ROBERSON -- Lucy T. Roberson, 86, died in her sleep on Saturday, August 30,2003 at the Loving Light Center Shelter Care home in Rio Rancho following a lengthy illness. Lucy was born in Fairfield, Alabama on June 9, 1917 to Bess and George Taylor. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Birmingham Southern College in 1937 and began her career as a teacher. She later achieved a Master's Degree from the University of New Mexico. Lucy taught 8th grade math at Monroe Junior High School in Albuquerque during the 1950's and 60's and then became the school counselor there. She retired from the Albuquerque Public Schools in the early 70's and Lucy and her husband Cecil moved to Rio Rancho. She will be remembered by many ex-students as one of their favorite teachers. Lucy and Cecil loved to travel together and did so often. They were part of the founding group of sponsors for the Teen-Age Tours and on several occasions traveled with Friendship Force. After retirement they enjoyed spending a month each Spring in Spain. She was preceded in death by both of her parents and both of her siblings, Sam Taylor and Marjorie Walker. Lucy is survived by her husband of 64 years, Cecil (Robby) T. Roberson, daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Milt Stelzer, and granddaughter and family, Lisa, Greg and Allison May, all of Rio Rancho. A Memorial Service for Lucy will be held at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 2701 The American Road SE, Rio Rancho on Friday, September 5, 2003 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Jeannine E. Lamb officiating.
