Salvo -- John B. Salvo, 71, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on March 16, 2003. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ann B. Salvo; five children, Anne Marie Salvo-Lujan and her husband, Clyde of Taylorsville KY, William A. Salvo and his wife, Mary Louise of Albuquerque, Robert B. Salvo and his wife, Judy of Horse Springs, NM, Rebecca J. Salvo-Jaramillo and her husband, Sam of Albuquerque and Susan D. Salvo-Wendt and her husband, Mark of Moriarty, NM; 14 grandchildren, Rebecca M. Vallejos and her husband, Juan, Julia M. Salvo, Robert Rubio, Michael Rubio, Christopher Rubio, Matthew Rubio and Bryan Rubio, Dominic R. Salvo, Dylan Salvo and his wife, Jessica, Johnny B. Salvo II, Benjamin J. Melendrez, Jeremy M. Melendrez, Kristian M. Chavez, BeAnna J. Chavez and her fiance, Aaron Mortensen; two great-grandchildren, Elijah S. Vallejos and Chad S. Mortensen; two brothers, Sam Salvo of Santa Fe and Bernard Salvo of Florida; two sisters, Delores Farquer and her husband, Alfred of Albuquerque and Anna Weybrew and her husband, Steve of Raton, NM; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents, Dominic and Maddalena Salvo; brother, Dominic (Babe) Salvo; sister, Lin Rieger; mother-in-law, Bee Badgett; and sister-in-law, Eleanor Salvo. John was born May 9, 1931 in Dawson, Colfax Co, NM where he achieved Eagle Scout in the BSA, excelled at athletics and music, and graduated from Dawson High School in 1949. He joined the Navy earning meritorious citation and was honorably discharged in 1950. Returning to New Mexico, John quarterbacked for and lettered with the Highland University Cowboys. Met and on August 17, 1952, married his sweetheart, Ann Badgett. After earning his Bachelor's Degree in education and student teaching at West Las Vegas, he taught and coached at Santa Rosa and Bloomfield leading numerous basketball and football teams to state finals and achieving two state titles. He was twice elected to coach in the annual North/South match up. He returned to Highlands University to earn his Masters Degree in education and Education Specialist in Administration followed by serving in administration at Tularosa and as Superintendent of Schools for 12 years at Moriarty. John served as Mayor of the city of Moriarty; served on the board of Central NM Electric Co-op and Rural Co-ops of NM; and was appointed Secretary of Commerce and Industry by Governor Bruce King. He owned and operated several business ventures during his lifetime. The Church Service will be held 3:00 p.m., Thursday, March 20, 2003 at Sombra Del Monte Christian Church, 2528 Utah Ave., NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110. A"Celebration of Life" Service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 20, 2003 at the John B. Salvo High School Gym, Moriarty, NM.
