Romero -- Lionel R. Romero, 65, of Albuquerque, NM passed away due to illness on August 8, 2003. Lionel was born August 11, 1937, to Flavio and Delores Romero, in Albuquerque. Lionel attended Elementary, Jr. High and High School in Alb. He excelled in athletics at a very young age and was offered a major league baseball contract after high school, but deferred for a full athletic scholarship to the University of Arizona. At the University of Arizona, Lionel was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, and lettered in football and baseball; however, his athletic career was cut short due to injuries. Lionel transferred to George Washington University in Washington, D.C and graduated with a BS in Business Administration in 1962. Lionel was a successful Farmers Insurance Agent for 20 years, and the youngest recipient of the President Council's award. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Lionel will be remembered as a confidant, caring, fearless, humorous and above all, a very honest man. Survivors included his son Christopher Lionel, daughter-in-law, Jennifer, daughter, Elizabeth Barbara Grimsley, son-in-law, Wendell, grandson, Christopher Wendell Grimsley, brothers, Leonard and Paul of Arizona, former wife of 32 years, Barbara M.E. Romero, and many family and friends. A rosary and prayer service will be held on August 21, 2003 at 2:30 p.m. at Aspen Funeral Alternatives Chapel at 1935 Juan Tabo NE.
