Dungan -- Joseph M. ("Jim") Dungan, Jr. died peacefully in his home here in Albuquerque on Monday, October 29th, 2001. He had congestive heart disease. He was born in Hazelhurst, Mississippi, but lived most of his life in Albuquerque, having moved here when he was stationed at Kirtland AFB with the"Flying Tacos" Squadron. Jim served his country as a member of the U.S. Marine Corp, the U.S. Air Force, the New Mexico Air National Guard and the Air Force Reserve. His military duties took him all over the world as a young man, and included service in the OSI, flying reconnaissance missions near Russia during the Korean War. In the 1960s he entered the automobile business in Albuquerque, then moved his family to Texas in 1976 where he owned Jim Dungan Ford and UltraSeal, Inc. in Winnie, Texas, outside of Houston. He and the family returned to Albuquerque in 1985. During his retirement he served as a business consultant to local automobile dealers and businesses. Jim was a member of the board of directors of the Catholic organization the Brothers of the Good Shepherd and served as Vice President of the New Mexico Retired Air Force Pilots Association. Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Connie; son, Dr. Joseph M. Dungan, III and Lucille Dungan of San Antonio, TX; Patricia Dungan Miller and David Miller of Albuquerque; Gregg Dungan and Lilly Dungan of Waco, TX; and John M. Dungan and Kelly Dungan of Albuquerque. He leaves behind nine loving grandchildren, Jessica Dungan Miller, Jonathan Dungan Miller, and Joanna Dungan Miller, all of Albuquerque, Matthew Dungan and James Dungan of San Antonio, TX, Brian Dungan and Bridget Dungan of Waco, TX, Amanda Hayes and Katherine Hayes of Albuquerque. Jim is also survived by his brother, Gerald, of Jackson, MS; sister-in-laws, Rose Sena and Rita Sena of Albuquerque, and Donald Corbin of Albuquerque. Jim was an exceptional husband and father and dearly loved by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed by his family and his many dear friends. Rosary will be recited at Fitzgerald and Sons Mortuary, 3113 Carlisle Blvd. NE, at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 1st. Funeral mass will be celebrated by the Reverend Francis X. Eggert, and Deacon Sandy Hall, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church at 520 Morningside Drive NE, at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, November 2nd. Pallbearers will be sons, Joseph M. Dungan, Gregg Dungan, John Dungan, David Miller, Brian Dungan, Jonathan Dungan Miller. Honorary pallbearers include grandsons, Matthew Dungan, James Dungan, Gerald Dungan; dearest friend William McCormick; Martin J. Chavez and Rudy Miller. Interment will be at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. A reception will follow at the family home, following the interment.
