Chavez -- Raymond Chavez 1952-2003Raymond"Ray" Chavez joined our Heavenly Lord on June 27, 2003. He died unexpectedly. Ray was a 1970 graduate of Belen High School. He went on to earn his bachelors degree in Civil Engineering at the University Of New Mexico. He was the Associate Director and Street Maintenance Division manager for the Public Works Department of the City Of Albuquerque, where he was well respected among his co-workers and staff. Ray believed in hard work and dedication in the workplace and was very well known for his fairness among employees. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Rosaline Trujillo Chavez; his two sons, Raymond Mark Chavez and wife, Melanie of Belen, Jon Paul Chavez of Albuquerque, and daughter, Sheryl Chavez-Caudill and husband, Kevin Caudill of Albuquerque. Ray has four loving grandchildren whom he deeply cherished: Emmanuel Mark, Izaiah Armond, and Kaeley Dahlia Marie Chavez and Shalyn Rae Caudill. He is also survived by brothers, Gilbert Chavez and wife, Rosie, Eloy Chavez and wife, Alice, Joe"Boy" Chavez and wife, Tillie, Orlando Chavez and wife, Viola, Reuben Chavez and wife, Cicilia, and sisters, Lydia Lopez and husband, Robert, Florence Ortega and husband, Anthony, Sally Alires and husband, Paul and Isabel Chavez; and his many loving nieces and nephews; and his mother-in-law, Jessie Trujillo He was preceded in death by his Mother and Father, Jesus and Albina Chavez, and sister, Eva Peralta and husband, Eloy Peralta, and his father-in-law, Dick Trujillo. Pallbearers will be his brothers, Gilbert, Eloy, Joe, Orlando and Reuben Chavez, and his brothers-in-law, Richard and Robert Trujillo. Honorary pallbearers will be his friends, Dan Tibbets and Andre Houle. Ray was a dedicated and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He lived his life to the fullest, doing things he loved like camping, traveling, and playing golf. He was extremely proud of his family and loved them with all his heart and soul. He accomplished so much in so little time and was looking forward to his retirement. He will be dearly missed and never forgotten! A viewing will be held on Monday, June 30th, starting at 5:30 p.m. with the rosary following at 6:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, July 1st at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church, celebrant will be Pastor Steve Schultz. Romero Funeral Home, 609 N. Main, Belen is in charge of arrangements.
