Barnette -- Jon H. Barnette, 63, a resident of Albuquerque since 1960, passed away on Friday, December 14, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Judy Barnette of Tijeras; son, Alan H. Barnette and wife, Rebecca of Huntingtown, Maryland; daughters, Ann Umberhocker and husband, Rich of Austin, TX, Jennifer Rice and husband, Greg of Marble Falls, TX, Jo Ellen Barnette of Austin, TX, Rachel Bailey and husband, Tom of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; grandchildren: Cody, Cheyenne and Cassidy Barnette, Kaylee and Ashlyn Umberhocker, Hannah, Andrew and Emily Rice, Nasya Barnette and Lauren Bailey; sister, Andra Barnette-Tracy of Framingham, MA; two nieces and three nephews. Mr. Barnette was employed at Sandia National Labs from 1960 until his retirement. Jon and his wife, Judy, led "Free in the Spirit" Ministries. Brandtner -- Mercedes Nava Brandtner, 100, a resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, December 15, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Ference Lajos (Louis) Brandtner and their grandson, Bruce Gilmer; by her sister, Catherine Nava de Shaver and their three brothers, Adalberto, Felix and Enrique Nava. Mrs. Brandtner was born September 24, 1901 in Cuidad Guerrero, Chihuahua, Mexico and was married to Lajos (Louis) Brandtner on April 28, 1931 in Old Mesilla near Las Cruces, NM. She and her husband lived in Bayard, NM, in Grant County for nearly 50 years. Together they ran a general merchandise store and later a liquor store for more than forty years until they moved to Albuquerque in the 1980's. Mercedes de Nava was a ninth generation descendant of the first Spanish settlers of New Mexico (Los Primeros Pobladores) who came north from Mexico City with Capt. Gen. Juan de Onate to colonize New Mexico in 1598. She herself was a pioneer, having arrived in El Paso, TX in a horse- drawn covered wagon in 1910. The family returned to their home only to flee for their lives again in 1917. They came to New Mexico, home of their ancestors, this time to stay. Mrs. Brandtner is survived by one son, Luis Brandtner y Nava of Santa Fe, and by four daughters, Irene Brandtner de Martinez of Santa Fe, Kathleen Brandtner- Smith, Mitzi Brandtner- Wencewicz, and Marti Brandtner, all of Albuquerque. She is also survived by her nephew, John Shaver y Nava of Albuquerque, and her sister-in- law, Iren Brandtner-Bertelli and her family of Marseille, France; son-in-law, Raul E. Martinez, Charles Edgar Smith and Don Wencewicz. Nine surviving grandchildren are: Mark L.B. Martinez of Santa Fe, Xanat Martinez-Martin of Phoenix, AZ, Brad Gilmer, Tracey Gilmer-Padilla, both of Albuquerque, Shannon Powell-Sandoval of Placitas and Chad King of Albuquerque, Melani Cigler-Tonevich of Indiana, Deanna Cigler of California and Joe A. Cigler of Indiana, and two step-grandchildren, Charles Smith and Jean Smith Dyke. Spouses of grandchildren are Michael Martin, Joe Padilla, Albert Sandoval and Mark Tonevich. Mrs. Brandtner is also survived by fourteen great-grandchildren, Leanna Bailey, Jessica Morris, Adam Sandoval, Ben Sandoval, Cira Sandoval, Matthew Martinez-Wurstser, Mark Tonevich, Lauren Tonevich, Michael Tonevich, Ryannon Padilla, Savanna Padilla and Dylan Padilla, Amy Dyke and Stephanie Dyke. Our mother will be remembered for her indomitable spirit and as an unfaltering figure of health and stamina well into her 90s. She traded personal achievement and recognition for her family and exhibited great devotion to her children. She will be forever remembered for her love of family, poetry and learning. Carli -- Gino Carli, 77, passed away on Monday, December 17, 2001. Beloved by family and friends for his quick wit, kind heart and insatiable curiosity, Gino will be truly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a first-generation American, born to Italian immigrants and raised in New York City. Recognized early on for his exceptional intelligence, teachers handpicked Gino to attend the prestigious Stuyvesant High School, where he graduated with full academic honors. Later, Gino attended the University of Kentucky. With his trademark focus and determination, he graduated in three years with a degree in Electrical Engineering. In 1952, he moved to Albuquerque and began a long and dedicated career with Sandia National Laboratories. As a Department Manager, Gino played an integral role testing equipment and designing information systems. After his retirement in 1990, Gino devoted his time to civic involvement, travel, and his favorite sport, golf. Among his several causes, Gino was active in initiating state legislation for tougher DUI laws and volunteered his time fixing donated computers for use in public schools. His favorite interests included jazz, good food and lively conversation, but his greatest love of all was his family. Gino Carli will always be cherished and remembered by his devoted wife, Patricia; his sons, Louis and Chris; his daughters-in-law, Christine and Tricia; and his grandson, Joseph. Cervantes -- Irene M. Cervantes, a resident of Rio Rancho, died Saturday, December 15, 2001. Danley -- Dagmar Danley, 84, a 17-year resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, December 16, 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Martinez and husband, David of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Ms. Kristi Lou Strickland of Atlanta, GA, Jodi Lee Davidson and husband, Doug of Columbus, OH, and Jami Valentine Martinez of Albuquerque; and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Danley was born in Sweden and emigrated to the United States with her parents at the age of six. She married Louis S. Danley and they lived in Chicago, IL and Mendon, MI. After her husband's death in 1982, she retired to Albuquerque to be close to her daughter. She was very active with her friends and her church and her family meant very much to her. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church. Love -- James W. Love, 68, a resident of Albuquerque for most of his life, died Friday, December 14, 2001. He is survived by his sons, James W. Love, Jr. and wife, Jacqueline, William Love, Donald Love and fiancée, Alina Ortiz and John Love and girlfriend, Nicki Ritter; daughters, Yvonne Love-Blue and husband, Charles and Debra Love-Andrews and husband, Thomas; eight grandchildren, Bridgette, Patrick, Christopher, Nick, James, Vanessa, Savion and Donald Jr., all of Albuquerque; two sisters, Georgia Washington of Hempstead, NY and Ann Johnson of Midland, TX; and many dear family and friends. James was a retired decorated member of the US Army. He was a certified radiology technologist. He dedicated over 30 years of service to UNMH, from which he had recently retired. Macrorie -- Bruce P. MacRorie, 36, died suddenly at home December 14, 2001. He is survived by his mother, Lee MacRorie; a sister, Moira and her husband, Douglas Pyle and their daughters, Tamara, Jessica and Tara, all of Albuquerque; a brother, Richard and his wife, Barbara and their children Ryan, and Danielle MacRorie of Las Cruces; his fiancée, Roxanne Miracle and her daughters, Monica and Tina, of Albuquerque. Bruce was well-known in the Albuquerque area as a drummer, playing with Problem Child, Snow Queen and Humboldt Draw, and he also toured the West Coast and Canada with the top 40s group Fresh. Bruce loved the mountains, camping, fishing, skiing and was a passionate fan of the Raiders football team. Ortiz -- Canuta (Connie) Ortiz was called home by Our Lord to share His kingdom for all eternity on December 15, 2001. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ramon and Reyitas Segura, brothers; John, George, Ramoncito, David, Pete and Euriol, and a sister, Julie. She leaves in God's care, her husband and trusted friend of 56 years, Reginaldo (Ricky) Ortiz. Together they shared their experience, strength and love with their children; Ron and wife, Margaret, Rita and husband, Alan, Tony and special friend Kelly, Maurice and wife, Anna. Their love reached out to their eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her brother, Adelaido and wife, Molly, sisters-in-law; Marlene Contreras and husband, Manuel, Tillie Salazar, Helen Ortiz, and Theresa Segura, and brother-in-law, Herculano and wife, Pat. Mrs. Ortiz retired from Sandia Labs in 1986 after sharing her loyalty with the Labs for 36 years. She extended this loyalty to her son's business where she worked an additional 16 years. Her work ethic will be difficult for us to achieve. God has summoned one tough, loyal, and trusted worker into his kingdom. We are thankful to God for allowing us to share our mom. We look forward to the resurrection so that we can all be together again. Her words of wisdom will forever be embedded in our minds, hearts, and souls. Her faith in God was expressed with total dependence in God. Thank you for showing us to depend on God and not to defy Him. Our flesh will miss you greatly, but we know and accept that eventually we had to let you go. God has another job waiting for you and His work will be your last. Pena -- Florela L. Pena was born in Los Lunas, NM, to Juan Luna and Lupita O. Luna on February 20, 1916. She passed away in Grants, NM, on December 15, 2001. She was 85. Mrs. Pena will be remembered for her work on the City of Grants Senior Citizens Advisory Board, she was a devoted member of St. Teresa Catholic Church as well as a loving homemaker who loved to make quilts, sew, read, and dance. Mrs. Pena is survived by her husband of 37 years, Antonio "Tony" Pena of the family home in Grants; two daughters, Georgianna Parra and her husband, Albert of Grants, Dixie Harshaw of Torrence., CA; one step-daughter, Mela Gonzales of San Antonio, TX; two step-sons, Gilbert Pena and his wife, Joyce of Grandview, KS, Johnny Pena and his wife, Ramona of Houston, TX; seven grandchildren, Monique Dillon, Albert R. Visitation will be held Monday 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Grants Mortuary Chapel, a Rosary will be recited by Eskie Mazon at 7:00 p.m. at St. Teresa Catholic Church. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday 10:00 a.m. also at St. Teresa with Father Emeric Nordmeyer O.F.M. officiating. Burial will follow at Grants Memorial Park. Riedel -- Melvin K. Riedel, 91, a resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, December 15, 2001. He is survived by his daughter, Mary A. Hench, of Defiance, OH; grandchildren, Mark Hench and wife, Denise, Eric Hench and wife, Deb all of Defiance, OH, Curt Hench and wife, Lois of Scottsdale, AZ and Karla Hench of Indianapolis, IN; nine great- grandchildren; nephew, Bob Riedel and wife, Judy of Sun City, AZ; great- niece, Cynthia Riedel of Denver, CO; great- nephew, Jon Riedel and son, Benjamin of Bellefonte, PA; and many other relatives and friends, especially Tom Simms of Albuquerque. Mr. Riedel worked as a field auditor for Great Lakes Steel and over 25 years with General Motors as treasurer of the Overseas Division. Riekeman -- Dr. Alvin F. Riekeman, 87, passed away in his sleep, at his home, the evening of Thursday, December 13, 2001, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruth L. Riekeman; children, Dr. Guy Frederick Riekeman and wife, Annie of Davenport, IA, Dr. Cathy Ann Riekeman-Cadenhead and husband, Donald of Bosque Farms, NM, Timothy Alvin Riekeman of San Angelo, TX, Rev. James Donald Riekeman and wife, Karen of Williston, ND, Russell Scott Riekeman and wife, Robin of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Vanessa Helfrich, Laura and Steven Cadenhead, Timothy Riekeman, Jr, Dylan, Morgan, Brady Riekeman, and Luna Riekeman; four great-grandchildren; brother, Elmer Riekeman and wife, Kathie of Irvine, CA; sister, Dorothy Romberger of Seattle, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Lily Riekeman and granddaughter, Alexis Riekeman. Al was born and raised on a farm outside of Abilene, KS. He served in the US Air Force during WWII for five years, stationed most of that time in England. Al graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1947 and practiced Chiropractic in Albuquerque from 1948 until he was forced to retire because of ill health in 1986. He served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher in Baptist churches all of his adult life. At his death, he was a member of Del Norte Baptist Church. He loved his church and the sorrow of his later years was that he could not attend services. He was an excellent father, a loving husband, a faithful Christian and a hardworking chiropractor, who was proud of his profession. His life revolved around his family, his church, his patients but he also loved to garden and watch the Dallas Cowboys. Services will be held Monday, December 17, 2001, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Rev. James D. Riekeman officiating. Robinson -- Sarah Robinson, 92, a native of Albuquerque, passed away December 14. Stansbury -- Kenneth E. Stansbury, 87, a resident of Albuquerque died Sunday, December 16, 2001. He is survived by his sons, Raymond E. Stansbury and wife, Marie of South Milwaukee, WI, and Roger A. Stansbury and wife, Rosemarie of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Pamala Stansbury, Melissa Horbinski and husband, Robert; Kenneth Stansbury and Amelia Stansbury; great- grandchildren, Faith, Robert, Noah, Evan and many other relatives. Mr. Stansbury was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred, and brothers, Norman Peters, Edward Stansbury, Robert Stansbury. A Christian Counselor in Lubbock, Texas, Albuquerque, and Grants, she authored a parenting course, and was a Lecturer at Christian conferences, seminars and retreats. She was preceded in death by her father, Dr. M. Norvel Young. Tapia -- Julia Tapia Sawtelle, 53, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family December 15, 2001. A native New Mexican, she worked at the Biological Park and the Albuquerque Rio Grande Zoo as a cashier. She loved caring for animals and helped many people. Torres -- Rose Mary Torres, Ph.D., a resident of Bernalillo, entered eternal life on Sunday, December 16, 2001. She was employed at the University of New Mexico. Mrs. Torres was an active member of the Catholic Daughters of America, and was currently serving as a National Director. She was also very active in the Pan American Round Table, Albuquerque 1. Mrs. Torres was preceded in death by her mother and father, Emma and Romeo Ortiz, sister, Bessie Perea, and husband, Ben Torres. Verre -- Raymond D. Verre, 85, passed away peacefully December 15, 2001. He was born June 6, 1916 to John and Buehla Verre in Hartford, Conn. He was a World War II veteran and a long time employee of Los Alamos National Lab, retiring in 1978. After retirement, he enjoyed his home gardening, cooking and traveling. He never lost his sense of humor during his long illness. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette, of 35 years; his two pets, Candy and Missy; several nieces and nephews; his close and dear friends, Reid and Marla Griffith, Sec and Stella Sandoval, Carol Ann Mullaney, and most all, Sharon Flowers and her wonderful staff at Rosemont Assisted Living Community who gave Ray the best care anyone could ask for. Cremation has taken place. A Funeral Mass will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 2700 Canyon Road, Los Alamos at 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 19. Private burial will be held at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Warren -- Evelyn C. Warren born September 20, 1912 went home to be with the Lord and with her husband, Father John N. Warren on Saturday, December 15, 2001. Eve is survived by her sister, Denise C. Mahoney and husband, David of Vermont, and her daughter, Denise Warren Berthold and husband, Richard of Albuquerque. Eve's four grandchildren are Maria Warren and husband, Niels Galloway of Albuquerque; Tom Warren and wife, Karen and their children Brian, Chelsea and Taylor of Phoenix, Arizona; Gerald Warren and wife, Heidi of Albuquerque, and John Warren and wife, Linda and their child, Noah of Sandia Park. Eve was born in New York City and lived much of her life in the New York area. She served with her husband, the Rector of Christ Church in Oyster Bay, Long Island, NY for 25 years before they moved to Albuquerque. Eve spent her life serving the Lord through the Anglican Church, and through volunteer work including over twenty years of service for Meals on Wheels. Eve will be greatly missed. Funeral will be held at St. Peter's Anglican Catholic Church, NW corner of Paseo del Norte and Eubank, at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 20, 2001, with burial following at Fairview Cemetery in Albuquerque.
