Curtis -- Mary K. Connell, died peacefully at the Montebello on October 23, 2001, a few weeks short of her 90th birthday. She was born in Albuquerque on November 6, 1911 to the late Emma Huning Connell, a member of a pioneer Los Lunas family, and Walter M. Connell, who would later become Mayor of Albuquerque in post World War I days. She was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Curtis of Santa Fe, a well known and long-time correspondent for the Associated Press in Santa Fe. Mrs. Curtis received her early education in Albuquerque, later attending Maryville College in St. Louis. She returned to Albuquerque and graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1932. She lived in Santa Fe for almost 50 years, where she was active in many volunteer organizations. She returned to Albuquerque in 1996 to be closer to family. She is survived by four children, John B. Jr., and wife, Shirley of Bloomfield, William C. and wife, Ogi of Aurora, Colorado, Bob and wife, Barbara of Albuquerque, and Ellen Palmer and husband, Charles of Corrales; six grandchildren, Tom and wife, Maureen of Albuquerque, Dan and wife, Stephanie of Seattle, John of Aurora, Colorado, Kristen of Albuquerque, Michael Palmer of Burke, Virginia, Betsy Palmer of Dayton, Ohio, and a great-granddaughter, Erin. Rosary will be held Thursday, October 25, 2001, at 7:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Sandia, 7601 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM with Mass on Friday, October 26, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
