Zimmerman -- Bobby Lewis Zimmerman, 74, a resident of Albuquerque since 1971, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2003, at home in the loving embrace of his family. He was happy and at peace when he left us, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Bob is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary; daughter, Cheryl Lynn Beecher and husband, Everett ¯Sonny¯ of Albuquerque; son, Robert Rory Zimmerman of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Cheri Lynn Zimmerman of Albuquerque; niece, Kathy Zimmerman of Virginia; and nephews, Eddie Zimmerman and Mark Zimmerman, both of Virginia. He was preceded in death by his brother, Tommy Zimmerman of Virginia. Bob was born in Bedford, VA and graduated from Bedford High School in 1946. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1949 and served with the 97th Signal Battalion in Germany until 1954 when he was honorably discharged. Returning to the States, Bob and his family settled in Northern California, and he began his career with GTE Lenkurt. In 1971, he was promoted and the family moved to Albuquerque, where GTE Lenkurt opened a new plant. Bob retired in 1986 after 31 years of service. He enjoyed retirement, pursuing various hobbies and interests that brought him pleasure. He was a lifelong fan of the San Francisco 49ers, and the San Francisco Giants. Bob was also a lifetime member of the N.R.A. and an avid hunter. Services will be held Monday, February 3, 2003, 10:00 a.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Academy Heights Ward, 1100 Montano NW. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robert Rory Zimmerman, Don Sampson, Murry Maxwell, Bobby Hopper, John Hopper, and Cheri Lynn Zimmerman. Honorary Pallbearers will be Everett ¯Sonny¯ Beecher, Terry Wilkinson and Gerald Robertson. Friends may visit the Academy Heights Ward, 1100 Montano NW, Relief Society Room, Monday, February 3, 2003, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. French Mortuary 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE 823-9400
