ROMERO -- Mary R. Romero, age 70, a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico for the past 46 years and a former resident of Las Vegas, New Mexico passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2003 at the Northeastern Regional Hospital following an extended illness. She was born in Las Vegas, New Mexico on January 6, 1933 to the late Felix and Teresita Baca. She was united in marriage to Ciferdo J. Romero on July 3, 1957 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, New Mexico. She retired from the St. Joseph's Hospital in Albuquerque where she was employed as Surgical Technician for 39 years. She enjoyed being with family and especially with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed cooking and sports. A lifelong Catholic, she was a member of St. Therese Church in Albuquerque, NM and also a member of Our Lady of Sorrows in Las Vegas, NM. She is preceded in death by her parents: Felix and Teresita Baca and brothers: Eduardo Baca, Pablo Baca and Fidel Baca. She is survived by her husband: Ciferdo J. Romero of the family home in Albuquerque ,NM; Sons: Mark J. Romero and wife Loretta and Michael J. Romero all of Alb.,NM, Daniel J. Romero and fiancee Merlinda Orozco of Las Vegas, NM; grandchildren: Marc Anthony Romero, Aaron A. Romero, Christen Marie Romero, Jacob C. Romero, Danyelle Romero and Sabrina Romero; Sisters: Pita Ortiz of El Paso; Julia Cruz and husband Pete of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Agatha Allen and Rita Suazo both of Las Vegas, NM; brothers: Teno Ortiz and wife Sue of Albuquerque, NM and Ron Lee Lucero of Santa Rosa, NM; brother-in-law: Victor Romero and wife Jane of Santa Fe, NM; sister-in-law: Maria Baca and husband Esua of Albuquerque, NM; niece raised as daughter: Bernice Lucero and husband Max of Ojitos Frios; nephew raised as son: Manuel Romero Jr. and wife Liz of California; numerous: nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends. Rosary devotional services will be conducted on Sunday evening at 7:00 at the Immaculate Conception Church. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday at 1:00pm at the Our Lady of Sorrows Church with Father C. John Brasher as celebrant. Interment will follow at the San Jose Cemetery with the following serving as casket bearers: Frank Baca, Louie Baca, Victor Baca, Albert Baca, Max Lucero and Arturo Quintana. Serving as honorary bearers will be all her grandchildren. She will lie in state at the Rogers Chapel on Sunday from 2:00pm to 5:00pm where family and friends may call.
