque and Lena Mae Kuchan and her husband, Lee of Maxwell, NM; a brother, Russ of San Antonio, TX; numerous nephews and nieces; and a host of wonderful friends. Neil was a Jehovah's Witness. There will be a Memorial Service at the Kingdom Hall located at 312 Unser Blvd. in Rio Rancho tentatively scheduled for February 9, 2002 at 4:00 p.m. For further information please call 345-1981.

Scott -- Charles H. Scott, 92, passed away January 11, 2002 in Prairie Village, Kansas where he had lived the last three years. He was predeceased by his wife of 38 years, Margaret Taupert Scott in 1995; son, Charles H. Scott, Jr.; and daughter, Betty Lou Parsons. He is survived by sister, Catharine Wain of Munhall, PA; son, Robert D. Scott of Aurora, CO; and daughter, Shirley Hatter of Monrovia, CA. He retired in 1974 as wire chief after 47 years with the Santa Fe Railroad. He was a member of NARVE Unit #138, Albuquerque, Chapman Lodge #2, Las Vegas, NM and St. Pauls United Methodist Church. Torres -- Anastacio (Tacho) Torres, 77, February 6, 1924 to December 19, 2001. Born and raised in New Mexico. Died December 19, 2001 in Red Bluff, CA after a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice. He is survived by two sons; and three daughters from Gerber, CA. His sisters, Eppie Quintana, Emma Lasker and Carmen Sanchez of Albuquerque. Also surviving are his brothers, Julian Torres and Joe Torres of Albuquerque and Leo Torres of Bosque Farms, NM; a very special friend, Filadelfio Ulibarri of Albuquerque; and several nieces and nephews. Williams -- Duncan S. Williams, 79, went home to be with the Lord on January 29, 2002. He lived in Albuquerque for five years. The family home was in Las Cruces where he raised seven children. He worked at White Sands Missile Range and later for the City of Las Cruces. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruth Guynn Williams. He is survived by his children, Marsha of Texas, Bob and Totsie of T or C, Barry and Jill of Albuquerque, Carol and David and their extended family Caprice, Dominic and Adrian of Albuquerque, Carla and John of Arizona, Michael and Edesa of California and Alison and Richard of California; three grandchildren, Orina Alexandria, Jonathan and Hannah. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the caregiving family at The Woodmark at Uptown for their love and devotion to Duncan. Work -- Ralph Owen Work, nickname "Chub," a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away on January 29, 2002. He was born September 27, 1924 to Ralph A. and Mary (Mengel) Work in Ft. Morgan, CO. Ralph was raised in Ft. Morgan and after graduating high school, went on to serve his country in the United States Army. Ralph graduated from Colorado State University in 1950 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked for Sandia National Labs where he held several patents and retired after 36 diligent years of service. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Star Heights Ward of Rio Rancho, worked for the Boy Scouts for many years and loved hunting and camping. Ralph is survived by his wife, Lynn Benson-Work; four daughters, Marla Romano, Laurie Mitchell and husband, Gerald, Wendy Palencia and husband, Joe, and Tracy Kolk and husband, Frank; his grandchildren, Jackie and Jonathan Vachon, and Rachel, Megan and Sara Kolk; brothers, Bill and wife, Chris, and John and his wife, Shirley; sisters, Helen, Dot and husband, Don; step-children, Paula Beck, Rocky Rupe, Chris Campbell and Lola Huff. He was preceded in death by his son, Cris; and his twin sister, Gay. Funeral Services for Ralph will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2002 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Star Heights Ward, at 2807 19th Ave. SE in Rio Rancho. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the Funeral Service being held at 10:00 a.m. Cremation will follow and his cremated remains will be scattered on his boyhood farm in Ft. Morgan, CO.
