Montoya -- Mr. Ernest (El Canario) A. Montoya, 78, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on December 30, 1998. Mr. Montoya was the beloved husband of 62 years to Mrs. Martha Montoya. He is also survived by one son, Deacon Manuel Montoya and wife, Eileen; one daughter, Frances Perea; four grandchildren, Ernie, Louie, Roberta and Yvonne; ten great-grandchildren; one sister, Clara Jaramillo and husband, Sam; three brothers, Louie Montoya and wife, Alice, Bennie Montoya, Hipolito Montoya, Jr. and wife, Emily; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Montoya was a member of the Catholic Church and loved to hunt. A Rosary will be recited Friday evening, 6:00 p.m., at St. Therese Little Flower Catholic Church, 300 Mildred NW with visitation at the church after 5:30 p.m. Deacon Manuel and his wife, Eileen, will recited the Rosary. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, 9:30 a.m., at St. Therese Church with final viewing at the church from 9:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. Father Stoeber, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Wayne Moore, Ernie Perea, Porfirio Armijo, Bernard Sisneros, Carlos Armijo and Louie Ray Montoya. Gabaldon Mortuary, 1000 Old Coors Rd. SW, in charge of the arrangements.

Payne -- Reid H. Payne, 88, a resident of Albuquerque since 1947, died Wednesday, December 30, 1998. He is survived by his sons, Donald Payne and R.J. Payne and wife, Beverly; daughter, Leston Bass and husband, Jerry, all of Albuquerque; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Mr. Payne was a member of Rio Grande Baptist Church. Services will be held Saturday, 10:30 a.m. at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Pastor Ernest Key officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE, Friday, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Smith -- Lois B. Smith, 90, a resident of Albuquerque since 1949, died Tuesday, December 29, 1998. She is survived by her sons, Robert Don Smith and wife, Barbara of Greenville, NC and Daniel Polk Smith and wife, Barbara of Tuscon, AZ; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, on June 3, 1988, after 59 years of happily married life. Mrs. Smith was born October 15, 1908 to Mikiel E. Beaver and Samintha Pearson Beaver in Erath Co., TX. When she was four years old, her parents moved to Kent Co., TX in a covered wagon where she grew up and finished high school. Mrs. Smith was baptized into Christ in 1922 at the age of 14 and remained a member of the Church of Christ until her death. She married John Smith on May 24, 1929 at Girard, TX. Mrs. Smith taught school in Texas for 9 years. She then moved to Albuquerque and worked for the U.S. Government for 16 years, one year with the Department of Agriculture, and 15 years with the Corps of Engineers. Services will be held Saturday, 10:30 a.m. at Montgomery Blvd. Church of Christ, 7201 Montgomery Blvd. NE. Interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Albuquerque Christian Children Home, 5700 Winter Haven Rd. NW, 87120 or to"Tree of Life" at Manzini Bible School, c/o Montgomery Church of Christ. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Thiel -- Hester Jane Thiel, born January 17, 1916 in Big Spring, Texas and a resident of Albuquerque for 78 years, died peacefully Tuesday evening, December 29, 1998. Surviving Hester is her husband of 54 years, Victor Thiel; son, Keith Thiel, wife, Diane and grandchildren, Kim and Tracie; a sister, Dorothy Lahr, husband, Howard, and their sons and families. Wilson -- Jean Wilson, 8-1-24, longtime resident of Cedar Crest, died Sunday after privately bottling a long illness. Anderson -- Virginia Irene Anderson, 71, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, December 28, 1998. She is survived by her loving family, daughter, Sandra D. Anderson; sister, Leona Allan; and brother, Randall S. Rubottom. Her life's goal and accomplishments were to bring happiness and love to all her family and friends. At Mrs. Anderson's request there will be no memorial services, but a gathering of relatives, friends and Eastern Star brothers and sisters would be greatly appreciated at the family residence on January 3, 1998, 3:00 p.m., 298-4301. Her burial site will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery, where she will be interred with her husband of 43 years, Dixon L. Anderson. Her legacy of love will forever be in our hearts.
