Obituary for Byars

Garry Lynn Byars, 53, passed away March 2, 2001. He was a native of Amarillo, Texas, however, a resident of Albuquerque. He was a survivor of the Vietnam War, and was tormented by the effects of a four-year tour that gained him nothing more than much grief and sorrow. He was known to all as a wonderful fellow with a precious loving heart and a joyous sense of humor. Garry was preceded in death by his loving mother, Ruby Waulene McWhirter, and is survived by his beloved wife, Irene; son, Chris and grandson, Carson Caine; step-sons, Damian, Fabian, and Adrian; father, Wayne Byars and wife, Cathy; brother, Steve and wife, Janet; sister, Pam and husband, John; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends who loved and will miss him. The Funeral Services will be held at Albuquerque Bible Church, 320 Montano NW. on Wednesday, March 7, 2001 at 10:00 a.m., with Jerry Smyrl officiating. Burial will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery with full military honors being provided by the American Legion Post 69, where Garry was a member.
