Wofford -- Keith Jeffrey Wofford, one of Santa Fe's"living treasures," peacefully passed from this life on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, in his home, attended by his family and friends. He was 90. Keith was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Letta Wofford, who died on Feb. 9, 2001. Keith was born May 2, 1910 in Paul's Valley, OK. He was the fourth of ten children born to farmers, Frank and Elizabeth Wofford. He first arrived in New Mexico in 1937, when he visited the mineral baths in Hot Springs, now Truth or Consequences, to relieve his chronic rheumatism. From Hot Springs, he moved north to Santa Fe, where he worked in the livestock business, buying and selling cattle. He lived in a house on lower Agua Fria Street, near what is now Airport Road, until he married Letta Gorbet in December 1941, shortly after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. Keith immediately volunteered for the draft. He was assigned to the U.S. Marine Corps and stationed in San Diego, where he moved with his new wife and three children. They returned to Santa Fe at the end of World War II, settling in the adobe home they shared for 54 of their 59 years of marriage. In 1994, Keith and Letta were named"Living Treasures" in recognition of their valuable and diverse contributions to the community. Keith was a long time member and past president of the now defunct Santa Fe Basin Water Users Association. Keith is survived by his brother, Carl Wofford and wife, Mildred of Santa Fe; sisters, Marjorie Peters of Camargo, OK, and Evelyn Bowman of Vici, OK; four children, Don Wofford and wife, Floy of CA, and children Sam, Sharon, Debbie, Donna and David. Barbara W. Douglas and husband, Bill of Albuquerque and children, Dianna Douglas and fiancé Tim Gallardo. Angela Jaramillo and husband, Jose, and stepson, Brian Berrey and wife, Kelley. Jim G. Wofford and wife, Georgia of Santa Fe and children, Laura Wofford and Jon Wofford Carlton. Sally Kellstedt Greenall and husband, Alan of Santa Fe; seven great-grandchildren, including five in Albuquerque: Maia and Bryce Wynn, Kalynn Jaramillo, and David and Meredith Berrey; nephews, Jim Wofford and wife, Sherry of Santa Fe, and Derek Anderson and wife, Pat of California; and niece, Ann Thompson of Big Spring, TX. A Memorial to celebrate the lives of Keith and Letta Wofford will be held Sunday, March 18, 2001 from 11a.m. to 1 p.m. at the La Fonda Hotel in downtown Santa Fe. .DMP
