Altman -- Dr. Emmett Altman, age 76, a resident of Albuquerque for 32 years, died Monday, April 26, 1999 in a local hospital following an illness. Mr. Altman is survived by his wife of 54 years, Dr. Adele Altman of Albuquerque; one daughter, Dr. Karen Altman of Los Angeles, CA; two sons, Dr. Brian Altman and Dr. Alan Altman and wife, Kathy, all of Albuquerque; one brother, Fred Altman of New Hampshire. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Ryan, Meaghan, Kelly, Kaela, Kyle and Kevin Altman; and several nieces and nephews. Dr. Altman began his practice of Orthopedic surgery in Jamaica, NY in 1955. He continued his practice in Albuquerque from 1967 to 1999. He was a member of numerous medical and civic organizations and was a veteran of WWII and Korea. Dr. Altman was an avid hunter and scuba diver. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 29, 1999 at 1:00 p.m. in Congregation B'Nai Israel, 4401 Indian School Rd. NE, with Rabbi Isaac H. Celnik and Cantor Josh Perlman officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery with Dr. Brian Altman, Dr. Alan Altman, Ryan Altman, Meaghan Altman, Kelly Altman, Kyle Altman, and Kevin Altman serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Karen Altman and Fred Altman. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Anti-Defamation League of B'Nai B'Rith, P.O. Ball -- Douglas R. Ball, 47, a native of Albuquerque, died Saturday, April 24, 1999 after a long illness. A devoted son, brother, uncle, friend and neighbor, he was preceded in death by his parents, Myrl W. and Gladys F. Ball; and his oldest sister, Anne Marie Ball. He is survived by his sister, Alice C. Rakes of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; three brothers, Roy E. Ball and Nelson T. Ball of Albuquerque, and Kenneth M. Ball of Conifer, Colorado; three nephews; two nieces and many wonderful friends and relatives of all ages. Doug was a graduate of Valley High School and the University of Albuquerque, a Sunday school teacher and a choir member at Harwood United Methodist Church. A Memorial Service will be held at Harwood United Methodist Church, 420 San Lorenzo NW, Alb, NM 87107, Saturday, May 1, at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Harwood.

Blair -- C. Ruth Blair, 82, a resident of Albuquerque for 78, years, died Friday, April 23, 1999. She is survived by her son, Samuel H. Blair and wife, Barbara of Tome, NM; daughter, Beryl Whitlow and husband, Gary of Rio Rancho; granddaughters, Bonnie Selva of Tome, NM, Mary Ruth Olsen and husband, Tom of Peru, SA, Frances Savage of Albuquerque, Sacha Blair of Tome, NM, Shana Obermiller and husband, Scott of College Station, TX; and grandson, Lt. Reagan Whitlow and wife, Deeanne of Eagle River, AK; great-grandchildren, Shawn Selva, Nisse, Haley and Benjamin Olsen, Sulie, and Jason Savage. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Sam B. Blair. Mrs. Blair was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church and of United Methodist Women-Elizabeth Circle, and North Albuquerque Lioness Club for 43 years and also a member of the Questers and Sanctuary SS Classes. She was the secretary for the UNM Alumni Office for many years. Services will be held Thursday, 1:00 p.m., at First United Methodist Church, 314 Lead SW, with Rev. Clyde Stanfield officiating. Bowman -- Billy Paul Bowman, age 63, a resident of Albuquerque since 1972, loving husband and father, passed away April 23, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Janet Bowman; three sons, Mark and wife, Jessica Bowman of Los Lunas, William and wife, Kim Bowman of Albuquerque, Rodney and wife, Cindy Rutledge of El Paso; daughter and son-in-law, Rose and Lou Jaramillo of Dallas; two brothers, Wilson Bowman and wife, Verna of Scottsdale, AZ, George Bowman and wife, Loree of Phoenix, AZ; two sisters, Faye Goracke of Camp Verde, AZ, Jenny Meller of Arizona; seven grandchildren, Eleanor, Brandi Bowman of Albuquerque, Lucas Bowman of Albuquerque, Ryan and Meghan Rutledge and Corina Jaramillo of Dallas, TX; preceded in death by his parents, Gertrude and George Bowman of Arizona. He will be missed deeply by all who knew him for his kindness and generosity. He will be deeply missed by his family. Our hearts are broken for losing such a wonderful man, but we were blessed to have had him in our lives. Boydston -- Margaret V. Boydston, 73, a resident of Rio Rancho since 1975, passed away on Sunday, April 25, 1999. Margaret and her family came to New Mexico from Pine Mount, New York. Margaret was born September 18, 1925 the daughter of Arthur and Helen McNiece Jacobs in Queens, New York. She was preceded in death by one son, Edward Boydston and one brother, Arthur Jacobs. Margaret is survived by her husband, William"Bill" Boydston of Rio Rancho; four children, Bill Boydston, Jr. of Highland Mills, NY, Ginny Boydston of Jackson, MS, Richard Boydston of Verman, NJ, and Patricia Dietrich of Ft. Worth, TX; one sister, Mary Alice Aronson of Miami, FL, and 12 grandchildren, William III, Brian, Greg, Chris, Kristin, Jenna, Tiffany, Danielle, Jason, Jamie, David, and Shannan. Farless -- Mr. William V."Bill" Farless, 70, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on April 26, 1999. Mr. Farless was the beloved husband of 18 years to Sue J. Farless. Mr. Farless is also survived by two daughters, Cheryl K. Meador and husband, Gary and Wendy Thigpen and husband, Justin; three sons, Ron Farless and wife, Robyn, William E. Farless and Danny Purcella and wife, Monteal; two sisters, Dell Fields and Qutah Joyner and husband, Al; 19 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Farless was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred; daughter, Charlene; sister, Peggy Wright; brother, Tom (T.L.) Farless; two grandsons, Timothy and Bonnie. Mr. Farless was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving in WWII, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union #611, past member of Masonic Lodge Temple 6 and past member of Bernalillo County Sheriffs Posse. Freedman -- Arnold Freedman, a resident of Albuquerque for 20 years, passed away on April 27, 1999. Arnold loved maintaining his Jewish culture and heritage. He loved is wife, Sylvia; his three sons, Ted and his wife, Lori, Mark and his wife, Ellie, and Larry; his two grandchildren, Barak and Sahar; his brother, Sol; and his sister, Norma. He had a corny sense of humor and made sure everyone heard it. His spirit will live on with everyone he came in contact with. Arnold worked with the Vaughan Company Realtors for the past 17 years. He received great satisfaction in the personal contacts he made while working there. When people remember Arnold, it will be with a smile on their face. Arnold took particular interest in studying Jewish immigration to the United States and the struggle of Jews to overcome all obstacles throughout history. He received great pleasure in teaching this heritage to others, especially youth. Services will be held on Thursday, April 29 at 9:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Sandia Funeral Care. Graveside services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Gann -- John W. Gann, 88, a resident of Albuquerque since 1986, died Sunday, April 25, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth F. Gann; sons, Jay Gann and Robert Gann; and other family including Gracen Johnsen, Carole Gann, Kimberly Garber, Melinda Reeder, David Gann, Sybil Evans; and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Gann served his country during WWII in the US 8th Air Force. He was a former resident of Dallas, TX, where he was a member of Urban Park Baptist Church and worked 45 years for Southwestern Bell Telephone. Mr. Gann was also a member of the original Dallas Newsboys Club. He loved to attend Hoffmantown Church on television. Hoyland -- Eunice Yawn Hoyland, a former resident of New Mexico and the Albuquerque area, passed away Thursday, April 8, 1999 in Woodland Hills, CA. She is survived by her son, George Oltman of Woodland Hills, CA; grandchildren, Carolyn, Joan and husband, John, David, Brian and wife, Barbara, and Neil and wife, Tracey; four great-grandchildren, Dana, David, Matthew and Marissa; and sister, Rita Luttrell of Natchez, MS. Mr. Hoyland was born February 12, 1905 in Bosque Chitto, MS to Hugh and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Yawn, also of Natchez. She was an active 38 year resident of Albuquerque before moving to Natchez in 1970 to care for her mother. Mrs. Hoyland began married life in New Mexico where she lived for 44 years. In Albuquerque, she engaged in many civic activities, including being treasurer of the Albuquerque Civic Symphony and a chairperson of Soroptimist International. At different times, Mrs. Hoyland was manager of the Fred Harvey Indian Store Room and office manager of the Albuquerque Lumber Company. During her last years in New Mexico, she was office manager of the Baptist General Convention of New Mexico which exposed her to some of the many people she had helped through crises in their lives. In Natchez, Mrs. Hoyland participated in many church and civic activities. For the First Baptist Church, she was a member of the Building Committee and served as chairperson of the Pulpit Committee. Mrs. Hoyland also served as chairperson of the Natchez Chapter of A.A.R.P. and was leader of an effort to secure an unused city swimming pool for use by senior citizens. She appeared as an occasional actress in the Natchez pilgrimage play,"Southern Comfort" and served as a docent at several historical mansions, including 18 years at D'Evereaux. In 1980, Mrs. Hoyland was honored as Senior Citizen of the Year by the Natchez Junior Chamber of Commerce for her many civic activities. She was a woman that made a difference in the lives of many that she encountered. She will be sorely missed by her family, but possibly just as intensely by some whose lives she touched. Memorial services will be held Saturday, 3:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Rev. Jack Ratliff officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE, where she has chosen to be buried beside her late husband, Charles E. Maurer -- Doug Lou Maurer passed away Sunday, April 25, 1999 at a hospital in Albuquerque. She was born January 10, 1930 in Grand Junction, Colorado, just three months after her father, for whom she was named, died as a result of an accident. She married Edward E. Maurer September 18, 1949 and they would have been celebrated their 50th anniversary this year. Doug Lou and Ed lived in Grand Junction, CO, Grants, NM, and Tooele, UT prior to retirement in Rio Rancho. The Maurers are members of St. Matthew Episcopal Church in Grand Junction. Doug Lou loved playing golf with the Rio Rancho Country Club"Niners" and as an avid bridge player, was a member of three bridge groups. In addition to her beloved husband, Ed, Mrs. Maurer is survived by their cherished daughter, Laura Freeman and her husband, Greg and her grandson, Paul Ryan Freeman, all of Littleton, CO. Also surviving is her darling Westie named Dollie. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 28, 1999, 11:00 a.m., at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Rio Rancho, with Fr. Walter F. Smith, officiating. The church is located on Golf Course Rd. at 19th Street in Rio Rancho. Mccampbell -- Carroll Beecher McCampbell, beloved husband and father, grandfather and friend, passed away at 4:45 a.m. on Monday, April 26, 1999 after a long, full and loving life. Born on the first day of June 1924 in Julesburg, Colorado, he received his engineering degree at the University of Colorado at Boulder. On his first engineering job he surveyed the Sinai Peninsula and discovered huge oil fields there. He joined Sandia National Laboratories in 1949, became a Department Manager and received numerous patents. He distiguished himself in many projects, including lunar module separation systems for the Apollo Moon flights, and nuclear detonation technologies. He retired from Sandia Labs after 33 years. He then became a founder and the President of SCB Technologies where he technically directed the development of a semi-conductor explosive detonator that is targeted for use in mining, air bag and pyrotechnic industries. He retired from SCB in 1995. Carroll was an avid outdoorsman who fished the streams from New Mexico to Montana. He greatly enjoyed his second home on the Yaak River in Montana, and the fabulous friends he made on the tennis courts in recent years. He and his first wife, Martha Ernestine Frehse raised two children, Joan Ellen and Jeffrey Carroll in the East Mountains of Albuquerque. He married New Mexico artist, Doris Steider in May 1972, with whom he spent 27 loving years, and with whom he traveled the globe and pursued their spiritual journey. Carroll was known by his friends as"Mac" and had a cutting intellect, delightful wit, and beautiful piercing blue eyes. He will be loved and missed by his wife, Doris Steider McCampbell; son, Jeff with his wife, Patty; daughter, Joan with her husband, David; step-son, Robert with his wife, Brenda; step-daughter, Kristen with her husband, Gerald; step-son, Timothy with his wife, Amy; 15 grandchildren, Connor, Mallory, Ryan, Justin, Amy, Jenny, Scott, Tami, Kristy, Shanna, Jay, Lindsey, Cameron, Haley and Brandon; and two great-grandchildren, Richie and Quinlan. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to Presbyterian HOSPICE Foundation, who have been so wonderful in our time of need. Milton -- James Albert Milton passed away quietly on April 24, 1999. He was born November 7, 1910 in Lexington, KY, son of Hugh Melgone Milton I and Gorda Ovana Howard. He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Fannie Lee Milton. They were married April 27, 1935 in Lexington, KY. Children and spouses are Larry Milton and wife, Suzanne of San Antonio, TX, Ovana and husband, Tyler Slocumb of Yokota Air Base, Japan, and Pamela and husband, Gary Felker of Westminster, CO. Grandchildren are James A. Milton of San Antonio, TX, Debra Gove of Caldwell, ID, Janis Glassini of Morenci, AZ, Amy Wilson of Spengdalem Air Base, Germany, Cynthia Hess of Wichita, KS, Alissa Swiger of Sulphur, LA, Belinda Slocumb of Marlborough, MA, and Christopher Slocumb of Albuquerque. There are also 13 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Col. Milton retired from the Air Force at the then Sandia AFB April 30, 1964 after 33 years of service. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps June 18, 1931 at Ft. Bliss, TX as a Corporal. He worked his way up through the enlisted and officer ranks in the Finance Department transferring to the Air Force when that became a separate service November 30, 1948 with the rank of temporary Colonel. After military retirement, he joined the staff of the Bank of New Mexico in Albuquerque, serving as Vice President and Senior Vice President in several capacities until retirement on November 30, 1975. James Milton will be fondly remembered by the Kiwanis Club of Albuquerque, The Rio Grande Woodcarvers' Association, The Knife and Fork Club, and the Petroleum Club of Albuquerque. He was also a member of Temple Lodge #6 AF & AM, Santa Fe Consistory Scottish Rite & The Ballut Abyad Shrine Temple. He was a very active member of Saint Mary's Episcopal Church. A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 29, 1999, 11:00 a.m., at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 1500 Chelwood Park Blvd. NE. Modrow -- Dorothy Jean Weimer Modrow, 75, a resident of Albuquerque for the last 18 years, passed away peacefully at her home on April 20, 1999 surrounded by her loving family. Her husband of 48 years, Harold"Hal" and four children survive her, Harold"Harrry" Edward Modrow III and his wife, Patricia of Maryland, James Modrow of Illinois, Mary Modrow of Albuquerque, and Jean Groepler and her husband, James of Alabama. Dot has three wonderful grandchildren, Eric, Jim and Katherine, all of whom she adored. Dot will be often and frequently missed by all that knew her. A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 29, 1999, 3:00 p.m., at Trinity Episcopal Church, 12120 Copper St. NE, with Rev. William G. Scranton III. Montoya -- Sister Victoriana Montoya In her 75th year as a Sister of Loretto, Sister Victoriana, 95, celebrated her Diamond Jubilee Sunday morning, just before she passed away. Sister was born in Bernalillo in 1903 and was received in the Loretto order in 1924. Sister Victoriana lived and taught in New Mexico and El Paso for all but four months of her 75 years as a teacher and volunteer. She retired to Nazareth Hall in 1990, but continued doing doll making and volunteering. She is survived by her sister, Veronica Hall in Albuquerque; and several nephews and nieces. She will be missed by the Nurses and Staff at Nazareth Hall and by the Sisters of Loretto. Rosary will be in Nazareth Chapel on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. and Mass on Wednesday in the Nazareth Chapel at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery. Sister Victoriana Montoya had wanted to live to celebrated her 75th anniversary as a Sister of Loretto. On Sunday, April 25, Sister enjoyed a ceremony in her honor and thanked and offered her own congratulation to the group. Minutes after arriving back in her room she quietly took her last breath.

Narvaiz -- Luciana (Lucy) Narvaiz, age 88, passed away on Sunday night, April 25, 1999, after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her children, Teresita (Terry) Romero and John David Narvaiz. Lucy was a lifetime resident of Agua Fria Village and San Ysidro Church. She was very active throughout her lifetime in numerous organizations. She was a 4-H Club leader for over 20 years and volunteered her time to help non-English speaking people become fluent in the English language. She enjoyed teaching English and Spanish to young and old. In 1990, she was appointed a Point-of-Light by President George Bush because of her numerous volunteer hours. Education was a big part of Lucy's life. She went back to high school in the 1950's and received her high school diploma. At age 68, she returned to school and at age 74 she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology, cum laude, from the College of Santa Fe. She was fortunate to have traveled to Spain and Mexico. She had a deep appreciation for her heritage and her culture. Her love of her heritage promoted her to organize a group of senior citizens to write their life stories for publication. Before her death, she completed her own life story and published it for her family on her birthday as a birthday gift from herself. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her husband, Dan Narvaiz; children, Gloria Narvaiz and Danny Narvaiz. She is also survived by her grandchildren and their spouses, Ronnie Romero, Cindy Carrillo, Rosalie Doyle, Sandra Pacheco, Dorie Lopez, Eric Romero, Carol Trimborn, Elaine Romero and Jennifer Narvaiz; numerous great-grandchildren; sisters, Carmen Ortiz and Caroline Quintana; and many, many friends and relatives. Visitation will begin on Wednesday, April 28, 2:00 p.m., at Berardinelli Family Funeral Chapel. Lucy will then be taken to San Ysidro Church where visitation will continue at 6:30 p.m. and a Rosary will be prayed for her at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 29, 10:00 a.m., at San Ysidro Church. Interment will follow at Agua Fria Cemetery. Arrangements are pending under the direction of Berardinelli Family Funeral Service, 1399 Luisa, Santa Fe, 984-8600.

Ronquillo -- Mrs. Charlotte Ronquillo, 84, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on April 27, 1999. Mrs. Ronquillo is survived by her two sons, John Ronquillo and wife, Betty and Ken Ronquillo and wife, Carmen; special nephew, Joe N. (Snowy) Sanchez; grandchildren, Linda, John, Mark, Anna, Paula, Oscar David, Alfred, Dennis, Denise, Richard and Kathryn; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny P. Ronquillo; a son, Nolasco Oscar Ronquillo; and a daughter-in-law, Jeanette Ronquillo. Mrs. Ronquillo was a member of the Catholic Church. A Rosary will be recited Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel, 1000 Old Coors Rd. SW, with visitation after 6:30 p.m. Deacon Tibo Chavez, reciting. Sanchez -- Mr. Camilo E. Sanchez Jr. died Monday at Albuquerque at the age of 55. Mr. Sanchez is survived by his mother, Della R. Sanchez; and brothers, Randy Sanchez and Charles R. Sanchez. Funeral services for Mr. Sanchez will be held on Thursday at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Belen Cemetery.
