Bains -- On May 31, 2001 Gloria Bains went to be with her Lord and Savior after 73 years of celebrating life on this earth. Her love for life was matched only by the love for her family. She was born on June 1, 1927 in Shreveport, LA to Thomas Franklin and Henrietta Wagenfuhr Bullock. Mrs. Bains had lived in the Albuquerque area since 1949 and was a member of Mesa Diggers Garden Club and sang in the Bell Canto Coral Chorale. She was preceded in death by a grandaughter, Ashley Claire in 1992 and is survived by her husband of 52 years, Bill Bains of Albuquerque; and a daughter, Deb Bains also of Albuquerque. Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 3, 2001 at Chapel of Sandia, 7601 Wyoming Blvd NE. Barela -- Dave Barela, went home on Monday, May 28, 2001 in Carnuel, NM. Dave is survived by his loving wife, Vivian of 28 years; sons, Davy Barela, Ernest Barela and wife, Michelle, Anthony Barela and April; Vivian's parents, Augustine and Stella Herrera; two grandchildren whom he loved very much, Ocean Barela and Ray Barela. Dave is also survived by his mother, Alvera Bailey and husband, Ron; sisters, Angela Garcia and husband, Elmer, Yolanda Herrera and Josie Rivera; brothers, Manual Barela and wife, Connie, Ernie Barela and Patricia, and Alex Barela; 15 Godchildren and many nieces and nephews who loved him very much. He is preceded in death by his father, Ernest Barela; sister, Diane Gonzales; brother, Ray Lozano; and his sister-in-law, Yvonne Garcia. Dave died doing what he loved most, riding his Harley Motorcycle. He will be dearly missed by all his family and friends. He had a great sense of humor and made everyone laugh and would cheer you up when you were down. He had a Big Heart and always willing to help everyone. The Rosary was held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2001 at Holy Child Parish in Tijeras, NM. Battin -- Dorothy Marie Warner Battin, 93, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2001 at an Albuquerque nursing home after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Born in Baltimore, Md., to Costello and Marie Warner, she grew up in the suburbs of New York City. In 1940, she married Harold Battin, a widower with two daughters, and they lived Ridgewood, N.J. In the late 1940's, the Battins retired to Santa Fe. There, Dorothy was active in the Church of the Holy Faith, where she was a member of the Alter Guild and the Daughters of the King. She was also a member of the Santa Fe garden club. Dorothy moved to Belen in 1994 to live with her son, B.W. Battin, and his wife, Sandy. She was a member of the Saint Phillip's Episcopal Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Lee Smith; and her two brothers, Gilbert and Russell Warner. She is survived by her son, B. W. Buck Battin and his wife, Sandy of Belen; two step-daughters, Beatrice Halvorsen and her husband, Ken of Santa Fe and Prudence Jackson and her husband, Herb of Tehachapi, Ca; five step-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Romero Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, June 2, 2001. Officiating will be Father George Bach. Brentan -- Ruth Sklovsky Maxon Brentan, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Friday, May 25, 2001. Ruth graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1936. She lived in Los Angeles from 1954 until 1994 when she returned to Albuquerque. Ruth was the very best mother. To Ruth's many friends and family, she is now"fine". Ruth is survived by her daughters, Sandra James of Los Angeles, CA, and Paula Brentan of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Melissa Denison of Des Moines, IA and Matthew Gassner of Albuquerque; great grandson, Cullen Denison of Des Moines, IA, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Emanuel Brentan, who practiced in Albuquerque until his death in 1953, her sister, Edith Covich, and her brother, Ira Maxon. A Memorial will be held Saturday, June 2, 2001, 2:00 p.m. at Montebello on Academy, 10500 Academy Rd. NE. Breuning -- Our beloved wife, mother, sister and friend, Margaret Rose Coyne Breuning died Monday, May 28, 2001 in a tragic rafting accident on the Rio Grande River in New Mexico. She was born on December 26, 1943 in Tacoma, WA. She is preceded in death by her parents, John Patrick and Rose Margaret Coyne; and her brother, John Carlin Coyne. She is survived by her loving husband, Carl Ulrich Breuning; and her daughters, Anne-Lise Aurora and Deirdre Felicia Breuning, all residents of La Estaca, NM; her sisters, Mary Sue Coyne of San Rafael, CA and Teresa Ann Smith of Montara, CA; her brothers, Patrick James Coyne of Hillsborough, CA, Philip Michael Coyne of San Mateo, CA, and Edmund Francis Coyne of Sun Valley, ID; her friend, Geneva Peo, Richmond, CA; her Godchildren, John Daniel Patterson, Margaret LaMotte, David Alexander Chamberlain, Leah Divine Tischler, Anna River Daeuble; and countless relatives and friends. After graduating from Notre Dame High School in Belmont, CA, Peggy graduated from UC Berkeley Magna Cum Laude. She went on to earn a Ph.D. in Art History at the University of Rome and remained a supporter of the arts throughout her life. She taught in Berkeley before being swept off her feet by a most dashing Viking, Carl Breuning. They moved to Northern New Mexico, where they built a dragon house and raised two beautiful daughters. Throughout her 29 years in La Estaca, NM, she worked tirelessly to preserve the land, history and heritage of her cherished community, all the while true to her Irish roots. She started La Escuelita, a preschool, in her own kitchen. She was proud to be Majordomo of La Capilla de San Francisco in La Estaca. She published a book on the history of Estaca with a larger aim of"boosting the cultural immune system" of communities across Northern NM. One of her greater accomplishments was working with Los Vecinos in passing crucial zoning laws to protect rural communities. She was also a member of the Women's Council, the New Moon Group and the Panchitas. Peggy was a healer, world traveler and accomplished poet. She was an inspiration and a joy as she passionately devoured each life experience. Her unstoppable determination and vitality revealed her deep understanding of the power of love. A Rosary will be recited on Monday, June 4, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. at DeVargas Funeral Home, 623 North Railroad Avenue, Espanola, NM (505) 741-7477. On Tuesday, June 5, 2001 at 5:00 p.m. we welcome all to her home for a Memorial Service to celebrate Peggy's extraordinary life. In addition, there will be a Memorial Mass held in her honor at St. Catherine of Sienna Church in Burlingame, CA on Saturday, June 9, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. Peggy, you are our fiery star and we will never forget you as you blaze on ahead.

Campos -- Robert L. Campos, 52, a resident of Albuquerque passed away peacefully at home in the arms of his loving family on May 31, 2001 and is now in the arms of our Lord. Robert is survived by his daughter, Christine Graham and husband, Daryl; two sons, Lee Campos and Robert M. Campos; his father, Jesus Campos; two sisters, Rosie Olguin and Nancy Sanchez and husband, Charles; four brothers , Benny Duran and wife, Yvonne, Rudy Campos and wife, Corrine, Jesse Campos Jr. and Ricky Campos and wife, Gladys; eight grandchildren, Krystal, Vanessa, Daniel, Katherine, Leanne, Alisha, Lee Paul and Shandora; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by this wife, Kathy and his mother, Adelina. Mr. Campos was a member of the Catholic Church. Corder -- Services for Virginia Corder, 79, of Lubbock will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2001, in Englunds Chapel with Shirley Currey officiating. Burial will be in Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton. She died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at her home after an illness. She was born in Los Angeles County, CA. on March 12, 1922. she attended San Fernando High School and married James Lewis McKinley in 1940. The loved in Albuquerque, NM He died in 1950. On December 5, 1953, she married Jack H. Corder in Albuquerque. He preceded her in death on July 13, 1982. One grandson, Clayton J. Corder, also preceded her on July 4, 1999. Mrs. Corder was a Presbyterian and a member of club 55 and the Good Times Bowling League. Her survivors include two daughters, Delsie Schneider of Lubbock and Donna Meiers of Sugarland, TX; two sons, Jack Corder II of Albuquerque and Andy Corder of Tucson; one brother, William Penrose of California; five sister, Ruth Miller of Miami, FL, Esther Russell of Tucson, Hope Palmer of Yermo, CA, Peggy Walton of Victorville, CA, and Pat Walton of Pahrump, NV; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Dow -- Kelvin B. Dow, 40, a resident of Hawaii and a former resident of Albuquerque died Thursday, May 24, 2001 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He is survived by his daughter, Valeria Dow of California; son, Kekoa and Kahanu Dow both of Hawaii; father, Robert Dow of Albuquerque; brothers, Robert Dow of Albuquerque, Dwight Dow of Hawaii and Rudy Dow of Nevada; and numerous, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Andie Cleo Dow. When Kelvin was eight years old his family relocated to Hawaii where he was a lifelong resident. Kelvin was currently a Honolulu Police officer for 20 1/2 years. Rosary will be recited Monday, 7:00 p.m. at St. Joseph on the Rio Grande, 5901 St. Joseph Dr. NW. Etherton -- Ernest E. Etherton, a resident of Rio Rancho passed away at home on May 22, 2001. Ernie was born on February 12, 1948 to George and Oma Etherton in Murphysburo, IL. He served his country for 20 years in the United States Army and was employed as the Safety and Security Director at Nobel Sysco in Albuquerque. Ernie loved to ride with his wife on his Harley Davidson and recently accomplished his lifetime goal of attending the Sturgis Bike Rally last August in South Dakota. He was a bird enthusiast and loved feeding and tending to all of his birds at home and the ones that frequently came to visit him. He also enjoyed working in his garden and tending to his many beautiful roses, plants and trees. Ernie was preceded in death by his mother and father, George and Oma Etherton; and his two brothers, Kenneth and George. He is survived by his beloved wife, Diane of Rio Rancho; son, Christopher of Indianapolis, IL; and three daughters, Tania, Erin and Rita; sister, Frances Gillespie and husband, Robert of Illinois; his loving step-daughters, Lisa Harris and husband, Greg of Denver, CO, Jennifer Dancy and husband, Jim of Rock Hill, SC, Regina McConnel and husband, Dennis of Denver, CO, and Sheila Turck-Reed of Albuquerque. He is also survived by his nine precious grandchildren, Creyton, Courtney, Brittany, Zachary, Haylee, Dalton, Hannah, Cheree and Miranda; and a host of wonderful friends. Fuentes -- Rumaldo J. Fuentes, 76, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother was called home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, May 29, 2001. Mr. Fuentes was born in Mora, NM on February 27, 1925 to the late Guadalupe S. and Estella Fuentes and was a resident of Albuquerque. He retired from the Greyhound Bus Lines as a Ticket Agent after 30 years of loyal service. The love of his life was spending time with his loving family. Mr. Fuentes was preceded in death by a brother, Fr. Eligius Fuentes, O.F.M. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Nettie P. Fuentes of the family home; his daughters, Josephine (Josie) Moya and husband, Jerry P. and Pauline Fuentes both of Albuquerque; three precious grandchildren, Giovanna, Shaun and Celina-Marie Moya all of Albuquerque. Also surviving are two sisters, Emelia Fullilove and husband, John and Maria Fuentes; two brothers, Narciso Fuentes and Raymond Fuentes; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and those who knew and loved him. Special thanks is extended to the Albuquerque Kidney Center on Lomas Blvd. NE, Dr. Mark Saddler, Dr. Terry Scarborough, Lorraine Velarde and Marcy Griego for the loving care given to Rumaldo J. Fuentes. Henderson -- Nell Cravens Henderson, 89, a resident of Albuquerque, since 1948 formally of the Pedernal, Encino, NM area, passed away Monday, May 28, 2001 in Albuquerque. She was born September 10, 1911 to William Murry and May (Turney) Cravens in Winchell, TX. She is survived by her children, Don Henderson of Tarpon Springs, FL, Steve Henderson of Moriarty, NM; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Nell was a member of the Eastern Star, the White Shrines and was a School teacher for many years She will be missed by those who knew and loved her. Services will be held at the Harris-Hanlon Chapel Friday June 1, 2001, 10:00 a.m. with Pastor James Thompson officiating. Burial will take place at the Encino Cemetery in Encino, NM. Hume -- Kathleen (Gray) Hume died May 12, 2001 at the family home in Albuquerque after an extended illness. She was born in Socorro, NM on October 13, 1943. Kathleen was preceded in death by her son, Robert; her father, Bainard Gray; and her brothers, Glen, Bainard Jr., Neil, and Jack. She is survived by her mother, Jessie Harris Gray of Albuquerque; husband, Robert Sr.; son, Phillip of Albuquerque; brother, Gordon of Abilene, TX; and many nieces and nephews. Kathleen graduated from New Mexico State University and received her MLS from the University of Illinois. Kathleen worked as a librarian at the University of Albuquerque and as a medical librarian at Presbyterian Hospital Systems. She was active in Democratic politics and served as Secretary of the Bernalillo Democratic Party. Cremation has occurred. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2001 at the Lyndon B. Johnson Middle School, 6811 Taylor Ranch Dr. NW. Jayne -- Connie L. Jayne, 56, a resident of Albuquerque for 32 years, died Monday, May 28, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Ilene Jayne of Albuquerque, NM; daughters, Robyn Sturgeon and husband, Ivan of Albuquerque, NM and Karyn Jayne of Oklahoma City, OK; granddaughters, Rebekah and Sarah Sturgeon both of Albuquerque, NM; brothers, Keith Jayne and wife, Cindy of Jackson, TN and Michael Jayne and wife, Jacqueline of Albuquerque, NM; sisters, Sheila Freed and husband, Dan of Portland, OR and Sherry Flenoury and husband, Richard of Albuquerque, NM. Connie was born and raised in Indiana and Ohio and served in the United States Air Force from 1964 till 1968. He married Ilene White on June 9, 1968 and they moved to Albuquerque in 1969. He worked at General Electric and Aqua Media until starting his own business, TechniPure. For the last 4 years he has worked at Hosanna. He has been a member of Heights First Church of the Nazarene for 30 years. A Memorial Celebration of his life will be held at Heights First Church of the Nazarene, 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 2, 2001, with Pastor Bill Nielson, officiating. Kijek -- Walter Frank Kijek, a longtime resident of Albuquerque peacefully passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2001. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He is survived by his wife, Frances Kijek; three daughters, Casilda Hughes, Veronica C. Gallegos and husband; Ruben Gallegos, Sandra Kijek-Schult and husband; Allen; and one son, Michael Kijek, all from Albuquerque. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Robert, Joey, Timmie and Jimmie Hughes, Catherine, Ramon and Ruben Gallegos and Britney Regenold; his sister, Steffie Galleti of Moosic, PA is his only surviving sibling. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. Walter was born on January 17, 1932, in Duryea, PA. He was eighteen years old when he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and became a weather communication specialist. His career in the Air Force took him to North Africa, Virginia, Texas, Alaska Taiwan, Turkey and Germany. After serving twenty years, he retired in 1973. He later went to work for the Department of Energy of Albuquerque. He retired from the D.O.E. after working there for twenty years. A graveside service will be held at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Martinez -- Jerry"Weasel" Martinez, 37, a resident of Albuquerque since 1995, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001. He was preceded in death by his father, Victor Verdugo. Pichardo -- Carlos A. Pichardo, 18, a resident of Los Lunas, New Mexico passed away on May 30, 2001. Carlos is survived by his mother, Celina Salgado; his father, Florencio Pichardo and wife, Sofia; a sister, Angelic Salgado, Ramon Salgado, Daniel Guereca and Tracy Pichardo; his grandmother, Rosalia Brown; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends and his best friends, Freddie and Mario Gonzales. Pino -- Phillip J. Pino, 5, born and raised in Albuquerque N.M. Passed away May 29, 2001. An angel sent from Heaven came and touched our lives with his beautiful smile and heart of gold. He was a brave little boy whose excitement was to start school. He just learned how to ride his bike with out training wheels; his eyes twinkled when it was time to watch his favorite cartoon, Pokemon."Abuela me puetho lluevar un movie pa mi casa?" He liked to sing, his last song he sang was to his mother"You Are My Sunshine" and he was the sunshine of her life. Phillip will be in our hearts forever. Snipes -- Webb Snipes, 76, a life long resident of NM, died at home after a brief illness on Wednesday, May 30, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Joy Snipes of Lemitar, NM; sons, Perry Snipes and wife, Norma, Les Snipes and wife, Cheri, all of Albuquerque, NM; step daughter, Brenda Ray and husband, Garland; stepson, Kent Gray and wife, Shirley, of Albuquerque, NM; five grandchildren, Donovan, Brent, Jodi, James and Shalene; four step-grandchildren, Jason, Mathew, Natasha and Breanna; four great-grandchildren, Dawson, Peri Jo, Deric and Tanner; and sister, Nannie Ruth Claunch. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Nanny Snipes and by his first wife, Ora Lee Snipes. Mr. Snipes was a member of Full Gospel Businessmenťs Fellowship, Cowboys for Christ and attended First Assembly of God of Polvadera. He was retired from the horse and trailer business and farmed the last years of his life. Mr. Snipes was loved by his family and friends and all will miss him very dearly. Services will be held Saturday, June 2, 2001, 1:00 p.m. at Valley Christian Church, 2850 Gun Club Road, SW, with Reverend Kent Gray and Reverend David Eggers officiating. Steele -- Donald L. Steele, 61, a resident of Albuquerque since 1978 after moving from Illinois died on Tuesday, May 29, 2001. He is survived by his daughter, Kyla Mason and husband, Chris and daughter, Kari Steele. He is also survived by brothers, Virgil and Robert Steele; sisters, Nancy Parko and Leta McClellan; and grandsons, Zachery and Jeff Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Bertha Steele; brother, Cecil; and son, Kyle and grandson, Avery Mason. He had many nieces, nephews and friends who will miss him. Donald enjoyed the outdoors, duck hunting and loved to travel and had seen every national park in this country except one. He was a member of the North West Optimists Club and Migratory Waterfowl hunters. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be at a later date. Tafoya -- Cyndie L. Tafoya, 42, a life long resident of Albuquerque passed away May 31, 2001. She was born September 5, 1958. She is survived by her husband, Tony Tafoya; son, Jonathan Guiney; daughter, Jolie Tafoya; parents, John and Ann Guiney all of Albuquerque; two sisters-Carol Brusca of Albuquerque and Gretchen and husband, Dr. Douglas Slaughter of NY, NY; two brothers, John Guiney and wife, Andrea of Chandler, AZ and Laurence Guiney and wife, Jo of Albuquerque; one grandchild-Connor Guiney of Albuquerque; two nephews- Giovanni Brusca and Christian Guiney of Albuquerque; one niece, Erin Guiney of Chandler, AZ also by numerous other relatives and friends. Vanpool -- Logan Earl VanPool, 69, of Albuquerque, NM, formerly of Twin Falls, passed away May 27, 2001 at the Veterans Regional Medical Center in Albuquerque, NM. He was born July 4, 1931 in St. Louis, MO, the son of William Howard and Ruby Ree Atkinson VanPool. Logan enjoyed collecting pewter coins and was enthralled with military history. He served as a career Navy Diver retiring after 16 dedicated years, with a medical discharge. During his time of service, he served during the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. Logan was also active in the VFW, American Legion and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 12th Ward in Twin Falls. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Loraine of Albuquerque, NM; son, Todd (Christine) VanPool of Albuquerque, NM; daughters, Jacquelin Whitten of Idaho Falls, Andrea Ray VanPool of Vermont; along with one grandchild. Logan will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral Services will be held Friday, June 1, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. at the Twin Falls 12th Ward LDS Church 824 Caswell Ave. West, Twin Falls, ID. Friends may call one hour prior to service at the church. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
