Torres -- Daniel "Danny" Gilbert Torres, 58, a resident of Albuquerque since 1982, died Wednesday, October 10, 2001, after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Anna L. Torres of Albuquerque; daughters, Jeannine Whiting and husband, Jeff , Dana Gonzales and husband, Martin, and Julie Torres and Lalo Sanchez, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Antoinette, Martin, Matthew, Alejandro, Heather, Anna, and Max; sister, Delia Ghiotto and husband, Robert of Rosemead, CA; brothers, Alex Torres and wife, Lucille and Robert Torres and wife, Teresa, all of Yuma, AZ; sisters, Mary Louise Escudero and Mary Helen Nunez, both of Sacramento, CA; brother, Gene Torres and wife, Mary Helen of Yuma, AZ; mother-in-law, Elizabeth McGinnis of Evansville, IN; sisters-in-law, Helen McGinnis and Marcia McGinnis, both of Evansville, IN; brother-in-law, Ronnie McGinnis and wife, Tina of Evansville, IN; nephew, Steven McGinnis of Evansville, IN; and other numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alejandro L. Torres and Jessie Castro Torres. Danny was born in Yuma, AZ. He graduated from Yuma Union High School in 1961. He entered the United States Army where he served in the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles in Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. It was there that he met his wife, Anna L. Yoder whom he married on February 26, 1966. After living in Yuma, AZ, Salt Lake City, UT, and Taos, NM, they settled in Albuquerque in 1994. He worked for Redwing Shoes. He had a great love for the Raiders and also John Wayne. He was a member of American Legion Post #49, LULAC, and St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Danny was a hard worker who always placed his family first. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Rosary will be recited Sunday, October 14, 2001, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. Interment will take place at Desert Lawn Memorial Park in Yuma, AZ. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to All Faiths Receiving Home, 1709 Moon St. NE, 87112.
