Hollied -- Grace Hollied died March 1, 2001, at the age of 97. She was born in Iowa in 1903 and had been a resident in New Mexico for many years. She married Clarence Hollied in 1927. Mr. Hollied died in 1954 in Taos, New Mexico. She generated memoranda outlining policies of the Library, which were, in many instances, passed on to the Bernalillo County Medical Society. She was often referred to as a"sounding board" for the operation of the Library. The then librarian regarded her as his"right hand" as she truly filled the position of his administrative assistant. After retirement she was more active than ever, doing volunteer work for the hospital, and making weekly calls to express concern about people who were"shut ins." She also did work for the late C.G. Wallace, a Zuni Indian trader who owned the De Anza Motor Lodge, and continued to have contact with his sons. She was alert and active up to the very moment of her death. As she requested, there will be no Service, and Burial will take place at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, where Mr. Hollied was buried. If you are so inclined, please give a memorial in her name to a charity or church of your choice. Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Directors, 3113 Carlisle NE, are in charge of her arrangements.

She was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, where she and her family suffered through the Great Depression. She met and married her husband, James, and began her family. After a try in the insurance business and a brief stay in Michigan with farming, Helen, Jim, their children and her father piled in the car and moved across country to the Land of Enchantment to seek their fortune. Helen initially stayed at home where she put her heart and soul into raising her children. Her husband, Jim, began a successful career as a history professor and Vice President at the College of St. Joseph on the Rio Grande (which later became the University of Albuquerque.) After her last child started school, Helen began to work outside the home. After a brief stint in the wholesale food business, Helen became the first secretary for the principal at St. Pius X High School, where she served faithfully until retiring in 1965. She and her husband were great believers in parochial education and made many sacrifices to ensure that their children would attend Catholic school all the way through college. Four of her natural children have been married in excess of 30 years and her oldest son has been a priest for three and half decades. Her family would like to thank the staff of Vista del Rio Retirement for their caring support over the last few weeks of her life. Montoya -- Ramie MontoyaDear Mom,It has been nine years since you left this world. I can't believe how the time has gone by. Sometimes the loss of you is still just as raw and painful as the first year. But when I think about how much pain and how you suffered I am comforted to know you no longer have to suffer. I feel you with me everyday and not a day goes by that I don't think of you. Our family truly hurt and suffered when we lost you. You were such the center of all our worlds. It has taken nine years to get back some of what we lost as a family when you left us. We will never be the same. I will never be the same. Through it all we have all grown through the loss. We are close again and it makes me so happy. When we are all together your memory sometimes fills the room and I know you are with us. I miss you Mom and I love you. Your Daughter, Maxine
