Connors -- Karl F. Connors, 83, of Fairfield, IA died Tuesday, July 14, 1999 at his home. He was born August 13, 1915, in Malone, N.Y., to Michael and Anna Johnston Connors. He married Jean Maurer in 1947 in London, England; she preceded him in death in 1984. He was a cryptographic technician in the U.S. Army for 30 years, serving in W.W. II's European theater and later in Washington, N.Y.; Anchorage, Alaska; Paris; Saigon, Vietnam and White Sands, NM, before retiring in 1973. He moved to Fairfield, IA in 1992. He is survived by two sons, Larry Connors of Boone, N.C., and Andy Connors of Albuquerque; a daughter, Christine Connors of Boone, NC; and a sister, Pixie Blake. He was preceded in in death by a sister, Mary; and two brothers, Bernie and Walt. The body has been cremated and a memorial service is being planned for a later date. Burial is in the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM, next to his wife. Many people in Albuquerque knew him as a grower of loofah sponges, which he enjoyed giving away to anyone interested.

Day -- Evelyn Blanche Cooper Day, 77, a resident of Rio Rancho, died suddenly Tuesday, December 28th of a ruptured aortic aneurism. Evelyn was a woman who touched everyone with affection and warmth and was a leader in education and in the communities in which she lived. She was born August 28, 1922 in Santa Rita, New Mexico. Evelyn was the Valedictorian of Mentone, Texas High School, graduated from Texas Tech University with a BA in Education and Speech, from Kent State University (Ohio) with an MA in Educational Counseling. Evelyn worked as an Honors English Teacher at Bay Village, Ohio, as a Guidance Councilor at St. Raphaels; Bay Village, Ohio; St. James Elementary and Sr. Augustine Academy, Lakewood, Ohio, Director of Counseling at Bay Middle School, Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, and as a GED Counselor at the Grafton Prison (Ohio) and Literacy Program, Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. Evelyn served as an Ensign in the US Navy Waves, 1943-1946, as one of the First Women in the Military. She attended Bootcamp at Hunter College (New York) and Officer Training at Smith College, Northampton, Massachusetts. Evelyn is survived by her husband, James William Day, Jr., of Mandeville, LA; children, Alan Day and his wife, Nancy Vescuso of Weston, MA, Barrett Day of Mandeville, LA, Rhonda Day of Rio Rancho; one sister, Marion Ray of Deming, NM; one brother, John Cooper of Tyler, TX; Uncle George Cooper and wife, Callie Ree of Albuquerque; two grandchildren, Adam Day of Weston, MA, and Megan Day of Colorado Springs, CO. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 2, 2000 at the Buena Vista Apartments, 1355 Meadowlark Lane, Rio Rancho, NM. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made tot he Literacy GED program at which Evelyn worked. Jenson -- Neal Jenson, Jr., former resident of Albuquerque, passed away December 30, 1999 in LaJolla, CA. He was born in 1912 in Estancia, NM to Neal and Elizabeth Jenson, now deceased. Neal is survived by his wife, Carol of LaJolla, CA; twin daughters, Kay Jenson of Belen and Dee Cooper and husband, Robert of Augusta, Montana; sister, Marie Hays of Albuquerque; and many other relatives. He attended UNM, served in the US Army during World War II and had a long career in the U.S. Indian Service. Burial will be in LaJolla, CA

Locke -- Elise"Nonnie" Louise Locke, born August 23, 1914 in Batesville, Arkansas, passed away December 27, 1999 in Albuquerque. She was a longtime member of Phillips Chapel C.M.E. Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Freda Edward Locke; and a daughter, Lois Bailey; and son-in-law, Wilbert Garrett. She is survived by three daughters, Margaret W. Garrett, Anita B. Thomas and Ethel F. Foster, all of Albuquerque; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Virginia P. Montgomery of Batesville, AR; and sister-in-law, Norine Patten Williams; son-in-law, Curtis Bailey, both of Albuquerque. Visitation for Mrs. Locke will be held Sunday, January 2, 2000, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Monday, January 3, 2000, 12:00 noon, at Phillips Chapel C.M.E. with Pastor William Dorn Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Santa Fe National Cemetery. Meoli -- Carmela Cariota Meoli, 94, a resident of Albuquerque since July of 1999, peacefully in her sleep went to our Father in Heaven on Thursday, December 30, 1999. For the past twenty days, she was lovingly cared for at Manzano del Sol Good Samaritan Village. Carmela was born in Brooklyn, NY on October 22, 1905 to Frank and Mary Cariota. She married Nicholas Meoli at the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Brooklyn, NY on October 18, 1925. She is survived by her son, Bernard Meoli of Huntington, NY; daughters, Margaret Meoli of Hollywood, CA, Theresa Ripi of Albuquerque, and Marie Bauch of Deer Park, NY; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Rosary was recited Thursday, at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. mass will be celebrated Friday, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 4020 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Father Francis X. Eggert, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE.
