Szurley -- Joseph W. Szurley, a Raytheon retiree, died at his home in Albuquerque, NM, on August 3, 2003 after a long illness. Joseph was born on October 22, 1915 in Lowell, MA, one of seven children of Francis and Honorata Kasza Szurley. Joseph was very proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps. during WWII. He married his beloved wife Rita Cote in August of 1941. Prior to retirement from Raytheon, Joseph spent his career as a woodworker and finish carpenter. Joseph was a very hardworking man and was very talented in his craft. His enjoyment came from creating and crafting things for his family, including building their home. Joseph was a member of St. Jude Thaddeus Church in Albuquerque, NM. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Joseph is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Rita, of the family home; his son, David and wife Mary Frances Szurley of Townsend, MA.; his daughter, Dale Unsworth and husband Fred of Albuquerque, NM; his sister, Mary Seymour of Lowell, MA; his five grandchildren, Jill Robichaud, Kristen Castro, Paul and Matthew Unsworth, and Jennifer Adcock; his nieces, Blanche Davidowicz, Theresa Ogonowski, Jacalyn Seymour; nephews, Chester Domoracki, Leonard Bernat, James and Peter Szurley, David Urban; and eight great-grandchildren. A Visitation for Joseph will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2003 from 4:00- 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Sunrise Funeral Options (Rio Rancho). Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Aug. 8, 2003 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Jude Thaddeus Church (5712 Paradise Blvd. NW) with Father John Conway as Celebrant. Interment will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 710 West 168th St., 3rd Floor, New York, NY 10032.
